Best selection in the area by far, plenty of current issues, trade paperbacks, back issues, and full runs as well as a few key issues. The owners are very friendly and passionate about what they do, I’ve been going weekly fore five years now and will definitely continue for as long as I can because they are great. Prices are fair and holds are available, there are cats but they are friendly.

Easily the best comic book store in Fort Collins. …in fact, I’d go so far as to say it’s really the only comic book store in Fort Collins. Went back in today for the first time in quite a while. It seems like the cats are gone and the place has been cleaned up quite a lot. They have always had the best selection of current comics in town, and the organization and quantity of their back issues beats their competitors by a mile. I’m a big fan of comic book stores that don’t feel they need to dilute the comics by carrying more toys and games than comics.

I have been going to Halley’s comics since I was in college back in the 1980s. I make a special point of stopping by whenever I am in Ft Collins. The owner has always been very nice and helpful. Last big pickup I did was with my son when we bought a big stack of Mad Magazines. Got a great deal on them. You should definitely check them out if you are in the area.

I’ve been to many comic book stores in my life and I’ve collected for years and this is by far the worst shop I’ve ever been too. The store smells like cat piss and there is hair everywhere. None of the comics have boards with their bag and everything is over priced. One time I got a subscription on the Walking Dead and had 3 comics in my box. I had already bought two of them when I was on vacation and when I came to get the one I hadn’t bought the guy threw a tantrum and cancelled my subscription. The first time I went there I asked if they had a ASM #96 and he then told me I didn’t know what I was asking for and if I had $ 500 and I knew that was outrageous and it was also in FN condition. The next time I came in, I was looking through comics and the lady accused me of stealing something as I walked out and it was a total WTF moment and that was my last time. All in all, DONOTGOTO Halley’s Comics

It’s tough out there for comic fans. The boom of the 90’s, the crash of the 00’s, sycophantic fanboys, and movies that have made either mockery or dumbed-down the myths that made us life long fans. The toughest part of being a comic fan has to be the internet. Not simply the sites that give voice to venomous, immature bullies, either. Amazon and other online retailers have done more to crush the comic industry than anyone. Now, I’m no corporate-bashing loon. What changed most of us from children giddy at the thought of a flying man to lifelong fans was that one place, the store with the knowledgeable people that knew what you liked, and had the same love for the medium as we did. Never more obvious than at Halley’s. The staff is welcoming and can answer your questions, yes, ANY questions. The selection might seem small, but get in there and look through. You’ll not only find the pre-requisite DC and Marvel titles, but what keeps me coming back are the independent comics that don’t have six-months of advertising or build-up in other titles. Ok, so the reason for four. Cats. I love cats, I have a cat. But there is a definite odor. The cats are friendly, mind you. But I can’t get many of my friends to go in the door. And that’s what I want, to show them the community of the comic shop.

The location is somewhat small, but the selection is large. Im just a casual comic reader but it seems like they had everything I could have ever wanted. Prices were affordable too. I was asked if i needed any assistance and the staff and cat were very friendly. My only complaint is that I wish it was better advertised so more people could visit it.

I first started getting interested in comics when I was very young. My mother bought us comic books so we would be quiet when they had to go see their lawyer and we had to wait outside the office. What she didn’t realize that it would spark and interest with me that would be long lasting. I officially became a collector. For a while I collected in between two companies. Marvel and DC. In my little town that was the only two big brands you could get. Sometimes you could get Harvey comics(home of Richie Rich and Casper the Friendly Ghost, but they got to be too cutesy for me) and Archie Comics. This was before the before the big explosion of indie owned comics that came around in the early 90’s. My habit grew and my mother told me I should get less comics. After a while there were so many spin offs from both companies I had to make a choice between Marvel or DC. I decided to go with Marvel. The rest of the duration of my stay in my small hometown I was always able to have access to comics but it was so limited. One night my family went out to eat in Fort Collins and I came across Halley’s Comics. They were closed at that point but I insisted that we go back in the morning. I was glad to see it, it was right near the restaurant we were going to. The next day I went in with my aunt and felt like a piece of strip metal being pulled by a magnet. I was being drawn to the comics. There was so much more to pick from! After several transactions in one visit, Susan the lady that runs the place along with her husband John thought it was so funny the way I kept getting pulled to a new comic that would catch my eye. I still lived in Wyoming at the time but whenever I came to Fort Collins I would always go to Halleys. While I was up in Wyoming for my few remaining years of grade school I decided to take the route of subscriptions which worked excellent up there. Sometimes when a big double sized issue came out my town would never get it or I would miss an issue and they would never had a duplicate for me to buy. Sigh. Such as life in a small town. Once I graduated from high school I moved to Fort Collins yet I resumed the subscriptions but also got a hold slot at Halley’s for comics I could not get a subscription for. If I paid with cash or check I got 10% off on my comics! Nice! John and Susan were always so friendly and nice when I came in! A few years later I started having trouble with my comics coming in the mail from the subscriptions. The post office did not seem to want to take any accountability for my missing issues and either blamed me or the comic company for not having my precise address. How come I only got some of my issues then and some were missing? So I gave up the subscription route and got all of my comics at Halleys then. Even after I graduated from college and moved to Denver and then back to Fort Collins I maintained a hold slot at Halley’s. Sometimes they would even order action figures for me over the years too! About two years ago I got laid off at my primary job and started to struggle in maintaining certain hobbies. Unfortunately comics was one of them. I still had a second job but it was only part time and I could not bring it up to full time hours. Then a snowball of personal losses and tragedies hit me for the next year and a half. Friends and family were passing away. Suicides, car accidents and old age. It makes one very hypersensitive when so many deaths happen in such a short amount of time. I was spreading myself ever thinner on my money and had to give up my comic hobby. Sometimes I felt that collecting comics became a habit… perhaps it maybe too strong to say an addiction but sometimes I felt it was. New spin off titles were constantly coming out and I thought I had to get them all! Stan Lee, the former president of Marvel as well as a comic book writer once said that collecting comics was one of the cheapest kinds of hobbies that you could have. I am not so sure that is true anymore with single issue comics clocking in around $ 3 to $ 4 per single comic. Oh how I long for the days when they were only 75 cents a piece! I try to still stay in the loop by browsing at condensed graphic novels from Marvel and keep updated on big story lines that are going on. I also use Wikipedia to keep updated, but the information is delayed. The suspense in getting the information and entertainment from single issue comics is gone using these mediums. The anticipation of waiting a whole month is gone to see what will happen next to The X-Men, The Avengers, etc. I miss running into Halley’s to find out! I miss John and Susan, their cats and this medium of escape! However with the responsibilities of adulthood that has reigned me in over the past year and a half I feel that another tragedy of sorts has happened besides people passing away that I know and love. It is a tragedy of having to let go part of my childhood, a wafting vapor that has finally evaporated and has at last eluded my grasp.

I’ll agree with Bryan B., Halley’s is the greatest comic shop for 50 someodd miles. For such a small store they manage to pack not only a large selection of new single issues, but back issues and condensed multi-issue graphic novels as well. They do have a cat in the store, but it is super friendly. Those allergic to kitty cats may want to have a friend run in for them though.

This is the only full blown comic shop for 50 miles I’m fairly certain. They have new and old comics from all different companies. You can even create a hold box where they will put aside issues of what you want to pick up whenever you want. The staff are very nice and know their comics. There is even a very friendly cat the spends his(or her?) days in the store. Keep local places like this in business! If you want comics, get them here.
