Solid breakfast. Pay with Square! Great family diner with good breakfast, staff, and company.

Cute place but I could tell right away since we weren’t regulars we got crappy service — waitress seemed pissed that we didn’t want coffee at 10 o’clock in the morning– cold too runny eggs — everything was cold and tasteless — the toast was not toasted or buttered.

This place has one of the most beautiful views of any restaurant in the Lynchburg/Forest area– unfortunately the food is absolutely sub-par, even for Lynchburg. If I had to come up with a comparable cuisine, I’d probably say the Aramark cafeteria at the hospital. We had their breakfast buffet, which for $ 8, was pretty small. Small selection aside, the food was basic, greasy, and bland. The eggs were obviously fake and the real eggs my wife ordered were so greasy she couldn’t eat more than a couple bites. The pancakes were decent, but there was no real maple syrup– just a squirt bottle of flavored corn syrup on the table. The one bright spot(other than the view) was the service– everyone we encountered was pleasant and helpful and gracious with my less-than silent children. Unfortunately, I couldn’t recommend ever eating here unless you’re truly desperate and nothing else is open.

The food is mediocre at best, terrible service. Won’t be back.

The biscuits are spongy, not flaky like I would hope, the home fries don’t have any seasoning, and the scrambled eggs w/cheese and sausage & gravy biscuit are a bit flavorless. A nice place with plenty of items to choose from, so maybe we just ordered the wrong things!

Horrible, rude service. Food is strictly diner fare. Better food, service and atmosphere at the Golden Arches! Food is freshly thawed. Staff really rude when we showed up 30 minutes before closing(we are talking 2 pm, it’s not like it was midnight)

YO! What a great family restaurant. And, the food is good too. Really, this is a eatery that is for local yokels, run by local yokels, and it caters to those who like a wholesome breakfast(yes, take all you want buffett) and/or just good home-like food for lunch, snack or dinner. Nothing fancy, just good stuff. Reasonably priced too. Join us long-time customers, sit and eat a spell in downtown Forest on Rt #221. No, we’re not in any way connected to this place, other than just good eating. Bye! Sonny C. Forest, VA

Good breakfast, but amazing grilled catfish. My husband likes fried catfish, but after trying my grilled one he preferred that! Fun little local place with country food.

If you want a small town diner with good food this is your place. This place is great for a relaxing breakfast. They have a buffet on Saturday for 7.99. Sausage gravy is good. Be prepared for slow service, you can not be in a hurry when you come here.

Good local food. I had the breakfast buffet. It was good but not a very big selection. If it had a few more options it would have gotten 5 stars. Other than that I hage no complaints. Great food and atmosphere.

Love their ribs !! Great smoked flavor from their own sauce. I can’t go through Lynchburg without paying them a visit. Hey, this must be one reason why I gain weight every time I go through Lynchburg?

Breakfast buffet on Saturday morning was excellent… with a very«down home country» feel! Will be back!

It’s good for a breakfast place. I would probably say 3.5 stars but whatever. I got the Carols special. If you go, try to avoid Eddie Turner but be prepared to hear him whine about it, he’s there around 8am every morning.

Pretty much the worst service in town and the food isnt much better. If you are willing to be totally ignored and with 30 mins for coffee while eating cold eggs then this is the place for you my friend.

If you’re looking for a down home breakfast place then this is great. Just went there and had the breakfast buffet. The selections were limited and the food wasn’t 5-stars, but it truly felt and tasted like it was cooked fresh with that grandma’s cooking feel to it. It’s a very comfortable atmosphere unless you’re a snob. Everybody was nice and you can talk to them like if you were in your living room with no pretentiousness. And they do serve breakfast buffet until late which was perfect because it was almost noon when we went. This was a Saturday brunch time so can’t speak of anything else since it was our first time there. The«views of the mountains» that some other reviews mention are not nearly as spectacular since the porch is right on a semi-busy street and the mountains are pretty far away. But the porch was very nice with a sweet light breeze, until it got chilly and we relocated inside. All-in-all I am interested in going back for lunch/dinner meals to see how good they do then as well. It’s a very homey non-fancy place with good prices and fresh-feeling food.($ 7.50 brkfst buffet, $ 1.50 hot cocoa or coffee)

Horrible. Wouldn’t recommend it to my dog. Food is utterly bland and tasteless. Tried it enough times to know, kept thinking I just went on a bad day. Apparently every day is a bad day there. Breakfast is edible, but then again it’s hard to screw up breakfast. Menu is uninspiring, boring, and consists of greasy spoon staples and disgusting sandwiches and burgers. Prices are stupidly high for what is served. The worst of it is, you expect a greasy spoon to be a wonderful combination of low nutrition, butter-filled, deliciously tasty meals. Carol’s place is devoid of anything even remotely resembling flavor. Additionally, service is god-awful, bordering on criminal for the amount of time you have to wait for your food, if that’s what you want to call it. The place looks grimy and filthy and everything from the table tops to the salt shakers has this grimy chunky coating on it. It is literally one of the worst places I have ever eaten, and is really a disgrace to the community of diners, dives, and home cooking type establishments.

Great breakfast buffet and beautiful view of the mountains! Carols is a great locally owned place for traditional country food. We have always heard good things about this place, but this is the first time we have tried it and we loved it! They are under new management now and seem to be doing very well. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is that of a long time family owned restaurant. The interior feels like you are eating in your grandma’s kitchen and the view out the windows makes you feel like you are in a mountain home. I would highly recommend sitting on the deck that overlooks the blue ridge mountains if the weather is nice. We had the breakfast buffet and it was absolutely delicious and a great value for $ 6.95! Real, home cooked food. Fresh fruit, fried apples, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, eggs, sausage links and patties, bacon, grits, fried potatoes and creamed chip beef. We ate late in the morning and it was all still fresh! We plan on making this a regular weekend stop. I love that they serve breakfast until 2:00(We like to sleep in), and they treated us like family. Definitely stop by if you are looking for a great home cooked meal that you don’t have to clean up after :)

Went here for breakfast one morning and it took the waitress 10 min just to come to the table. We ordered as soon as she got there. Then we waited… And waited… And waited… Asked a different waitress for refills on our coffee… Waited some more… After 25 additional min(totaling 35) we got up to leave. As we were leaving, our food came out. So we decided to sit back down as we didn’t have time to go somewhere else. The food must have been sitting for a while because it was cold. Only reason I gave 2 stars is because the manager who we complained to comped our check. Famous Anthonys is much better and about the same price. Fast friendly service.
