I am feeling very nostalgic for this place … it makes me very sad to drive by and see the storefront empty once again. It gives me a hankering for tempura, which Gohan Time always executed perfectly — beautiful shrimp and vegetables in a light, lacy fried batter which, according to all of the Japanese-language cooking shows I used to watch with my mom, comes from ice-cold batter … with such a simple trick it’s a wonder that nobody else seems to get it right. *sigh*

The restaurant and food gets 5 stars. This alert/announcement gets 1 star. Abe and Miyuki announced that they will be closing on July 13. Stop by and wish them good luck on their new adventure, and have some delicious Japanese food. I’m sad.

If you want a noodle bowl this is the place to go. It’s always empty, but the food is hot and tasty! It’s cheap too!

Got the teriaki chicken and it was very good! Sauce flavor was great and the rice had a perfect texture! Very yummy indeed! My only complaints were that the chicken was slightly dry and the portion I got was fairly small for what I paid. Otherwise it was an excellent meal!

I miss living in Fort Collins for a lot of reasons, but Gohan Time has to be at the top of the list. This is hands down the best sushi I have had in Northern Colorado — both in quality and price. The restaurant is always immaculate and never smells fishy or like Windex. The roll selection isn’t super fancy, which I appreciate, because you can taste the high quality fish that they use. The nigiri is always perfectly proportioned and fresh. Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever had a cooked item from Gohan Time, aside from the unagi, because the sushi is so darn good. Like everyone else has said, the husband and wife team that own this place are incredibly friendly and more than willing to accommodate, even if your order is six rolls and twenty pieces of nigiri between three people. Based on everyone else’s recommendations, I’m definitely going to try some noodles next time I go to Gohan Time — as long as I don’t fill up on sushi beforehand.

This is, without a doubt, my favorite restaurant in Fort Collins. I recently moved away and it is the only eatery I miss and crave to go to whenever I’m in town. I’ve tried a few of their dishes, but the one that does it time and again is the spicy chicken pan-fried noodle plate. It’s pretty simple, but superbly executed. In my opinion, Gohan Time is the most authentic Japanese restaurant in Fort Collins with menu items such as katsu don, inari, and udon soup that a lot of other establishments simply do not serve. Every time I’ve eaten here I’ve found the premises to be in a spotless condition, the staff has always been pleasant(especially the owners), and I’ve been able to get some friends really stoked on going here as well. In summary, the food IS fantastic, the prices ARE affordable, and I’m kind of wishing I was in Foco right now so I could go get some spicy pan-fried noodles!

This is a small, clean, mom-and-pop diner that serves very good Japanese comfort food. I’ve had the hiyashi cold noodles(excellent broth, sliced veggies, and large portion), spicy salmon maki roll(pretty good although the roll kind of fell apart), and the spicy chicken bowl(spice level is 7 –8 out 10FYI). I’ve also had the green tea ice cream — some of the best I’ve had. It’s no wonder why — they get it from a Japanese distributor. The service is very friendly and fast. Gohan Time also serves New Belgium beer. It’s pretty quiet, so it’s a good place to go if you don’t want to deal with the lunch crowds over at Noodles & Company — and the food at Gohan Time is light-years better.

I absolutely love this place! i recently moved to Fort Collins and saw how highly rated this place is and had to go. The first thing that struck me about this place is how clean the kitchen was in the background, usually you walk into a lot of places and i feel the kitchen appears to be in questionable condition but this place was great in terms of cleanliness. The food selection is fantastic, a lot of the dishes i haven’t seen offered at most Japanese places I’ve been to around Colorado. So far i’ve had the shoyu raman, Spicy Tuna Bowl, Omusubi, Katsu Curry, Chicken Katsu Don, the unagi avacado roll, califorina roll, and the philly roll. Every single dish is as good as the last. When i had the Chicken Katsu Don i was really excited i hadn’t had a domburi dish since i attended sushi culinary school. My girlfriend loves the katsu curry and gets it almost every time we’ve been she liked it so much the first time. The sushi tastes really fresh and is a pretty decent size as well(no super tiny rolls here!). Wile the selection is small i’ve found all the rolls i’ve had are really good. The California roll really pops with the roll rolled in a bit of flying fish roe. My favorite so far has been the Unagi avacado roll, for how simple it is its really quite good. I also find it really cool how this really is a purely mom and pops business. Another great thing i found is they have draft New Belgium for $ 3 all the time, which i consider to be a pretty good deal. If i could afford to eat here for every meal of the day i probably would.

After seeing this place being so highly rated, I kinda had high hopes. While the fish was fresh, it just wasn’t cut very well, the rice was cold and not really seasoned well. I don’t remember the hot food, so I found that rather unremarkable. I don’t mean to say that this place was bad — in fact, it was pretty decent. But it’s definitely not worthy of 5 stars, in my eyes. Nor really 4 stars… It was good, and cheap. Not Fantastic and affordable.

Very tasty place to go and visit! I had a very good spicy chicken bowl here and a can of green tea. The service was fast and friendly. I can’t tell you how much I loved my can of green tea because it had jasmine in it and I got a good taste of it. Whoever makes that brand of green tea does not hold back and I am glad! They also have very tasty desserts! I am happy I finally made the stop here at Gohan Time, before I just would mock my friends who didn’t like Dragonball Z when I would drive past the place and comment that Gohan was a character from the show which would always make them groan when I would mention that fact. Can’t wait to go back again!

This is my new favorite Japanese Restaurant. Everything is fresh and delicious. I got the fried chicken curry and it was the best I have ever had. Their sushi is also delicious. I will be coming back Gohan TIme!!!

I’ve been going to Gohan Time for several years. When I’m in the mood for Japanese food(which is often), this is the place I think of. I used to just get the spicy tuna bowl, because it was so great. However, I now often try new dishes, and have had the kimchi soup, ramen, beef bowl, chicken bowl, assorted sushi, and tempura. Everything is fantastic, and I usually have trouble limiting my order to an amount I can reasonably eat. I’ve visited Japan, and Gohan Time’s food will encourage you to, as well.

This place is wonderful Mom and Pop Japanese Restauran(Literally)! Great traditional food, and simple sushi options Their donburis such as Oyako Don(a chicken bowl) are fantastic, and I think that this may be the only place to get honest to goodness Omusubi, which are rice balls filled with noms. I suppose most folks would consider it a «rice nigiri» Now, the décor isn’t all that spectacular, but actually is similar to what you’d find in a small out of the way Tokyo lunch spot, so it works for me, and the service is wonderful. I always feel welcome. They do have sushi here, but this is not why I go. I often won’t even get sushi here, though the do serve the«trinity»(Tuna, Salmon and Yellow Tail-Hamachi). Mind you, I have ordered it here, but I come for the traditional meals. A definite plus: Delivery! Perfect for lunch if you work downtown, though they deliver all over Fort Collins. The menu is a bit small, but what they do they do wonderfully. The teriyaki is great, the donburis and even the goyzas are wonderful. Definitely recommended.

Really liked the chicken teriyaki bowl… lots of meat! The boyfriend got the spicy chicken and some sushi, and liked that as well. Not gourmet, but definitely a good, tasty food.

At one point in my life, I ate sushi for lunch every single day. I worked right next to a small mom and pop shop where the Japanese owners barely spoke English and the Sushi Chefs knew me by name. On days where the office decided to go out for lunch, we often frequented another sushi restaurant just down the street a mile or two where they started my order before we were seated. I’m sure if I had a soundtrack to my life at that time, it would have been I’m turning Japanese, by The Vapors. I’ve consumed enough sushi in my life to certainly qualify me as an expert(now, if I could only make it). I would have kept up with it too if it weren’t for those things called«budgets». My husband told me to back off on the sushi because I was eating us out of house and home. The other day my husband suggested we try out Gohan Time. I was a little wary since I hadn’t heard any first hand experiences. I’ve been by the place more times than I can count but was never compelled to go in because I just didn’t know. Man, was I missing out. The sushi was fantastic. It was fresh, clean and the rice was perfectly sticky. You know how some sushi is just poorly made and just falls apart when you touch it? Or the rice is dry and tasteless? Not this sushi. You can definitely tell that years of experience have gone into it’s construction. Overall, we had a great experience. It was quality food at a reasonable price, where I can afford to eat there regularly to get my sushi fix without having to mortgage our home. It’s an immaculate atmosphere with hospitable service. Japanese food is incredibly healthy as it is, so there are plenty of options that will work for anyone on a diet. And? They have a kids menu, which is also modestly priced(under $ 5) and good for them too!

Damn, this had potential. As this is probably the last time I’ll ever be in Fort Collins, I wanted to try it since it seems like a hidden gem based on the reviews. The ma and pa were so adorable too! But if they plan to close at 9pm, they shouldn’t close the kitchen and say that tempura isn’t available @ 8:30p. Just my 2 cents…

This has been one of those restaurants that we have been meaning to try for about a year and a half. Yeah, we’re a little slow… After reading Sarah R.‘s review I decided now is the time — she seems like she knows what she is talking about so off to Gohan Time. Two words — Loved it! First off the place is so comfortable inside! It is crazy clean and the tables are laid out nicely. The couple that owns the place is indeed adorable! Very kind and welcoming people for sure. I had the pan-fried noddles with tofu and I am so glad! Loved the sauce, it was a touch spicy and sweet and sour and salty all at the same time, YUM! The noodles and tofu were super tasty and cooked perfectly. My husband had the sushi, he didn’t say much about it and kept stealing bites of my noodles. I really liked the atmosphere in Gohan Time which is weird because it is very simple, order at the counter joint but the energy here just feels really nice, like you are eating at a good friends house. Weird statement alert: I am a sucker for cleanliness and this place is spotless — even the bathroom, probably the cleanest restroom in Fort Collins(aside from mine at home of course)!
