The instructors here are amazing! Yes, karate is expensive but they make it worth every penny! After my training, I feel confident that I could defend myself if necessary.

I have seen children and adults who’s lives have been adjusted in awesome ways from the loving care and life saving lessons they have been taught at Kenaki Karate by the Grand Master Dr. Shihan White and all of the amazing senseis. The discipline, respect, and self esteem that is garnered by the students is priceless. I have recently begun Karate lessons as a senior citizen and feel it is one of the best decisions I have made. Any parent with a child –or possibly yourself — that may have discipline, self worth, bullying or other issues would do well to look into enrolling at Kenaki — it will truly make a huge difference in your life and theirs. It is great fun as well — Kenaki Karate is a wonderful«family atmosphere!» Do they challenge a person to step up and do better. Absolutely! When people are matched with stronger people or higher belt rank it is only done to encourage one to try harder. The instructors make sure there is control. In the outside world if someone is attacked, the attacker is most likely to be bigger or stronger than the victim. How valuable would be the ability to successfully fight back? As far as the size of the instructors — as some have mentioned — if they truly know their craft why should size or sex matter. You have no idea what their situation is. I can tell you that, at Kenaki, all belts are earned, not simply given. They can also be rescinded if the student’s activity both in the dojo, as well as, outside of the studio isn’t befitting the belt rank. Karate is learning self defense. What price can you put on your life, or the life of someone you love? Have you watched the news lately? Is there ever a day when you don’t hear of some one being attacked?

I found this place to be quite the money-pit. On top of the $ 100 plus per month fee, they charged for belts. Then, they pushed you hard to pay for individual training classes, inferring that it could be the difference between getting a belt or not. I also wasn’t a fan of the Shihan running the place, Kenneth White. He only showed us attention at the sign-up session. After that, not much at all. He also seemed to take some pleasure in mismatching some of the kids in sparring. White belts vs red belts, for instance/. Ooohing and ahhing when the predictable happened, laughing about it. They definitely had their favorites and it showed. We left right after this. Several of the instructors were badly out of shape and did not seem to follow the principals they preached about nutrition and taking care of your body. I also think they were doing a disservice by awarding ten-year old kids a black belt, in my opinion. The one bright spot was Sensei Chopper. He was fantastic with the kids and treated us with respect.
