There is one reason to eat here in my opinion, and it is a very good one. To order the sweet pork burritio with creamy habenaro white sauce! Try it, you will love it. Worth waiting in the always-long line.

Café Mex is one of my go-tos anytime I’m in FoCo. I’ve been eating there since high school, and stop by every time I’m back in town. I always get the same thing: Chicken burrito, no rice, extra black beans, extra white sauce, extra cheese, with lettuce on the side. And it’s phenomenal. Also it’s definitely enough food to keep you fed for the next couple of days. On top of my standard meal, they home make their tortillas and they’re so soft and fantastic tasting, you just want to buy a whole bunch of them(which you can). They’re also famous for their pork. I usually prefer the chicken on my burritos myself, but the pork nachos are great if you’re looking for something with some more crunch. One thing you always have to have on your food though is the creamy habanero sauce. It’s just the best thing there is in the whole world.

I want to bathe in their creamy habanero sauce. And their sweet pork is worth its weight in gold.

Favorite place in Fort Collins. Try the nachos if you are wanting to try something other than the burrito. It is pricey but well worth it and there is enough food for leftovers for the next meal!

This is your run of the mill tex-mex restaurant. Tasty and reliable, but rather bland and nothing special.

The tortillas are one of the highlights of Café Mexicali, they make them right in front of you. The sauces are also delicious, creamy habanero is probably the most popular. The burritos are so large they can suffice as two meals. The nachos are also a very generous portion.

3.5. I went in for a burrito on the recommendation of a co-worker. The sweet pork with the creamy habanero sauce is really, really good. The size is pretty good for the price. Service is basically there to slap food into containers. It was slow when I was in there, but I got the feeling that you’d better know what you want before you walk up to the counter. I’m sure I’ll be back.

I always love a place with homemade fresh tortillas. The medium creamy habanero sauce is delish. And I loved the guac super fresh. We are just visiting a friend and came here for dinner. We have something similar at home and I prefer the meat there(thus the four stars instead of five). But I would definitely come back.

The food is great, the service is slow. The restaurant seems to be staffed by a bunch of hungover college kids who have no sense of urgency to serve an extremely long line. 25 minutes in line for fast food?

If you have 3 meals in Fort Collins, Café Mex should be 1 of them! My favorite order is a chicken burrito, both beans, green chile inside, creamy Habenero outside, half lettuce/half chips(yes, they let u do that). Some have pointed out this is not authebtic mexican food. Yes, but it’s amazing. I’m from New Mexico, and no restaurants meet my chile expectations. But Café Mex satisfies a whole other craving, and I highly recommend it! (Sweet pork is the wife’s favorite. It’s awesome in a quesole smothered in creamy Habenero)

Café mexicali could easily be my favorite place to eat in fort collins. The food is great and cheap! There isn’t many places where you’ll find a better burrito in Fort Collins. I usually get the sweet pork burrito

This place was good. I wouldn’t really call it true«Mexican» food(or even true Tex-Mex) if that’s what you’re expecting, but if you’re in the mood for something cheesy and fun, I would definitely recommend giving it a try. I’ve tried a few things on the menu, but the one thing that REALLY stands is the mango salsa — seriously, the mango salsa alone prompted a repeat visit. The grilled chicken salad with the mango salsa is probably the healthiest thing on the menu, and it is super-tasty(and huge). The«famous» white sauce on the burritos and other dishes is good, too. Be warned: this place gets really busy during normal peak meal times, and you will be stuck in line with 100 teenagers, so try it(at least the first time) during a slightly«off» period.

YUM. Any college student in Fort Collins knows that Café Mexicali is awesome. The best thing on the menu is the smothered sweet pork burrito with the creamy habanero sauce — if you don’t get this, you’re missing the point entirely. The burritos are huge. I have never even come close to finishing one in a sitting; I usually eat half and save the other half for lunch the next day. Trust me, it’s just as good as leftovers! The guacamole is also fantastic — I bought a pint($ 8) the other night to share with friends and everyone was asking where I bought it. The line can get pretty long around 6pm. There’s a deal where children eat free on Mondays, so things get a little hectic. If you’re a student, their college club gives you a 20% discount every time!

Fort Collins affords patrons the pleasure of humble Tex-Mex… as you can likely pick up on, on account of the name. With a word like Mexicali, you can be fairly certain that most individuals deciding to eat here know what they are getting into. With an American outlook in mind, I braved my way down College and dug into a huge pile of nachos. I’m seeing the light. Clear eyes. Queso, beans, and guacamole… atop tortilla chips. Once they slide down the hatch… Full hearts. Finding decent-quality, no-frills(what we might consider Mexican in Texas… they are a dime a dozen) Mexican grub in FoCo? Can’t lose.

The Bad: The food was cold, their spiciest red sauce was not even the slightest bit spicy. I had cheese enchiladas and they were luke warm and cold in some spots. the green Chile was OK, but on the bland side. My son got a shredded beef rolled taco thing, the beef was very salty and had a strange sweet flavor. The Good: The flour tortillas were great. Beans and rice were decent. The guacamole was very good as well. This would be great for someone who doesn’t like spicy food, but still wants California style Mexican food. Overall impression: It could be made better with a few minor changes, but it isn’t likely that I will return.

We love Café Mexicali! The food here is delicious. Always recommend anything with the creamy habanero sauce on anything! There is almost always a wait. If you are in a hurry, save Café Mexicali for a different day. If you have enough patience to realize that waiting isn’t the end of your life, great! Make sure your order is correct, as with any busy restaurant every once in a while they may forget something. A little trick is to call in your order ahead of time, and you won’t have to wait in line. The wait for picking up to go orders is usually 10 – 20 minutes. Keep calm and Café Mexicali on!

The reviews are so misleading. I live in Florida and every time I come I make a point to go to Café Mex at least twice. Smothered pork barbacoa burrito with rice and black beans and creamy habanero sauce, never fails! The tortillas are fresh and I’ve been lucky to always have great service(long or short line). So many comments are unreasonable and whiny. So the company and employees are having a «tipping dispute»? Well, that does suck but the food is amazing so rate reasonably. So that one«white boy» didn’t know how to make something and you write off the entire company? I hope people have never given you a second chance. «Lot of young nasty collage kids» — I think I just made my point. Please give this tasty restaurant a chance. It has never failed me. Hopefully you’ll have a great experience as well. And hell, if it does I’m sorry but make sure you’re not writing emotionally because you might come to realize it wasn’t their fault.
