Apparently the management was worse than the service. This placed filed bankruptcy and has closed.

This is a front for an alien community. It turns out, some of my oldest friends are aliens! I can hear people laughing, yet they never smile. We are eating Mexican food, yet we have to listen hipster radio that turns off suspiciously. The people eating here are… shady. Something just doesn’t feel right. Things aren’t adding up. The food, they are trying too hard, especially the salsa. It’s not real. Nothing is real. Everything is nothing.

Decided to try our luck with a new place on a Saturday evening. The food was so-so as many reviewers have stated — trust me, you will have had better. The menu seems a little overpriced for the quality of food you get. The Anejo special(for two) is great. My son had the chicken fingers kid’s meal — GROSS. My three year old declined the chicken, ate some of his fries, but mostly ate off our Anejo platter. Also as other reviewers have mentioned, the décor is very stylish and hip. The patio looked very inviting. The band was just getting going when we were leaving. The patio was packed. The service was good. Our waitress checked on us multiple times and the manager could be seen making his rounds with customers. The ambiance and patio are the best things this place has going for it.

Time Attended: 6:00PM Time Spent: 1.25 hours Wait: None, but multiple groups dining. Attire: Nice; people ranged from t-shirts/khaki shorts to button downs and slacks. Return?: Probably CUSTOMERCARE: A– I’ve been here twice; the first time, the service was awful. Came very late at night and it took ages to get a margarita when they were not that crowded. The second time, this occurrence at dinner, I was pleased with the staff. The servers were friendly and the manager even came by to check on the tables. Only scoring down because A quality is very hard to find and Anejo doesn’t quite perfect it. CHARACTER: B Not a fan of the ambiance. The restroom was very nice, but the actual restaurant left much to be desired. Attempting the trendy look, the main eating area is rather bland and not that visually appealing. The waitstaff all dress somewhat casually and it’s rather boring. The saving grace is the patio, which is nice on a summer’s eve. At 6:30, the sun in North Texas was still blazing, so we opted for indoors. CUISINE: A When you come here, you essentially have to get the specialty. A family member and I got the Anejo Specialty for Two, which came with chicken and steak fajitas, rice, beans, bacon-wrapped shrimp(any bro will find paradise with these), and baby-back ribs. I don’t eat pork generally so the verdict is out on the ribs, but I had the bacon-wrapped shrimp and wagged my tail. The meat is very good and I was very satisfied at the end of the meal. Content with the chips and salsa as well, which wasn’t your standard bougie Mexican restaurant slapping glorified tomato paste in a saucer; it had a good deal of distinction. COST: B+ While there are more inexpensive options in that neighborhood, Anejo has a vibe that is generally more upscale. The price for the platter, 32.95, was WELL worth the money. Great date spot and even better for intimate family gatherings. Worth the price, but the drinks are more on par with prices in Uptown and more trendy neighborhoods. I’ll be returning most likely, but after I find a girl with as much of a fajita craving as myself.

As many others, I was lured in by their patio… this must be the best patio in Mid-Cities and was a smart way to set themselves apart from the million other tex-mex eateries. Cool firepit, awesome stage for live music and an outdoor covered bar area with tvs. Service was good… their salsa is delicious… flour tortillas were great as well… and they have a great tequila selection. Our shrimp fajitas were great… nice and spicy and we loved the added squash and zucchini. Rice is average, borracho beans were good. I had the sangria swirl margarita and it was yummy. Only downer I could see was the price points were a little high in comparison to the same dishes you get anywhere else… maybe they are burying a cover fee in there for the live music so they can pay the bands? All in all… we will be back before it gets too hot so we can enjoy their patio again! Great spot!

The best thing about Anejos is the $ 1.50 margaritas. They are no longer just a $ 1 and now only on Wednesdays so be sure to take note. Their food is just so so. I have eaten there a few times, and to be honest the food isn’t any better than what I could grab at a Taco Bueno. In fact, the only time I plan on MAYBE eating there again is on a Monday when they have $ 1 tacos. Maybe. What does them no favors, is the crappy service they’re quickly becoming known for. If it’s Wednesday and you’re craving a marg, hit up the patio at Anejos. Just be prepared to wait forever for your so-so food.

Stopped back in to Anejo House recently, nice weather and lots of people were outside so we ate in, where it was quieter. The hostess took a lil bit to get to the front, but she was worth the wait, hehe. The service was good our waiter was great and the salsa and chips were great I had the combo fajitas and Patricia had the Borracho tacos both our dinners were good and they had good tea in glass not plastic, will be back

The terrible service I received out ways the mediocre food at this place. It took me three hours to get in and out of there. Our chips, drinks, and salsa were never refilled and the waiter kept saying he was sorry and even asked if we were mad at him. Yes! This neglectful restaurant even made me wait to pay them. We sat at the table for half an hour to get out of there. I had to walk around the restaurant and find the manager to explain the situation. Not one thing was comped and didn’t even receive a sorry. Go to Gloria’s it is much better in service. In at 6 out at nine… There goes my Friday night.

This place is a conundrum. The place is called ‘house of tequilla’ but don’t drink the house tequila. Yes they are cheap($ 1.50 on Wednesdays) but margaritas are laced with so much high fructose corn syrup we were sick(and full) by the time our entrées came to the table(and I only had a few chips). Oh and the cheap tequila? Just know you get what you pay for. OK moving on, the service is just as bad as some reviews have already stated. Every person we came in contact with made at least 2 major service blunders, from the hostess, to the bartender, to the food runner to the waiter. It’s a laundry list of snafus that leads me to believe that the employees know that they can suck and get away with it. In actuality, the waiter wasn’t as bad as the staff surrounding him was, but still, he did make some mistakes on his own. So, this place has really cheap(and to me) sickening margaritas and bad service. Sounds like Taco Cabana right? Wrong! This place has incredible food and a good atmosphere. Hence the condundrum. The décor is great and very inviting. The music could use a bit of tweaking(a little too hard rock probably) but it’s nice not to have to hear Tejano music in a Mexican restaurant. Not that there’s anything wrong with Mexican music, it’s just so clichéd to hear it in a Mexican food restaurant that it made for a nice change of pace. Great crowd. And like I said, the food is awesome. From the salsa to the bacon wrapped shrimp, everything is really well made. The thing is, for $ 18 you get 6 shrimp(this is just an example). So the price points are high here(which has already been mentioned by other Unilocalers) and for the most part(like the drinks) you get what you pay for. The biggest problem is this: The average entrée price is $ 15, so let’s say you and a date don’t get the cheap drinks and have two rounds of decent margaritas and split an appetizer. Now you’re up to $ 80 at least. I would be hard pressed to shell out a $ 16 tip(20%) for the level of service that you receive. Of course I would do it, but I would not be happy about it. If I go back, I think I would have a few drinks before I arrive and come in expecting sub-par service. If I was already buzzed, that wouldn’t bother me so much. Nor would paying $ 10(on average) for a round or two of the good margaritas they have on their menu. I heard that they recently had a groupon out which means that things might be a bit hectic there for the next month or so, so I might wait until the dust settles from all that too. Then I would sit back, soak in the atmosphere, sip on a great margarita, not be in any hurry(or very hungry), and then eventually enjoy a great meal. There, now that’s a recipe for success! Heck, I can’t wait to go back and try my new plan out! Anyway, didn’t you really just want a rating for the place? Sorry for not getting to the point. I’d give the food and atmosphere a 4(almost a 5 for food) and a 2 for service which means a 3.3 average. If the prices were about 30% cheaper, this place would earn a 4. If they were 70% cheaper, it would earn a 5. But unfortunately(for Anejo) ratings are about value(at least mine are); and to be honest, a 3 is just about perfect for this place until they can get their service issues fixed(and a better house margarita).

Our second visit was much better than the first, the service was amazingly efficient and attentive, the food was better and actually has improved a great deal. Both my wife and I enjoyed our experience here. The tacos I ordered were full of meat and I actually had to take one of the three home as I filled up on the chips and their warm smokey salsa which is really good. The beans were very tasty the rice was plain but perfectly cooked and moist. The prices are a bit high but the food is pretty good and at least you get a decent portion for the price. I think if the price points were a little lower the meals would be much better… The patio in warm weather is a perfect. The bands area plus and the cocktails are the better value here.

Anejos is pretty good. I have been there a total of 3 times now in the last couple months. The nightlife atmosphere is fun with live bands. I love the interior of the actual restaurant, very cool! The food is actually done very well! The chips and salsa is wonderful. The only negative that I have had about it is the price. It definitely seems overpriced but works out in the end. My fiancé and I end up splitting a fajita platter for around $ 14 and it fills both of us up. I haven’t had any of their mixed drinks personally, I’m more of a beer guy. A definite negative is that they have ZERO beer on draft… kinda strange for a bar atmosphere but they have shiner in bottles and shiner keeps me happy :) I have had mixed experiences with the waiting staff there. The very first time we went we had an awesome waiter! He even brought us a huge to-go thing of chips and salsa without even asking! I wish I could say the same thing about my last visit. We had 2 guys both working out table at once. One was very abraisive and both were very unattentive.(They were quite busy, but still…) I liked it overall. Their rewards card program is pretty cool too. 1 point per $ you spend. double points on lunch and sundays I believe. But when you get 100 points you get a free $ 15 off next meal… not too shabby

After posting this negative review, the owner in all his awesomeness sent me a gift card and asked me to come again. I did, and unfortunately while the owner is a very cool guy, I simply cannot take back the negative things I said. If anything, there’s only more to complain about. The gist of what happened when I returned was: our waiter actually griped at us. We came in early for brunch and were delighted to see they had a new brunch menu that sounded amazing. So we ordered from it and ordered coffee. Our waiter’s first response was that he couldn’t find the cups. Strange, but ok. Ten minutes later and still no coffee, we asked a second time what was going on with it. He said now that they ran out of cups, because«We rarely have people order coffee.» as if insinuating that WE had the problem. Um… yeah, ok. I decided to order a mojito as we waited for coffee. It came and was poorly mixed and absolutely disgusting, but I drank it anyway because I was annoyed and alcohol sounded like a good idea, lol. Twenty minutes later… still no coffee, and this time the waiter says rudely«Well you already have a drink, do you really need the coffee? And like I told you, we ran out of cups.» At this point my guest and I were floored. We half laughed at the craziness of this rude guy and the situation, and half fumed at how ridiculous it was that a restaurant wants to serve brunch with only like 4 coffee cups available and then instead of apologize, make excuses and then get an attitude about it. We reported him to the female manager on duty, and she was very nice, but she didn’t comp us for drinks or anything. So at the end of the day, I’d wasted a gift card on a horrible experience with a rude waiter, no coffee, and a bad drink. That definitely sealed the deal: I will never come back until I find out their servers have learned service and their bartender has learned how to propely mix a drink. To their credit though, the food was pretty good. And again, the owner was very nice to offer me a free meal due to my first negative review. Also, I’ve always loved the upscale atmosphere. So, it is a shame all around that they still don’t have their act together.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOO overpriced. The food was mediocre and cold. They charge $ 2.00 for the smallest thing of sour cream. The waiter was rude and dismissive. It’s so loud and trendy, it just doesn’t fit with North Richland Hills. If the food was good, I’d go back, but it was horrible and expensive.

I came here for lunch today with some friends… I was tempted to try a margarita, but didn’t want to look like a lush! I’ll go back and give ‘em try! This place is pretty, and does have an uptown vibe that I didn’t expect. This was good because I suggested this restaurant and I think my friends were impressed when we walked in. It was all of our first time. Other Unilocalers have reported that the salsa is the roasted warm variety… I liked it. It had a nice flavor and spice; not overwhelming. The chips were fresh and warm. Our waiter was pretty good– he got some drinks mixed up, but that is hardly something to burn him at the stake for doing. I had the lunch special number 2: two cheese enchiladas with a red chili sauce covered in a HUGE amount of Cheddar(I think) cheese. The amount of oil that I could see oozing out of my food when it was plunked down in front of me was a little off putting. BUT, I ate it anyway!!! LOL Enchiladas were … cheesy. The rice was pretty typical and the beans were pretty tasty. I liked the beans the best! My friend who was sitting next to me ordered the steak street tacos and said the beef was really good and tender and the guacamole was pretty good. I’ll go back and give it another try, perhaps sit on the patio and enjoy a beverage or 3.

This is an update to my original review. Visited on a Saturday night for dinner and drinks. I ordered the beef fajita tacos and an ‘Anejo Rita’ rocks with no salt. The server did a good job of explaining the differences between their signature margaritas. I don’t typically order margaritas with anejo tequila but it actually tasted pretty good. I could tell they used fresh juice and it wasn’t too sweet which is very typical these days. The tacos were pretty good, the meat was tender and not over cooked and I liked the Guac and pico that came with it. After the food settled we ordered another round. This time we tried a premium silver milagro barrel select and it was also made very well with fresh juice and not too sweet. I would probably stop by a few times a month for drinks if I didn’t live so far away. Nevertheless, the margaritas are leaps and bounds ahead of where they were on my last visit.

Being a Tex-Mex junkie, I like Anejo overall, but there are some things I don’t like. Like: unique salsa — served warm with a smoky flavor; $ 1 margaritas on Mon, Tue & Wed — they’re not the best margarita but they’re $ 1!; banana leaf-wrapped tamales are out of this world. Not so much: rice and beans — bland and boring; guacamole with lettuce — lettuce almost ruins perfectly good guac. Service has always been inconsistent, hopefully this will improve over time. Patio is nice, and the high walls moderately block road noise.

Even though my girlfriend and I had a nice experience at Anejo, I can see why there are some unhappy Unilocalers as well. So picture this, it was a beautiful 60 – 65 degree afternoon, the sun was shining, there was a cool breeze from the east and two words were on our lips… PATIODINING. Since Anejo has what we were looking for, we decided to give them a shot for dinner. Upon entering the establishment we were greeted at the door by some polite hosts. «Looks like ya’ll are interested in sitting outside» they said as we were already scoping out where we were going to be sitting. As we were making our way outside, I took a glance at the dining area. It was nice, and though there were lots of people dining in there it just seemed empty(In a open art gallery, turned dining room kind of way). But the patio was awesome(cozy, but still fancy with it’s fire feature and outdoor bar). As we’re seated, they run over the specials with us… WAIT?, $ 1 house iced margaritas? Two please. As we wait on our chips/salsa and beverages, we start to realize that even though it’s a nice sunny 60 – 65 degree day in the sun, its a chilly 55 – 60 day in the shaded patio. Brrr… Someone realizes this as well and moves a heater close to us, tries to start it, realizes there is no propane in it and leaves. Skipping ahead. After snacking on the chips and salsa(which had no heat and a smoky flavor like La Hacienda Ranch’s salsa) we received our meals. (*Heater Update — even though several people have tried getting the heater to work at this point, it’s still not running). Wait… I thought La Pechuga Pablo had grilled chicken(not steak). Just look at the pic I posted, that can’t possibly be chicken, can it? –BTW, I just checked the online menu and yes it should have been chicken– I was a bit confused, but decided not to get picky and eat what I already had. Thankfully, the steak was pretty very good, and I also liked the beans(barracho I believe). But there were problems… The tortillas tasted great, but they were sticking to the paper so I had to peel the tortillas off of it. And the rice was severely over cooked(dried out and hard). I was a bit disappointed, but not too much since after just 2 $ 1 house margaritas(which tasted like a plain limeade) I was buzzing really good.(but I’m a bit of a lightweight when it comes to hard liquors like tequila) Anyhow, eventually a manager(I believe) came out and fixed the heater(it needed a new heating element). But we were almost done with our meal at this point so it didn’t really matter much(Though I did appreciate their efforts). So where does that leave me… well unsure. While some part of the experience was good to great(nice patio, good drink special, friendly staff), some were not(incorrect /overcooked food, troublesome equipment which created a chilly eating experience). It seems like the management reads these reviews(considering that they are running a promotion on Unilocal for people who write reviews) so I’d like to offer some advice. Please consider giving everyone at the table their own personal bowl of salsa. The salsa you offer is thin and doesn’t stay on the chip very well(causing lots of drips). I can see us possibly coming back one day(especially if we win the free dinner). But while I’m giving them the benefit of being fairly new(and the weather), this place still needs work before it can be a location I’d recommend.

My parents live less than 5 min from this restaurant and my mom and I spotted it on the way home from running errands, so we decided to give it a try on a Wednesday night. The place had been open about a week. There was four of us and we sat in a large booth inside, although the patio look awesome(too hot for me in the TX summer). The deco was great! Nice waiter, great chip and the salsa reminded me of Uncle Julio’s but less spicy, which my sister liked. My dad liked it so much he asked for his own bowl and it had to be refilled. The menu is smaller than many places, but it made it easier to make our choices. Dad had a combination plate, sister had the appetizer platter, I had the street tacos, and mom had a great chicken dish, with mushrooms, pablonos, and cheese(sorry my Spanish isn’t so good, can’t remember the name). All four dishes were very good. We went on a week night before 6:00 and the place was busy, but not packed. Looked to be a great bar inside and out. We will be back and I hope the do a great business cause there is not a place of this quality in NRH! We often go to southlake for TX-Mex
