If I could give it less stars based on the service, I would definitely. We arrived in the restaurant at about 930 on Friday night. When we set down the bartender rushed over to tell us that the kitchen was closed. Even though the website States that they close at 10:00PM. We left and found food elsewhere. Upon returning I pointed it out to the bartender at which point he argued with me that the kitchen staff decided to close early. I have no comment on how the food tastes as I was unable to order. I was surprised at the lack of customer service. Would not recommend anyone to eat at this place.

Way too much dressing on an entrée salad — you couldn’t see the color of the lettuce there was so much dressing. The chicken on top tasted good, and the salad would have otherwise been great had they not dumped a gallon of dressing on it. Stick with the beef.

Nice relaxed place. I had the mushroom Swiss burger and bacon cheese burger. Both were great! I especially enjoyed the jalapeño corn.

Great food, service and drinks! We went with a group of 8 And never had to ask for more drinks, everyone’s food was wonderful and the waitress(Jodi), has great personality.

The best meal in Ft Madison. The bar is stocked with a wide variety of local, standard and craft beers. The menu is big but not overwhelming and will not break the bank. If you’re in town on a Wednesday or a Thursday the smoked brisket is well worth it. The jalapeño creamed corn was an excellent side. Great service, great everything !

Stopped in for lunch during swing through Iowa on business. If you love restaurants and bars in old buildings, I do, you’ll love this décor. Tried Waygu beef appetizer. More of a money maker than spectacular though it was good. Food was middle of the road. Good but nothing that I would rave about. Some locals came in for a group business lunch while we were there. Unfortunately the power went out while we were eating. It impacted several businesses in the area not just this building. Based on that I suspect it is normally a good group eating place. Only complaint is when my associate and I paid our credit cards were switched and I ended up with his card which we did not catch. Unbeknownst to him he paid for meals on the rest of my trip home. Then had to mail credit cards back to respective owners. Bit of a pain.

When The Atlas first opened, I was not too impressed. However, with a new manager and new waitresses/waiters, they have made good improvements. I enjoy the atmosphere here and frequent often.

As far as Iowa restaurants go, this one is pretty good. Their brisket is amazing and melts in your mouth! We go back just for that dish.(Note it is only served on Wed & Thurs.) Their loaded potato soup is a meal in itself. Delish. They have a good wine list and I love the extra large wine glasses. The service has always been friendly. I would give it more stars but there is room for improvement: the LED lighting casts a strange bluish tint on the place. This could be improved by at least putting candles on the table. And what could be an inviting upscale feeling is overshadowed not just by the lack of aesthetic lighting but by the numerous TVs mounted on the walls. Do we really need to watch TV while eating our high-end wagyu steak? Atlas could also stand to be more consistent in its food. The first few times we were served generous portions of brisket and well worth the $ 18 price. The last time the portion was HALF the size and I left feeling slighted. The potato soup was lacking in the«loaded» part and was not hot. And my salad… the first 2 times it was leafy green lettuce. This last time it was iceberg lettuce and overpowered by red onion slices and croutons. Bummer. What happened, Atlas?! We will go back again, but I hope this place isn’t going to disappoint next time.

This place is known for the Waygu beef. We got this for the appetizer and it was indeed delicious($ 13 for a tiny bit but delicious). The catfish with the lump crabmeat was amazing. I ordered the yellowfin tuna in wine sauce, however I ordered it rare and it came waaayy overcooked. The side of asparagus just tasted like salt. On the bright side, the service was very good and the atmosphere was nice.

Ate here tonight. The restaurant is solid, if unspectacular. Décor is typical sports bar, nothing memorable one way or the other. Started with a bacon appetizer because hey, bacon. The bacon was smokey and good, but lacking any memorable quality. Next was loaded baked potato soup. Solid flavor profile, but cold. Main dish was a 14 oz. ribeye. It was undercooked(though not criminally so) and lacking salt. Not terrible, but when I pay $ 28 for a steak, I expect slightly more. The service was friendly and professional. A definite plus. This is not a meal I enjoyed much nor did I not enjoy it. It was average.

I had the steak sandwich and my wife had the patty melt. My wife said the sandwich was just OK. She ordered it well done and it came medium. My steak sandwich was more bread than meat and not very much flavor. The server was very nice but not very attentive. We had the desert of cheesecake and it was average at best.

Excellent access. Loaded potato soup excellent. Waghu steaks very good, thin 12 oz ribeye, excellent seasoning, reasonable wine and excellent beer selection, superb service on a busy Saturday night. Going there for lunch with large family group. I grew up here, left after High School at Aquinas in 1960. Great memories.

From food to service – outstanding. Overheard a customer with a concern and the problem was served immediately. Owner was floating about, he seemed very hands on in wanting everyone to have a good experience. Definitely worth the effort to find it AND if u r looking for a hotel room too – The Kingsley Inn next door is so quaint and a gem.

My dad an I are staying in Ft. Madison for just a few nights and were struggling to find good food. After a few failed attempts we walked into Atlas(it can be hard to see from the street but it’s there!). I ordered the steak salad and the steak was so good on it that my dad said we had to come back tonight and order the steak. This place is truly a hidden treasure. Some of the best food I’ve ever had. I’m not generally one to give five star reviews and I never expected to give one outside of a big city but Atlas has more than earned it. As my dad said«I might come to Fort Madison again just to eat at Atlas» and that it was some of the best food he’s ever had.

Terrible, terrible, terrible food. From appetizer, soup to entrees, no redeeming qualities whatsoever! And why does everything taste burnt? Trust me, worst restaurant I’ve ever been to!

Liked it so much, we went back the next day. I ordered the wagyu burger again. It’s local beef, and the duck-fat truffle-salt fries are fantastic. My wife was enthusiastic as well.

Wagyu burger for lunch for $ 9… Hard to beat that. I had half for lunch(added smoked cheddar and some incredible bacon from this appetizer my table shared) and was excited to eat the other half for dinner. BBQ sauce is a brown sugar concoction by Stumps… I could probably drink that, yum! The fries were rather perfect as well; just the right amount of crispy and flavor. They didn’t even need sauce that’s how good they were. Service was a bit wonky, maybe she was new and still needs to work the kinks out. Good food makes up for that though. Likely to return and explore the rest of the menu if not order an entire platter of bacon for myself. (Update: have been back multiple times for dinner and happy hour and game watching. During HH they have $ 1 off draught beer and $ 2 off appetizers. They also do a flight of beer samples that is a pretty good deal, too. We keep going back for the steak salad and wish they would stop running out of the blood orange vinaigrette!)
