We have bought many things from Akins and have been well satisfied! Great low prices!

If you want to spend a LOT of money, this is the place for you. Outrageous prices on EVERYTHING. No one welcomed me as I came in, or as I walked around for a good hour. or even as i left. I found so much better at some place in rainsville. Barter post trading store. If you need anything they have awesome stuff. they are the most affordable around that I’ve seen. I will NOT be returning to akins

You better turn around and walk away. They lure with the price and dump on you with low quality furniture and service. This happened to me several years ago and they might think I’ve forgotten about it. They brought me a china cabinet with cracked mirror, forgot my ottoman, cracked granite for my Buffett, the leaf didn’t fit the table, and the first table they brought looked as if a hatchet had been used on it. Then to add insult to injury, the old man Akin actually called me up and started raging on me and said«we can’t seem to make you happy Mr Brewer». I don’t intend to stop warning people. Advice: always let them deliver. If you rent a truck and then your furniture is damaged, your stuck. Pay half until delivery and keep your receipt. They cannot come into your house and take furniture if you have the receipt. email me at for pictures!

Last year my husband and I decided to replace some of our hand-me down, mis-matched, newlywed furniture with what we would like to call our own. Our families had purchased here from the past and I even remember going here as a child with my parents who were looking for a recliner. We thought we would just take the drive just to see if they had anything agreeable and then visit a few more stores before making a decision. It is «way out in the middle of nowhere» as we like to say in the south, even though 87% of Alabama seems to be «in the middle of nowhere». After the long drive you’ll finally make your way up the mountain on the road that will lead you to the store’s parking lot. The views are beautiful on this road by the way. The parking lot is crowded. The store front looks unappealing. But let me tell you, this place is just awesome. When you walk in you’ll be greeted by an enthusiastic salesperson(aren’t they all) who will explain the layout of the store. If you’re looking for something specific you better take notes, if you want to just wander take their advice on always following the«yellow road» to find your way back home. The layout of the store is crazy! There is furniture stuffed everywhere. The building which has been built on a little at a time is a maze of linking rooms. It isn’t fancy, there aren’t beautifully assembled ‘mock’ rooms to inspire your idea of home. The furniture is there, the ‘sets’ will be together, but they won’t be perfectly arranged. The salesperson will describe the«theme» of each room you’ll enter but it’s hard to remember. Some rooms may be for certain brands, some may be for a certain type of furniture, my advice is to just take your time and don’t let yourself get overwhelmed. They aren’t kidding about the yellow road either, the walkway which is a faded, scuffed up yellow will lead you all the way around the maze eventually bringing you back to start. The salesperson, who is helping several customers at a time, will give you a brochure to write down your interests on, tell you their name, and then leave you alone. At anytime if you need help then you can just holler like a good ol southerner or find another salesperson to page them to your location. We instantly found a bedroom set that we both agreed on and our salesperson helped us list the pieces that we were interested in and then explained the price and discounts. We decided to agree on purchasing this here without visiting other stores for a final decision. We had a little more difficulty agreeing on a living room suit. Obviously we had different ideas on the importance of either comfort or appearance, be surprised I was the one voting for pure comfort. We spent a good amount of time sitting in the different couches and chairs, finally agreeing on at least getting a couch that reclined as well. A visit from our salesperson helped work out some issues that we had with fabric and brand selections. We decided to go ahead and get the living room suit as well. FYI: They pretty much want you to either pay cash or finance the furniture so they will upcharge if you want to charge to a credit card. The tax rate here is only 4% and they will deliver. They have a scale for determining the amount for delivery. We opted for delivery since we were not prepared to haul both a bedroom and living room suit. Tax and delivery combined for us came to 10% which is the same that the tax rate alone would be at other stores. So no, we may not have gotten the best deal because we didn’t shop around but the selection and service are great here and you can’t beat only 4% tax. If you can haul away your purchases on your own then you might be able to beat the cost from another store.
