I know this location well. It sits in the center of a budget to semi-seedy U shaped hotel and though right on Federal Highway, rather out of sight. It was once known as the Chickee Bar and later as the home of the Depot Cabana. When it was the Chickee its biggest draw seemed to have been from spring breakers or vacationing party types who used to rent inexpensive rooms at the hotel to party away and then when the Depot, a gay bar. Now as Splash Poolside I’m I not exactly sure of its market target as there it really doesn’t seem to have any particular focus except maybe as a bar/pool arrangement for locals and hotel guests which with hotel support may make it but no as a standalone as can’t see that really offers anything that anyone would go out of their way for, especially with so many other similar choices available. The bar area itself is nice, four big flat screens, a pool table, plenty of seating with some booth areas overlooking the pool. It has a restaurant and the grand opening menu looks pretty good with choices of ham, turkey, roast beef, and mahi mahi sandwiches, meatball subs, ribs, chicken wings, chicken tenders, 12 inch hotdogs, shrimp baskets and few specials of the day. Your drinks, however, will come in little plastic cups necessitated by the fact that are near and adjacent to a pool area where you can also eat, drink or take a swim. I didn’t try any of the food, so I can’t comment on that but I did have several drinks which I found to be of a rather weak pour in a dinky plastic cup and since I hit the place at a time when everyone else has a 2 for 1 or happy hour special I didn’t note any, hence way overpriced for what you get. On weekend nights they have scheduled entertainment and the bartendress who waited on me was extremely pleasant, friendly and knowledgeable in what she was doing. As the place seems to generally lack focus, is sort of out of place, in certain way gives a feeling of isolation, doesn’t have anything special about it and because there are so many other area choices I would consider better, two stars.
