This was my first experience with Colombian food and I’m thinking it won’t be my last! My friend drove past this place and wanted to try it out so the hubs and I decided to tag along. We started our dinner off with plantains — patacones and tajadas. Patacones were more savory and crunchy, like a thick plantain chip that was served with a mojo sauce, kind of like a chimichurri and tajadas was more of a sweeter sliced plantain. Both were delicious! The hubs and I both ordered the Paisa Bandeja and our friend ordered the Arroz con Pollo. The Paisa Bandeja was a huge plate of a variety of things: plantains, chorizo, morcilla(blood sausage), beans, grilled beef, a slice of avocado, a plain arepa, rice topped with a fried egg, more sweet plaintains and a delicious hunk of chicharron! Everything was amazing except the plain arepa, I didn’t really care for it. My favorites on the plate were the beef which was kind of like a soft, beef jerky — the blood sausage which was full of herbs and rice — and the chicharron which was perfectly seasoned, perfectly crunchy and perfectly fatty. My friend was underwhelmed with his Arroz con Pollo but he loved what he tried on our plates. They also serve juices here where you have a choice of having them mix it with water or milk. We got the guava mixed with water and the passionfruit mixed with water both were really good! I’m wondering how much better it would’ve tasted mixed with milk! If you’re craving Colombian, wanting to try Colombian or just want a good hearty meal — come to El Balconcito and order a basket of chicharron while you wait for your meal!

We love, love, love!!! This Colombian restaurant and the amazing food! We had the steak plate — comes with the most perfect steak we ever had(large portion), rice, salad, and avocado slice. We also had empanadas with aji, and other great dishes. The natural soft drink made w milk was delicious! Can’t spell correctly, but will try… Guanabana. The bomb! I wished they would have had pan de bono or bunuelos. They have bunuelos, but we arrived at noon and they didn’t have any. I don’t think they have pan de bono but hope they sell them soon! Great location. Plan on returning next week again. Did I mention that the people there were very friendly and warm? They also had great customer service!!! Excellent place!!!

Had it for lunch today and contemplating it for dinner tonight… If you drove past it on the street you would think it was a Laundromat, but once you step inside you feel as though you are truly in your long lost Columbian grandma’s kitchen. One chef, one waitress, delicious food. In no other restaurant have I sat and had lunch with the chef who cooked my food. Everything is freshly prepared and the portions are HUGE. As a broke college student, I am always looking for the most out of my money. A meal that was $ 12 could have fed a family of 4(or one hungry college kid). Empanadas are superb. If you are anywhere close to the area and craving some seriously delicious food, COMEHERE!
