Not just great staff for a hardware store, but great staff, period. Probably the best employees anywhere in Forest Park. Lots of nice touches like the Rube Goldberg-​style gumball machine that my kids love to patronize when we shop. It’s like stepping back in time forty years to a time when «Friendly neighborhood _​_​_​_​_​_​_​_​_​_​_​» really meant something.

Didn’t catch the gentleman’s name who helped me out, but he was great!
I came in with my dog, he immediately asked if he could give my pup a treat!
My dog wasn’t so fast to take it of course, waiting for me to tell him it was ok!
I ordered Studio Monitor stands online, and the Screws they sent me with the units horrible, falling apart (2 of them were bent…)
I brought the backbone of the unit to the store with me with the shotty screws, he noticed the threading in the unit was shot.
He kindly asked my permission to fix it with a better screw and wrench (re-​thread it), which i gladly granted!
And viola! Fixed!
Now I have my nice Studio Monitors in my home studio standing sturdy and strong, not worried they will fall over when I cough!

The staff at Schauer’s makes me feel excited to try new projects and learn. They’re so friendly, easy to talk to and insightful. I don’t know much about anything related to home improvement, toolz, etc. and feel intimidated to ask a question at most hardware stores.
Having a hardware store I feel comfortable in makes me want to take on new projects at home which is very cool to me.

I don’t use tools. I never need tools. The only reason I come to the store is to get keys made. But every time I come I’m greeted by least 17 people who all want to help me. I make my way all the way to the back, get my keys made, and pay in 5 minutes. Everyone is very courteous. I love the store. if I was local I would maybe even take up gardening just to visit more often.

I am far from Bob the builder but I enjoy coming to this store. I would rather stop in this great place for hardware needs before going to a big box retailer.
Every staff member I have encountered has been knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. My most recent visit was for a specific item but I left with items I needed but never knew existed.
I can also fully appreciate the various novelty and old school favorites near the front of the store. I know nothing about Bubble up, but if that was your drink back in the day, it’s here too. Come and get it!

How do I like Schauer Best Hardware? Let me count the ways. I have been stimulating their economy for about 15 years and the place has not really changed at all. This store is the real deal as a hardware store — no high design here. It is a straightforward tidy jumble of regular and seasonal items. The people who work at the store are all independent and you will get wildly different levels of service depending on their personality and if they relate to you — or not. I enjoy hob nobbing with the owner who provides a tough love approach to customers like me. They have now moved into the soda and tea business with a wide selection near the cash register for those impulse shoppers. Overall, I sleep well knowing that Schauer Best Hardware keeps chugging along and I can come over in five minutes to either get my problem solved — or enjoy the experience of not getting it solved.

Love this place. Will come here first for any of my hardware needs. Friendly and always helpful staff keeps me coming back time after time.
The other great thing is that they allow leashed dogs into the shop and the staff is right there to offer a couple little treats to the pooch!
