First off, the staff is incredibly rude. Secondly, they never have anything! The selection here is small and the shelves are often empty and they don’t sell sweet potato pie! This is the ONLY bakery I know that doesn’t sell sweet potato pie. I’ll give them two stars because they little they do offer is always tasty.

Stopped here for donuts with my son. The advantage Kay had over everyone else was that they were open; it was only 6am. There were plenty of other offerings but we had our heart set on donuts. Basic variety but well made. The coffee left something to be desired but I assume most people don’t take the option. The service was very friendly and made us feel welcome, even though there were on a handful of chairs. We’ll likely return on a future weekend.

This place was just sad. We went hoping for some fresh baked goodies. We found half empty cases and the items that were there looked old and dried out. We were also greeted with unfriendly staff… a smile goes a long way!!! We purchased a few things because I felt awkward just leaving and they were as bad as they looked

Small little bake shop for a birthday cupcake or freshly made donuts, pastries or cookies. I see lots of people grabbing coffee too. I’ve had their coffee once a long time ago… don’t really remember it much, too hooked on their food rather than their coffee. They have deals everyday for something or other. Just check them out. Staff is friendly enough, if you’re nice to them, they’ll be nice to you. I’ve never really had any issues. Got wrongly charged once but didn’t bother saying anything cause I realized it too late. I’m sure they would have rectified it had I said something… I’m trying to be more aware of what I’m paying so that I never have to complain of errors after the fact.

Very good cake, not so great customer service. The lady who helped me wasn’t very friendly but got the job done and my birthday guest were pleased at how tasty the cake was and I guess that’s all that matters at the end of the day. Strangely enough, after reading all these reviews, I actually feel BETTER knowing she wasn’t unfriendly to just me… Some people are friendly and happy some just aren’t…Understandable…Awesome cake will be returning!

I give this place 4 stars because the customer service was lacking and the prices are very high. Not that the lady was rude, but she was kind of neutral — she could have been more friendly. The prices will affect my decision to come back frequently. I was just in the neighborhood and saw this old looking bakery(which are usually the best) so decided to try it. The desserts were amazing. I ordered a box of the specialty cookies — all different kinds, all delicious! Then I got a cupcake… OMG my mouth is watering. Sooo good, it had a cream cheese stuffing in the middle and a rich chocolate cake and icing on the outside. I think this was the best cupcake I’ve had. It was perfect, not too sweet and not overloaded with a bunch of junk! I will be back for those cupcakes and to try a cup of coffee!

Old school bakery that makes everything on site. Great donuts, chocolate eclairs and the brownies are awesome! Fresh made everyday! Dunkin Donuts is not even in the same league as this place.

Kay’s Bakery is the only bakery I have used for the past 20 years that consistently produces as good or better than I can do in my own kitchen. The place is clean, the baked goods are fresh and delicious and, the staff is a delight to work with. What more could one want from the perfect bakery?

First, I must say, our family loves this place, but over the past 5 years has gone downhill. The bakery has good pastries if you are lucky enough to get them. By 8:00 on the weekdays, their shelves are almost empty and open until 5:00, they don’t ever replenish. Same on the weekends, consistently approx 10:00 the shelves are bare. If you are looking for donuts, you need to order them in advance otherwise you are out of luck! It is a shame that the best bakery in the area doesn’t seem like they want to stay in business. In addition to the shelves always being empty early in the day, their staff needs major customer service training. Nobody is helpful, smiles or seems like they appreciate your business. Gone are the days when Kay was there daily, even her daughter seems uninterested is keeping the doors open. If there is no interest in having daily treats available for walk ins and only want orders, post that so people stop wasting their time. People have been looking beyond the dirt, empty filthy cases and old décor for years, this business needs an overhaul in every way possible. Thank you for all your years of being such a wonderful bakery!

Kay’s has been the neighborhood staple. I came here after a long time, and that beautiful bakery smell went straight through my nose to my heart. The customer service isn’t great. While the woman at the front desk wasn’t mean, she was rather curt and I felt a little rushed. I walked out with a toasted coconut cake donut which was really really great, and what I was told was a cheese kolachke. The kolachke, to be completely honest, was really bad. It not only tasted stale, it was actually difficult to eat. Now, I hate wasting food, so no matter how I like my food, I finish it. This was the first time where I had actual difficulty finishing a pastry in front of me… And I usually love kolachke! On top of that, I was told that it was a cheese kolachke but it tasted like banana… In which case I would recommend and hope that front desk staff would put more mind into what they’re selling. That donut though… I’ll definitely be back!

My husband and I love their dougnuts. The rest of the shop though = pitiful. They have bakery cases that are grungy and empty and out in the open. Really out of date — that’s totally ok if they don’t go with the trends but come on! Fill your shelves! Just seemed ao empty and dull. :(

Always fresh and excellent quality. I just wish they sold donuts by the dozen. It’s a bit pricey if you need more than just a few.

Sooooo good! The red velvet cake(with cream cheese frosting) is to die for, the cookies are melt in your mouth. Try them without the frosting(that’s my fav, the kiddos like it sweeter). We’ve placed custom orders for birthday cakes over the years — always ready and delicious.

Wonderful place. Part of a dieing breed I’m afraid, that of the neighborhood bakery. The only place I go for a birthday cake. A Forest Park original fixture for as long as I’ve been in the area. I hope they never go the way of Circle Video or the Indian Convenience Store, but sweets have an economic value that is relatively immune to the ups and downs of the marketplace. :-) Always great smells coming out of there when I walk by early in the morning. If you’re in the area, THE only good place for pastries in town.

I was so grateful when I found out there was a bakery within walking distance that has paczki on paczki day! Got the apricot and raspberry and they were soooo freaking delicious. Their amazing aroma followed me all the way home. Heaven. Will probably be back later this month for Irish soda bread.

Before you read on — if this review was based on the donuts and pastries alone, it would get 5 stars. So delicious and always a huge hit! My complaint about this place is that I’ve gone in a handful of times to grab donuts for my office before work and by about 7:15am their donuts already seem to be almost gone or their selection seriously depleted. Also, if you plan on stopping in quickly to grab something fast in the morning before work or school you will have no such luck here. I’ve actually had to walk out before ordering a couple times now because it’s just taken too long. I hope that the bakery can beef up their staff so that more than one person is working the counter in the mornings and so that there’s some more help at night pumping out more of those delicious treats for the next day!

fresh pastries. street parking. Early hours. As good as it gets. They only allow credit cards with orders above $ 5.00 so just FYI! They have stuffed cupcakes, elephant ears, apple turnovers, butter cookies, donuts, and danishes.

Well, I was having a 40th birthday bash. This was going to be my first party and I was so excited! The week of the party, I was hit with every obstacle possible to the point that I almost had to cancel. The day before the party, I realized I hadn’t ordered my cake! YIKES! I am so glad that I didn’t pay attention to the reviews! The women at Kay’s were so kind and attentive! I wasn’t able to get the cake that I really wanted because it was such a short notice. So I opted for a plain yellow cake with whipped cream frosting. OMG! It was so fresh! My guests couldn’t get enough! This is definitely my new go to bakery!

I’ve lived by this bakery for years and the unimpressive appearance have deterred me from going in. It’s old and desolate looking. They don’t have a website or good marketing materials. What a shame since I just made the discovery that they’re really good! Their cupcakes are beautiful, delicious, creative flavors, and only $ 1.79 each! How cool is that? That easily beats out any fancy new bakery with expensive marketing and prices to match. The people who work there were friendly and helpful(kind of like old-fashioned servers at a diner). They faxed a list of their cupcake flavors to me, took my order over the phone, and had them ready for me to pick up in the morning. My coworkers LOVED their red velvet and quickly started incorporating Kay’s Bakery into their plans(e.g. I’m going to order cupcakes for this baby shower! or I’m going to order cupcakes for my husband’s birthday!). I’m sure that Kay’s has other baked goods as well, but I haven’t tried them… yet.
