Let me just say if anyone knows me, he/she knows I am NOT a donut person. With the exception of my daughter’s love for donuts, I thought why not give it a try — Their donuts were not like any other kind my daughter and I have had before. Given with our Asian background, we know flavorful tasting pastries when we see them! Their creamy filled donuts gave such a distinct, yummy flavor, and it wasn’t too light or too heavy, it was just the perfect touch. I loved the fruit garnish on some of the donuts, but my most favorite garnish/topping on the donut were Oreos. CRUMBLEDOREOS! If the donuts don’t do you justice, the owners do. Their customer service as soon as I walked in the door until the second I walked out, A+. From what I know, donut shop employees are not your friendliest. Given that they literally live a nocturnal life. When everyone’s asleep in the comfort of his/her own bed, they’re in their shops baking and preparing for the 9 – 5 workers’ breakfast. I applaud their friendly and welcoming service! My daughter and I most definitely will not be strangers to this shop, that’s for sure!

Nom nom nom!!! The donuts here? So tasty! I don’t know what it was called but I had this apple donut with filling. Usually I hate donuts with filling. But whatever was in that Apple donut changed my mind lol! It had this creamy buttery taste that was super good. The density of the donut worked so well with the filling! The new owners here are so nice and made some great suggestions for donuts to try. Definitely stop by for a treat. And make sure you get a few extra for a friend, they’ll love you for it I promise :)

I normally don’t eat Donuts at all — but those ones I had at this place is out of this world. For all Donuts lovers and enthusiastic will absolutely their treats. I highly recommend it!

Visiting from out of town and stopped here. It was very good. The customer service was great too! Ordered one of there cheese sausage rolls and a chocolate cake donut. Both were great! The sausage roll was more of a «pig in a blanket» but was good regardless. The cake donut wasn’t greasy as some can be and had nice flavor.

Just not the same. This is the first time I have been back since it changed owners. They have a larger display case and it looks nice in there but the donuts just aren’t as good. They are dry and bland. The service was just ok. The former owners were always very friendly and welcoming. It is just another donut shop now.

DARNGOODDONUTS! Made the drive this morning to check out the donuts. We got quite the variety with a pig n a blanket and sausage, egg and chz breakfast sandwich. $ 25 worth of donuts, my inner fat kid is happy, happy, happy. Everything looked SO good. I cldnt help it! How do you choose just one? Everything was Amazing! The staff and possibly the owners who were busy little bees in the back were extremely friendly. If you haven’t made it out to Forney, do so soon!

I went here with my husband who had been here a few times before. The inside is cute and comfy, has a large seating area. As much as I love donuts, I just couldn’t get in to this place. Don’t get me wrong, the service was great, but there wasn’t that big of a variety of donuts. There were pigs in a blanket and these little BBQ buns but I am more in to donuts, and most of those were sold out. I think this is just a hard business to manage, especially when they are open until 12.

I have been here twice, once when the original owners(the sisters) had it and then a few months after they sold. Donuts are still on the poorer/stale side… I wanted to give the new owners a chance but first impressions are everything. I basically got a bag of stale donut holes.

Change in ownership? Things are different lately, but not in a good way. The fritters are half the size. Turning into an ordinary so-so donut shop?!? :*(What’s happening? Say it isn’t so!!!

This place just isn’t very good, as much as I wanted to like it. The donuts are definitely different, but they don’t taste very good. They’re cakey and VERY dense… just not my preference. I would be better off just buying a dozen Walmart donuts over these. Overpriced for what you get. Service is obnoxious. They treat you like they’re doing you a huge favor for selling you donuts. They actually brag about«selling out» every day. Why not just make more donuts? I’ve been inside no later than 10 to have to choose from very limited selections. Skip this place and go to the other local donut shops in Forney. They’ll greet you with a smile there!

I just cannot make up my mind on this place. My kid LOVES their blueberry cake donut holes and I’m a big fan of the blueberry cinnamon roll. The kolaches are nothing special or fancy, but they hit the spot. Admittedly, I haven’t tried any of their«fancy» donuts yet but that’s only because I never know what’s in the case. Nothing is labeled. I’m sure I could just ask but I always feel like I’m bothering the folks behind the counter. I have never received friendly service there, only an obligatory tight-lipped smile. However, I did notice that they were super friendly with a few groups/couples before and after me and seemed to know them on a personal level. I feel like this might be a place where you receive a better reception if you go to church with someone working there, your kid plays t-ball with their kid, or your Mama’s cousin lives across the street from them. You gotta’ know someone to get a smile? I really want to like this place. I’ve worked in small-town, locally-owned bakeries before and LOVE the experience of being in one, but I’m just not sold on the staff. For a small, start-up shop, they’re doing little to cultivate their relationships with the customers they don’t already know.

Minimal selection. Obnoxious service. More interested in commenting on their music selection than getting our order right. Donuts tasted old. Not fresh. Off the standard path, so kinda of a waste of time. Average price range. A definite«Meh» rating.

I really wanted to like this place & have been here a few times, but I give up. Their donuts & kolaches just aren’t good. The donuts are mostly cake donuts, which I’m just not a big fan of… my personal taste, I understand. But it’s just not the unappetizing donuts, it’s the toppings as well. I have always went right around the time they open & the toppings are always stale. If it was later in the morning I would understand, but it isn’t. The kolaches aren’t like typical ones, they are made with a different dough, they are hard, lacking flavor & are small. I get that they are trying to do things different & try new things… but it just isn’t working for me.

I love sweets and I love donuts but I’m just not a fan. :-/I’ve tried about 12 varieties over the past year hoping I would fall in love with one of them. I’ve had a couple of them that were not just bad but downright repulsive. I don’t know if it was just a bad batch but the custard in the Cream Brûlée was grainy and had separated. I literally spit it back out. It tasted like raw egg yolk with grains of sand in it. I was exited to see the fritters! I ordered an apple one after months of stopping by several Thursdays and Fridays to be told they don’t have them ready yet. The grease literally ran down my chin. I couldn’t eat a donut for a month I was so repulsed. As for the customer service I’ve seen the locals being greeting with smiles and friendliness but as with another person stated I’ve been in several times and haven’t been warmly welcomed by anyone but the young cashier. I’ve been waited on by the owner but she wasn’t friendly, warm, or even very courteous. It may be that I’ve asked for a doughnut they advertise as selling on Thursdays and Fridays but never have any ready when I stop by. It hasn’t been that that sold out just that they weren’t prepared when they opened. Restaurants that consistently run out of staples, fail to open on time, or open completely unprepared are things that annoy me. This place seem to be repeat offender of those three of those pet peeves.

From a former Gourmet Doughnut Shop owner, I had to stop by and check out this place when I heard that they were going to be featuring their products in my favorite Bubble Bubble Tea house in Terrell. I drove out this morning from Dallas just to try them, and First Things First, the Doughnuts looked and tasted great, I purchased an assortment along with a Coffee and a Brisket bite thing… it was most awesome! I took the box of tasty treats to a friends house and I sat at the head of the table and cut each one into 4 pieces and we passed them around and everyone sampled each product. Overall, I give them a pretty darn high score. I have high hopes for The Hole Thing, and I also support Bubble Bubble in Terrell. Every now and then along comes a small business with lots of promise, and I truly hope these businesses go a long way. Now, for the suggestions to The Hole Thing…(my opinion as a Donut«Doughnut» Aficionado, Entrepreneur, Owner & Operator) Things I learned in my Palm Springs business.) 1. You gotta label your product, «Educate the Consumer» tell them what it is with a simple little label either in front of the display or on a toothpick in the first donut! and take a photo of each and post the menu on FB and Unilocal and make it memorable. If they like a specific donut, then give the consumer a name and a tasty image that they can remember. 2. When you put your product in the display case, do not smush them against the glass, not pretty! 3. When I GPS’d the address, it took me straight to your competition over at 80 near Wally world… If I did not know better, that is where I would have had my morning donuts and coffee… Get that FIXEDASAP, because you were not easy to find and the parking lot was not easy to navigate, since I was not a local… But I found you and I am glad I did. For those of you asking for 20% discounts, GETREAL people, the donut business is not a huge profit business, and making donuts is time consuming and hard work. Pay the price for a great product and tip the help and help support the small business person in such a difficult market. If you want a discount, go to Lowes and get 5% by using your Lowes card… and don’t pick on the hard working donut makers. If you want run of the mill donuts, then go to Dunkin or Kryspy, or Shipleys, or Sunny, all good, but the Gourmet Donut is my preference, we all have preferences and options, I choose to support The Hole Thing. Overall, I give 4 stars, and I think The Hole Thing has a great future, clean it up a bit, get those labels, and keep up the good work… awesome product. :-)

First I’d like to start off by stating that I will def be going back & I would recommend it if you are ever in Forney from the 5am-noon. As for previous comments about it being pricey, I would have to disagree, they cost what donuts cost everywhere. Also about the owner being friendly I would also have to disagree. She was not friendly, I mentioned a 20% off discount & she seemed to be upset about it & was pretty rude about it. She was however really nice to all the«usuals/locals.» The donuts were all good, no one seemed to complain about them. The chicken biscuit was also very good. I was looking forward to the pulled pork, but they only have them on Sat & Sun.

I am a big fan of The Hole Thing, their Facebook page is one way to keep up with what is going on at THT. Due to the unique nature of their donuts I just wish they would label the donut rack so you can see the flavors without having to ask each time. Also since the selection rotates, possibly a donut schedule online(like those fancy cupcake places) that show which days will have which donuts.

I peed my pants a little when I first read about this place on Pegasus News. And then a little more when I read Dan W’s glowing review on Side Dish shortly afterward. It was all over when I walked in and saw that gleaming case of goodies, the most exciting of which(for me) were the Girl Scout cookie donuts! I have been VERY good this year and not eaten one dang cookie! But then I ordered 16 donuts, so… maybe I cancelled that out. These folks are really creative(and super friendly to boot). I am a big fan of Hypnotic Donuts and have to say that a lot of the Hole Thing Donuts were even more intriguing than what HD is putting out. Pie donuts? Peanut butter banana fritters? Not just bacon, but dark chocolate, maple bacon, and sea salt? A THAI donut with peanut butter, red pepper flakes, and sriracha for goodness sake??? Plus sausage rolls, cinnamon buns… it was very intimidating, and I ordered so much because it was so far I didn’t know when I’d be back. Also, my buttload of donuts only cost a hair over $ 15 bucks, so that’s pretty affordable to me when I’ve spent the same amount on far fewer goodies at some other specialty bake shops. Looking at you, cake balls! Anyhoo. I took home my bounty and got to sampling. I started out with a glazed donut and a couple donut holes just to get a taste of the standards. Honestly, not the best I’ve had. They seemed a bit dry and chewy to me. I’m not sure if they were hot and fresh or when they had been made, or if it was because it was 30 – 45 minutes later by the time I got home and started eating. I moved on to alll the other stuff, and was kinda disappointed. It would take me far too long to go into what I thought about each individual donut but overall I liked the chocolate cake-based donuts best, and found the ones with the yeast donut base were a little chewy and not melt-in your mouth. The chai cake donut also seemed a little dry. My favorites were the s’more donut filled with marshmallow crème, the savannah smile lemon GSC donut(although I like HD’s Lucy in the Sky better, mainly because the donuts themselves are better there) and the Thai one, which was actually really, really good. And she made that one custom for me so I wonder if that had anything to do with why it tasted fresher. Oh, and the fritters actually tasted better the second day. I am no fritter expert though, as that’s not something I usually get. So all in all, I give creativity and fun factor 5+ stars. Taste of the donuts themselves were more like 2 – 3 stars but the toppings usually made them a solid 3 or sometimes 4 stars. I would say check them out because they’re a great local business that Forney is lucky to have but just be prepared that you’re mostly going for the innovative toppings and stuff rather than a great basic donut.
