Warning if you value your moving items. Last June my mother hired Mayflower(owned by A1A Atlantic) as her moving company solely because of the Mayflower reputation. Though the quoted price price was much higher than the estimate of other companies, my mom decided to go with Mayflower because she was assured by Joni Elliott, the agent she worked with, that with a $ 50,000 dollars insurance, my mother had nothing to worry about. She was promised that the company would take care of any losses or damages incurred during the move. We put our complete trust in Mayflower and paid the bill. On the day of the move, however, instead of a truck labeled«Mayflower», some truck with the insignia«A1A Atlantic» showed up! If that wasn’t a jolt, but we were promptly assured that it was the SAME company. That should have been a red flag for me! That was when all the problems began. The storage unit was not properly air conditioned because in the course of those few weeks, her furniture sustained quite a bit of damage. Some of the small cabinets had to be re-glued together, one Mica cabinet was split at the base, my expensive lucite dining room table and coffee table reduced to pieces with chips and cracks all over. My late stepfather was an antique Art collector and we had a very large unique jade piece, probably over 50 years old. This irreplaceable art work was shattered to pieces… Mayflower/A1A Atlantica refuses to pay even the minimum $ 3,500 that barely cover the repair of the two tables, despite the insurance purchased prior to the move. We are currently taking them to court over the matter. Shame on your Mayflower/A1A Atlantic for taking advantage of senior citizens, especially one that recently went through a major cancer operation. I’m spreading the word about this horrible company and welcome all to share this.

Quoted me $ 115/hour on the phone, roughly 3 — 4 hours plus 1 hour travel. So I’m thinking max $ 600 — $ 650. He shows up for the estimate and gives me an estimate for $ 1055!!! Claims they need an extra person and now 5+ hours. Then it’s an extra $ 130 for the mattress and TV’s — yeah, they charge extra to move your TV and mattress. An extra $ 11 to unload your mattress… yeah, I’m serious. Then $ 44 for wardrobes. He claims because we are on the top floor and there is a 50 yard walk to the trucks, they need an extra person and 2 extra hours. This might fool some people, but I had done this move when I moved into my apartment, I had a moving company that did the job in 3 hours at $ 375. He wants 5 hours minimum. I tried to explain that to Alex(THEOWNER!!!) and he didn’t care at all. He just rudely says«That’s my price» and was extremely nasty and rude. Even if he had a good price, I would never give him my business. I’m not that stupid, Alex, I just did this move. I was willing to pay a little extra for a more reputable company with a national brand name like Mayflower, but Alex was extremely rude and was padding the estimate big time. I had done the EXACT move when I moved in, so I knew about how long it took — give or take an extra hour or so. In fact, it’s even faster this time because my original move was down stairs, this one is into a house even closer to my location. There are other great movers that are far, far less expensive. We ended up scheduling the original company that moved us in for $ 425 flat rate and 2 other companies I called quoted between $ 500 — $ 600 max with free wardrobe and no extra charges to move the TV or mattress. A-1-A sounds reputable, don’t be fooled. They are a RIPOFF. Rude, bait and switch with lots of extra charges — $ 130EXTRA to move a TV and mattress? Isn’t that a pretty standard household item? Alex was nice on the phone, but was very rude in person. I wouldn’t want to deal with this company again, and he is the owner. Terrible experience. If you are in the area and need to move, do yourself a favor and call some competitors.
