Wow! What a disappointment! To be upfront I did not try any of their mushrooms, because once I got done talking to the owner of this place I would never support a business with such a jerk as an owner. I currently live in WA, but grew up in CO. I came out here to visit some family and wanted to stop by here, as it is the only mushroom farm in CO, and learn a little bit more about the mushroom business. We just purchased some land and are looking into the business ourselves. We wanted some advise from someone who has been doing it for a while, as well as touts himself to be an expert in the field. Well I hope he doesn’t know too much that others don’t, because when this guy dies so does his knowledge. He states he is not interested in helping anyone get into the business, even though our market would never interfere with his. He went so far as to lie about the information he did give, as it contradicts even the information on his website. Example: he only produces around 2 – 3 thousand lbs of mushrooms a year(I verified this number 3 times in our conversation). Even at retail pricing thats $ 20k a year. I saw at least 2 employees, in the retail shop, or maybe it’s a sweat shop and he just houses Hispanics on the property. Idk, either way he was such an unhappy, miserable soul, I hope that’s not what I have to look forward to if we do decide to do this venture.

Hazel Dell Mushrooms are as fresh as it gets! They have a wide selection of edible mushrooms — Shiitake Oyster Lion’s Mane Portabella Button Cinamon Cap and they have this seasoning they package here that contains a mix of dried mushrooms, salt, and garlic! I made a delicious duck and mushroom stew with a variety pack of all of the above! the mushrooms were so good I bought some more the day I flew back to cali

I don’t go on county Road 32 hardly at all unless I am trying to get to I-25. I think though I discovered the Hazel Dell Mushroom farm though just through sheer wandering and saw the sign. I tucked this info in the back of my musty mind and went on about my business and would get the occasional reminder of needing to go here when I did make the infrequent journey through this area. I finally broke down and actually remembered to go here and I am so glad I did. While the farm does not offer tours because bacteria from your body and shoes may contaminate the mushrooms they do have plenty for you to buy. My first experience here was when I bought the Crimini Mushrooms which were simply delicious. Not long after I had these mushrooms I had another kind at a Fort Collins restaurant, Ace Gillette’s to be exact on a flatbread pizza and that too was simply to die for. If you want the best mushrooms that the community has to offer I definitely recommend Hazel Dell!

What a fantastic find at the market — a table full of beautiful mushrooms. I was in heaven. they had mushrooms that I had never even heard of — Lion’s mane for one. Excellent quality and you can’t get much fresher. It seemed like they were in dirt that morning.

Who doesn’t like to go Shrooming? I know I do, but good luck finding anything growing in the ground in the winter time. If you love fresh mushrooms & a good variety too, this is the place: Organic mushrooms, including shiitakes, oyster mushrooms, king oysters, maitakes, lion’s mane, and portobello. They will also work with you on the price too, depending on the quantity. One big plus, you are buying local. Here’s to tasty sustainability.
