This restaurant has great food, but customer service is really lacking. At my most recent(and last) visit we had empty drinks for nearly the entire meal.(reasonably priced iced tea $ 2.50 each) We saw the waitress one time during our hour long dinner. The menus describe a meal that is different from the one you will receive. While the food is very tasty, if you question why it is different from what is listed in the menu, like the vegetables not being anywhere to be found, you will be told that the vegetables are chopped onions in the rice. The truth is, Fort Wayne has great restaurants. If a restaurant wants to make it in this marketplace, they will have to do a far better job than Sapporo is doing at making customers happy. There are many outstanding restaurants less than 3 minutes away from Sapporo that offer a much better experience for about the same price. These include: Longhorn Asakusa Taste of India Agaves

Full disclosure… we went to Sapporo on a Saturday night for hibachi because we couldn’t get in to Takaoa. However I had high hopes for going to a new place and love hibachi. Well here goes. This goes to the manager of the Sapporo on Lima Rd. 1. Don’t take reservations if you can’t honor them. We were seated at least 20 minutes after our reservation time. 2. If you break glass on a hibachi table, move the group immediately. Don’t attempt to clean it up and think we won’t be cringing at the thought of biting into shards of glass. 3. If the chef takes 45 minutes to make it to the table and it is now over an hour past our reservation time before the cooking even begins, don’t tell us the solution is not to tip him. It isn’t his fault you can’t manage a restaurant. 4. Don’t throw your employees(poor Logan) under the bus. Take responsibility for the fact that you don’t know how to run a restaurant. 5. If you screw up, make it right. Do that in the form of dollars. My dad told me when you screw up it is a chance to show people that you care and create a positive experience out of a negative one. All in all, the food was amazing. But there are many places to get hibachi which the owner told us at the end of the night. She suggested we go there next instead of her restaurant. That says it all.

I’ll admit to being skeptical about Sapporo, but I was pleasantly surprised! I was really excited that they had jasmine tea. You don’t find that much at restaurants. Their clear soup was awesome, really flavorful. The veggie tempera was just OK. Kinda bland. But that was really the only disappointing part. I had the crazy roll as my entrée and it was delicious. I could have eaten 10 more. My husband had their sashimi(which I stole some of) and it was also super delicious! Our 4 year old had the kid’s hibachi steak and actually ate her dinner for once. So that’s saying a lot. We will definitely return!

Sushi is good, but the best part about it is its’ atmosphere. Love to come here with friends and just chat all evening long. One of my favorite sushi places

Man I love their sushi! It is my absolute favorite in our area and we have alot of sushi restaurants in the area. Everytime we go there to eat we have the best service and the food is very consistent with a nice selection of different types of sushi to choose from… check them out

It was good but takaoko is way better especially for same cost. I would recommend for lunch(priced a little better).

Stopped in for a late lunch. I really enjoyed their house dressing. Excellent sushi, great fried rice and the steak bento is a delight I will definitely be eating here again.

Perfect restaurant for family. My kids loved the show and the food. Adults had free time while the fish pond kept three kids busy. Will definitely visit again

Tonight was our first time here. Being from southern California, we know really good and fresh sushi and sashimi. We’ve been to one other place in ft Wayne and it was nothing to be excited about. The food here was amazingly delicious! The salmon sashimi was so fresh! The tuna sashimi was the best I’ve had in such a long time. We were actually planning on going to the sushi bar in the same parking lot and the wait there was 45 min so we decided to walk over to here and it was the best decision! It was not that busy when we got there and toward the end of our visit it got busier and the waitress apologized for the wait and we told her to not even worry about it because we still got our food promptly. We will be back!

Well, how can I say, everything is perfect, except the food is too salty. Too much soy sauce and terriyaki sauce.

We had a large party with 2 toddlers and a wheelchair. Our service was fast and efficient. When I(and he) couldn’t identify something on my vegetarian sushi platter; he had someone there who could right away! Everyone said their food was WONDERFUL. The presentation is very pretty. Not only were the rolls themselves good, but the accompanying sauce/dips of wasabi, pickled ginger, were phenomenal. I appreciated that we were not«encouraged» to leave as you are at some places at the end of the meal. We were able to sit for a few minutes and enjoy the company. Will definitely return!

One word: Delish! Better than Koto. On par with Takaoka. Both my sis and I had hibachi steak and shrimp. Steak was cooked perfectly. Fried rice was super flavorful. Soup and salad was on par with all other Japanese restaurants. I thought shrimp had a slight fishy aftertaste but sis said hers was perfect(mind you that her palate isn’t as sensitive to those kinds of things, lol). Less expensive than Takaoka. About $ 14 for meal and a soda during lunch. Ambiance was fab. Great place for a date: low lights. Dark woods. Spacious. Option for hibachi or regular service. Will visit again and you should too!

Sushi were pretty good, seaweed salad the worst one I have tried ever. Do not order it. We had a waiter Brad(blonde guy wearing glasses) and he was the most rude waiter we have ever experienced. Asking if we want change, asking us to review the bill as «he was not sure it is correct», asking if we want food boxes while we were still working on our food, mixing our orders and so on. Awful experience, left restaurant shocked of how bad the customer service was.

We tried Sapporo for the second time tonight. I tried the hibachi chicken, it was okay, not as good as Takaoka or Koto. It comes with a ginger sauce as well as a mustard sauce. I asked for the yum-yum sauce and they did bring some to the table. Even the yum-yum sauce is not as good as it is at Takaoko or Koto. My husband got the steak yakisoba, the noodles were under cooked. The soup smelled wonderful, however when tasted, it seemed to have fried onion pieces in it? The dressing on the salad, seems more creamy/mayo than ginger. The one thing I did try and enjoyed was the Crunch Munch Roll. It was very good! If we do go back I think I will stick with the roll next time and maybe try the Colts Roll.

It would have been a five without the waitress mishap(kind of funny). Decent décor and they are going to put the place next door out of business. So, we’re seated near the sushi bar with two of my coworker type peeps. Waitress came over and got us setup with drinks and menus. When she returns, my friend asks, «What’s shumai?»… waitress stumbles a bit with that one so I step in and provide the real explanation. She follows up with«What’s Gyoza?»… again, Houston we have a Problem. I retort, «think peking ravioli». So we get our orders in and I ask to start with Tako Su. Do you have Uni… Yes… WHOHOOOOO!!! I’ll have four pieces of Uni Nigiri and then a selection of three or four sahimi’s that the chef chooses. Sounds pretty straight forward, right? I should have been a bit nervous when my peeps got their apps and nothing came for me. Two minutes later she shows up with two pieces of nigiri tako… hmmm… She must have thought Tako Su was some chick that works on the Mexican place on Lima. Super nice waitress so I stuck with the mistake. Next comes my plate of fish yumminess™. The uni is served sashimi, it’s got an ama ebi served nigiri and two other sashimi cuts. hmm… someone needs to take some training to work in a Japanese establishment. Did I mention she was cute? Now I know how she was hired. Again, she was super nice so I stuck with it. Finished by asking for two pieces of Uni sushi… a n d I s p o k e v e r y s l o w l y. Here’s the 911 on the food. Uni was rockin and as good as anything I have had — ever. A bit of a sweet flavor with perfect consistency. Ama Ebi is something that I rarely order(bwahahahaha, just came up with that one) and was equally great. The quality of the offering here is without peer in Ft. Wayne. Add some training for the staff and they blow this town away.
