Great food, salsa bar, great prices, very authentic, under new ownership! The al Pastor tacos are addictive. Check them out. And give them some new reviews! Let’s keep this authentic spot arround.

I would’ve never, ever found this joint without some online tips & prodding but I’m glad I went the extra mile. After 50 years, I figured it was time to try tongue and I’m still at a loss for words to describe it. Rich, full flavor, tenderer beyond belief. Fun to explore. The carnitas taco was too soggy for my tastes; the carne asada was tasty but flavors all got lost in some hellacious salsa. My sinuses were seared something fierce. I will go back for something different. I like to support such mom-n-pop(and kids too) businesses. If you’re brave with your Mex-aholic addictions, you will enjoy this spot.

After moving here form Cali, I had many many mexican food cravings. Many friends suggested that I go to tacos el tapatio because it has the most authentic taste. My bf and I got all hyped up thinking that this was going to be a little taste of home… oh were we disappointed. Everything was kind of blah. I know that doesn’t really help but the tacos all tasted boring even with they’re many sauces that I tried. It was really not worth the money I spent on it either. We left pretty disappointed and determined to find any close to authentic mexican food in fort collins.

As I’ve lamented before, there aren’t too many unique ethnic culinary adventures to embark on in Fort Collins. We’re pretty White Bread American here. When it comes to «ethnic», Mexican influence is mostly what we’ve got. When my husband suggested we go to Tacos El Tapatio for dinner, saying that this is the most authentic Mexican place in town and offering items that you won’t find on typical Tex-Mex menus, I sort of felt like we were going on a small town Travel Channel journey of our own. I was not thrilled with our dinner at El Tapatio. Our voyage into authentic Mexican cuisine turned out to be bland and boring. Everything seems to have a muddled flavor(which my husband liked). The service was nice and the family working was sweet(with one of the kids checking on us to see if everything was alright), but that was about it. It wasn’t worth the drive across town considering there are better authentic Mexican restaurants around. Hardly Travel Channel worthy.

Give this strip mall hole in the wall a try! I always try out a new Colorado-style Mexican joint by ordering a fish taco, a chili relleno, and another random item. El Tapatío does them all excellently, and I am very picky about both fish tacos and rellenos. Sizzling hot green chilis(my rellenos must be talking to me when they arrive), fish tacos that are not just frozen and microwaved Gorton’s from the Albertson’s next door covered with cole slaw, UNLIKE a certain expensive mexican place just up the road. Real made-in-Mexico soda pop in 16 oz returnable bottles for your meal. A good variety of home-made serve yourself salsas for toppings. Highly recommended!
