BLUF: Salt. Way too much salt with a rather plain side of BBQ. Went to Barnstormers the other day for a quick dinner with some friends. I went with their ½ chicken, leg and thigh, with chili and their cucumber/tomato salad. The chicken meat itself was rather tender but the seasoning was extremely salty. The BBQ tinge the skin was supposed to have was more of a pitch black brunt. The sides were far worse. The chili was extremely salty with too much spice in it and the salad tasted like vegetables soaked in vinegar and rubbed with salt. I ordered a side of dirty rice to balance out the meal but it was to no avail. Overall, not returning unless I’m feeling a sodium deficiency.

We got meat combo with ribs, brisket and sausages with fries, and mac and cheese. Fries were not crunchy and ribs were dry. Brisket and sausages were good, and mac and cheese was average.

Full disclosure alert: I was super hungry to beginwith. Now with that said, we really enjoyed this place. The owner came by and greeted us several times, I wish our waitress would’ve done more of that as our drinks were running dry(free refill on soft drinks). The Beef Brisket that I had was delish, fries were too salty or it could’ve been just me. Coleslaw was outstanding. On my lovely date’s plate sge had thw ¼ chicken. She tore that up pretty quickly but her«dirty rice» went untouched, I tasted it and understood why. She obliterated the baked potato. Our friends split a plate of 3 items; ribs, beef brisket and kielbalsa… forgot their sides but the pretty much finished it all… Overall this place was good and needs very little to be great. My Love and I will return for sure.

Stopped in for a late lunch after a trip back from Haverstraw today. I remembered this place when it used to be in Newburgh NY about 8yrs ago.(It was better then) Well can say the portions were small I had the pulled pork saturated with sauce,(says piled high) cole slaw and tomatoe, cucumber salad that was horrible(should have been oregano salad) I never can eat a whole meal for lunch — there was nothing here to bring home. My husband had a chicken leg, very little meat on it, greasy, fatty brisket also the cucumber salad and chili. Today was a very rainy damp day and the place was cold. The heat had to have been turned off(which made me want to leave after being seated) The waitress Amy was great, a very friendly person — this was the best part of stopping in. I won’t be going back. :(

While up in Bear Mountain we found this spot. No complaints from us, the food was yum, prices were decent, and staff was friendly. We will be back.

I like BBQ food so I took a chance with this place. Came here for dinner with my family and we loved it! The waitress was very nice and friendly. The ribs fell off the bone, yes Lord! The cornbread was moist and not dry like some tend to be. The chicken fingers were a delight too!

I’ve had a lot of good times having some pretty good BBQ here when I was a cadet. The food is on point as well as the kind staff serving your food. If your looking for a BBQ place in highland falls this is the joint to stop at.

I traveling here from my home in Port Jervis because I had actually met the owner at a grand opening of another restaurant. BBQ is one of my favorite things to eat and when I’m craving it I actually travel to NYC. So on my day off my friend and I took the ride with empty bellies. I guess I should’ve taken heed of the near empty parking lot on a Saturday but like I said. I love BBQ and I came to eat. Started with chili nachos… Very frat house. chili is decent firehouse style chili and honestly it saved the dish. Dull, cheap cheese & salsa. Decided to share the Pig Out Platter because we wanted to try a little bit of everything… with the exception of chicken. We double the rib portion and omitted the chicken. Asked for fries and coleslaw for sides… got fries and more chili. Didn’t mention it. The ribs… Uh so disappointed. They just seemed tired. like a day or two old and reheated. I happen to like my ribs wet but the reality is you could barely choke this down without dousing it in sauce. The brisket… I had to study the plate and poke into this pile of what really looked like canned dog food. to discerne between the brisket and the pulled pork. which there was really just a slight color difference hardly a taste difference? Everything was kind of a metallic, sour ketchup/vinegar taste. Bummed me out. The kielbasa… Finally, something juicy and delicious! The fries. I’m sure when they’re fresh they’re tasty. Unfortunately the pile on our plate seemed like«bottom of the barrel» lots of dry, spindly end pieces. Cornbread…forgettable. Left sad and hungry :(

Bug in water(see photo). Bartender was our server. As soon as the bar got busy for Friday night, he was MIA. Couldn’t bite through the chicken it was so over cooked. Out of stock wings. Other food tasted, generally, okay. Had it not been for the tough chicken, the out of stock wings, the bug in my water, and the blah service; I would have given 3 stars.

BESTJUICIESTBURGEREVER! Their bacon is succulent & their ribs fall off the bone good. Their cornbread is the best I’ve ever had. They have cheesy grits that are amazing! STRAIGHTUPBESTBBQYOUCOULDHAVEINTHEAREA! WOULDNOTREGRET! Their stuffed baked potato is amazing. I’m running out of adjectives to describe how great their food is. My friend & I came after a hike & it was well worth it

I ride my Motorcycle in this area constantly, and I often ride past this place. It often has bikes parked out front, and usually is jamming. This Saturday, my gf and I decided to stop in and eat for the first time. OK, it’s a little«divey», outside and in. You expect the French Laundry in the middle of nowhere? It’s classic roadside BBQ, decorated with some cool old tin signs, and some WW1 Biplane pictures. It’s cute. It was well after lunch, and the place was fairly busy, but not crowded. The waitress gave us a table right off, and was great through the whole meal. Friendly, fast. Both of us ordered the house salad with an addition of pulled pork. Now, this far out of the city, I was expecting a pile of iceberg lettuce, but I was pleasantly surprised! A beautiful bed of mixed field greens, some cuke, tomatoes, and some onion. The dressing was good, and the pulled pork was great! As we were leaving, the table next to ours got their order… Some sort of grilled shrimp dish. Looked and smelled amazing. I know what I’m ordering next time! My only knock on the place is the parking situation. Not much they can do there, but it’s a bit tough if you have a heavy bike. The lot is angled oddly, and there is a lip to get out to the street. Overall? A great little roadside diner, serving solid BBQ and better than expected salad. Fast, friendly staff, prices are good. For what it is, 4 solid stars!

Polite and efficient service at Barnstormer BBQ. Free refills on soda($ 2.75). Full spare ribs are available Memphis dry or Kansas wet. They can be ordered in ¼, ½, ¾ and full rack($ 19.95) either as just ribs including two sides or part of combos that use kielbasa, chicken, brisket or pulled pork and top out at $ 22 for multiples of meat. ½ rack of ribs are also available as an appetizer for $ 13 with no sides. Appetizers include chili and peel and eat shrimp as well as chicken wings. The jumbo BBQ chicken wings($ 10) for a dozen are indeed jumbo — plump and moist. BBQ? Not so much — definitely fried and then finished on an open flame to give them the essence of charcoal. Available in mild, medium, hot and super hot, the medium was barely noticeable and generally lacked any flavor. Other than the charcoal. These wings were better when doused in the BBQ sauce that was provided to add to the ribs. The ribs, The ribs. A 1pm Saturday visit would have hoped for a better showing but unfortunately, not this day. Although a decent sized portion, these uncut ribs were clearly not made today and as such could be discerned before they ever reached the table. The meat had settled to a flat volume from the section of what should have been the thickest and juiciest part of the rack. Very little evidence of the requested Kansas City treatment was visible on the exterior. While obviously rubbed, the rub/bark came away in chunks as the ribs were sliced into individual pieces. A dull, light grey interior was completely devoid of juices. Zero smoke flavor was not helped by the lack of gusto in the rub itself. The meat held together relatively well although the tip section easily separated from the rest of the rub and was also dry. Downright bad were these specimens. So bad in fact that we only ate three of the six that were served. It is possible that the large tour party that was served directly before us received all of that day’s fresh prepared ribs, but a quick observation of the table uncovered that maybe amongst the 15 of them, two racks total had been ordered. Unfortunately, this guy won’t be going out of his way to visit this BBQ joint.

The food for the most part was very good. My sons ribs were a bit over cooked(some parts too hard). My brisket sandwich was very good and my husband liked his chicken sandwich. Fries were really yummy. The waitress was not very cheery, and the place was not busy. Maybe that’s why. We did go at an odd hour. Late lunch. Anyway, would try again if in the area.

Let me establish that I am spoiled, living here in Nashville and having been to Memphis. The BBQ here is just okay at best. Expect to be disappointed if you are picky about your BBQ. The flavors are all off on the meat products. The sauces aren’t anything spicy and the chili is blah at best(some j/v firehouse stuff). The place is however clean, has great service, and one of the few legit eating places(not divy) in the area.

Rode my motorcycle up to Fort Montgomery on my way to ride Bear Mountain, decided not to go for a franchise meal for lunch and thought of this place. Service was good, not expecting a red carpet just a damn good pulled pork sandwich with some sweet potato fries and a hot cup of tea. That’s exactly what i ended up getting. Server was nice and chatted for a bit even though it was busy. Definitely worth the trip. Deserves four stars for sure since it was my first visit and didn’t have much if a meal to show for. You won’t leave unsatisfied if you stop for a meal here though. Would definitely stop by again and try something else on the menu.

First time visitor. Decided to stop in and see what it is like. Simply place inside. Green and white table clothes. I like the roll of paper towels on each table. I get that. BBQ sauce can always use paper towels. However good BBQ sauce is always finger licking good. Light easy listening music softly in the air. And a good aroma breezing by my nose in the air. Hope it taste as good as it smell. I got the BBQ chicken & swiss with baked beans and salad. The chicken sandwich was cooked perfectly. Juicy, thick and very tasty. No good BBQ establishment can survive without tasty baked beans. And the beans here hit the spot. Very impressed. I got a hug treat out of the cucumber and tomato salad was very good. The dressing they use its very good. Only complaint if wish to call it one. Is the sprite was flat. But the water was fine in the end. If in this area again. I can see myself returning to this reasonably priced place.

Excellent BBQ along Highway 9 in whatever town I am currently in. We were traveling back to NYC from a trip upstate and were getting rather hungry. Saw this place along the road — Unilocal said it was good — so we decided to give it a try. So glad we did. I had a ¼ stack of ribs done Carolina dry style. Came with a side of Mac and cheese and fries. My god! So damn good. Ribs were done just right — not sweet which is a must for me. Mac n cheese was amazing as well — and the fries … I want the recipe for those fries. So yes, if you are traveling along Route 9 and are near this place, do yourself a favor and stop in. You won’t be disappointed and more importantly, you definitely won’t leave hungry!
