Drolma Buddhist Meditation Center is a neat little space tucked into the hustle of the Oakland Park area. It’s a calm, peaceful and welcoming environment for everybody who enters. I began attending classes here 1 – 2 times a week and it has helped me further my spiritual practices and continues to inspire me to keep practicing. Norbu is an amazing teacher who loves guiding others. Definitely worth checking out a class if you’re curious, no pressure and very informative!

A wonderful place to escape especially on a thursday night where you can just sit still and be deep in the practice of Buddhist meditation. There is a wonderful energy at this place with nice and wonderful South Florida locals.

I went once and really enjoyed it. A friend invited me. Very warm and friendly. But arrive early. Parking lot is small and place gets packed. I parked across the street. The Thursday night meditation is very popular. I enjoyed the lesson and the instructor was very down to earth. The cost was around $ 8 or $ 10. There was a nice mixture of people present. Afterwards a few people stayed for the veggan dinner, which was surprisingly good.

I’ve been attending this center on and off since it was at the old location in Wilton Manors in 2006. If you’re looking for a peaceful place to meditate, study Buddhism, meet nice people and eat delicious vegetarian food, then this is your place. There are a lot of things to love here. The people are warm and inviting and the atmosphere inside is peaceful and beautiful. There’s a nice little gift shop inside with statues, books, cards, incense and prayer beads. The shrine is adorned with beautiful Buddha statues and offerings. They upgraded the chairs here to wide, padded, church-style chairs with pockets on the back, making meditation much more comfortable than when they previously used plastic chairs without padding. You can also bring your own meditation cushion or use one of the center’s cushions. A rule is that you must take off your shoes when you enter and place them on a little shelf near the door, so I recommend wearing shoes that are easy to remove and I also recommend wearing socks as a common courtesy to everyone. I would also recommend dressing comfortably but conservatively. You don’t want your perfume/makeup/hair/clothing/lack of clothing to be so distracting to others that they can’t focus on their studies, meditation, etc. Some classes/events are free, but most general study classes are $ 10 per class. There are also weekend retreats, which are a little more expensive but still very affordable. I highly recommend the free public talks and vegetarian potlucks. You can’t beat the nice evening you’ll have with great food and great people. I always come away having learned something new. This center will give you a foundation of Buddhist teachings and you’ll meet nice people in Fort Lauderdale in the process. This place is not intimidating for a newbie, and I highly recommend this center to anyone interested in Buddhism, meditation or self-improvement.
