I have been visiting this park since 2005, initially came here for a group camping trip in the hot summer, but I have been coming back here for the waterfall season to visit the 4 waterfalls, Lodge Falls, Indian Falls, Laurel Falls and Lost Falls, we usually start the trail next to the lodge parking lot to Lodge falls, then to Indian Falls, then the loop trail to Laurel falls, and the halfway point at Lost Falls where we need to cross a creek(just above the falls) and head back. There are many giant rock formation common to the«Cumberland Plateau», it’s like a maze of giant rocks, during the spring time, the board walk is pretty surrounded by various wildflowers. I need to thank whom ever decided to paint pumpkin as one of the trail blaze, we often play«find the pumpkin game» hahaha I’m looking forward to coming back in late January for the Winter hikes, love to see the falls frozen, and then mid-March for the wildflowers. PS: I know some of you are reviewing the state park restaurant, I think we should be reviewing them separately, please look for«The Mountain Inn Restaurant» on Unilocal in Fort Payne, AL

We have been visiting this area for more than fifteen years. We always stay in the hotel at the State Park. The only sad point is the restaurant, which is why I can’t give it more stars. There have been many turnovers in the restaurant management, and lunch and dinner have always been a challenge(to eat). Breakfast, whether it is a la carte during the week, or the breakfast buffet on the weekends is consistently good. Try the pancakes. While I realize that it is difficult to procure top-quality fare on the budget that is likely provided by the state park budget, I keep hoping they will realize the missed opportunity to provide a 5-star experience, as every single thing about this park is top-notch, except the dining experience… too bad, but thank goodness there are other, better dining opportunities(although we joke that you may starve on Mondays, as all restaurants on the mountain are closed).

You really should try DeSoto. A great place to relax and enjoy nature. We love the broiled flounder and trout.

if you find yourself up here amongst the sweeping tranquil views, stop in the restaurant if your tummy’s grumbling. just avoid the gumbo. better yet, head into nearby mentone, alabama– there are better dining options there, if they’re open.

Been eating here for years whenever I have guests in town. They have a buffet that is pretty good. Convenient to have the lodge right there and some gorgeous scenery/sites right there. The back deck overlooks a waterfall.
