Van Maur’s clearance shoe room is the best place in town to find cute shoes on the cheap. It’s a little messy at times and can get pretty busy, but it’s worth it when you find expensive shoes marked down to half-price.

I recently purchased a Soya and Kyo winter coat from Von Maur. It wasn’t a cheap coat and it appeared to be a smart purchase. If you had asked me a few years ago if it was a good idea to spend a lot of money on a coat, I would’ve said you were crazy. But now that I’m over the age of 25, purchases like coats become a higher priority than, say, drinks at a bar :) Anyhoo, back to the coat. It was very cute, well-lined and 100% wool. Unfortunately, the buttons were not sewn on very well. Two of them came off within a week! The worse part is that the buttons were not your typical, run of the mill buttons(which they shouldn’t be on a $ 400 coat!) and they only came with one large replacement and one small replacement. I immediately took the coat to my trusty tailor here in St. Louis(refer to Perfect Fit tailor shop). It wasn’t a cheap alteration and she mentioned that the buttons were not sewn on well and that I should call the shop where I purchased the coat and tell them what happened. So I did. Wrote a letter to Von Maur and Soya and Kyo respectively. The manager at Von Maur called me within a few days and offered to have the buttons sewn on at their store free-of-charge. Unfortunately I live in St. Louis and can’t drive 300 miles to have buttons sewn on a coat. But it was nice of her to offer… Soya and Kyo never called or emailed me. As much as I like my coat(and get a lot of compliments on it), I will not be buying one of their items of clothing ever again! But that won’t stop me from purchasing other items at Von Maur.
