I have been here a couple of times to deal with some CDs my mom left me as «POD»(payable on death). The first CD cam due 6 months ago, the last of them last week. When I went to deal with the first CD, my mom had only passed away about 2 months before. Things were pretty raw. This branch/bank might be good for day-to-day banking, but it really seems like the staff(the people behind the desks), should understand what POD means. It is a pretty straight-forward banking concept. All I needed to do was show the birth certificate and my ID to get access to the funds(once the CDs had matured). I knew this. I don’t understand how bank associates cannot know this. The first time, they were telling us that we had to bring in a letter of testamentary and jump through a bunch of other hoops that I knew were not accurate. It was so frustrating, especially when you are fighting to hold back tears, to try to educate the bank staff of what POD means and what’s required and what is not. Today, six months later, it was like the same bank associate had forgotten how she dealt with the transaction six months ago. She again asked for unnecessary paperwork. Finally, she spoke to someone else and got things straight. This is a frustrating and upsetting thing to have to put up with, especially when you are are already upset that you are dealing with final details of a loved one who passed away. I really think that bank staff should understand the concept of «POD» and make it as easy an possible for the beneficiaries dealing with such accounts.

I only go here because it’s the only BoA in Fort Lee with a drive-thru ATM.
