I’ve put up with being followed around the store because they have a good selection of cards and gift wrap. I’ve even ignored it when the owner organized cards right next to me while I looked at and selected Father’s Day cards last year, and then when I moved to another aisle had him pop out of nowhere to ask«Don’t you need father’s day cards?» as if he didn’t notice I picked them out while he stood 2 inches from me and watched me do it. But unfortunately they lost my business when the owner kicked me out of the store because my 3 year old had a lollipop in her mouth. We weren’t even near the cards, we were in the front looking at the toys, right by where they sell candy.

This is our go-to store for gift boxes, tissue paper, cards and cute toys for kids and adults. The staff is nice and always helpful and the assortment is varied and interesting. They also sell balloons, stickers, candy, stuffed toys and the kind of wacky stuff that makes me smile. I always check our what’s on sale. GO!

Man, reading these reviews gave me a headache. What is wrong people, this is a local card store where you can get balloons, stuffed animals, knick knacks etc. I happen to know the owner very well. Yes, if you are not a regular he may come off as rude, but the man is a hard working immigrant who is teaching his kids the value of a hard days work, as opposed to collecting unemployment like so many of us Americans do. Folks, again, it’s a card store. I’ve bought many birthday, wedding, christening cards etc. here, and they were priced accordingly. So, lighten up on the harshness. I can tell you as someone who’s lived in Forest Hills for close to 50 years, that Markwordt’s is what it is– a nice card store run by a fine immigrant family.

The owner of this store treats his customers with contempt. I’m surprised it’s still in business, especially since I’m not the only person who was mistreated at this store, based on the other reviews. I had some time to spare before dropping off my son at a class so we went in to browse. Apparently browsing is not allowed at this establishment. The owner asked me if I needed help, and when I told him that I was just looking, he made up a ridiculous rule that people were not allowed to look until 10 am in the morning! Then he proceeded to yell over to the woman behind the register, «She’s JUST looking!» I left, passing by 2 people, who were also browsing. Started to suspect that either he dislikes minority customers in his store or he doesn’t want kids in there. Or maybe it was both. I was tempted to return at 10 am to walk around aimlessly in his store just to irk him but I had better things to do.

The middle/old worker owner is extremely racist and rude!!! I had to walk out he was rude when I asked him if he had beach stuff and demanded I leave my bag by the cashier. Every other woman in there whom ironically Caucasian had bags just as big as mine in the store how disgusting and rude

The owner is Antisemetic. Repeatedly has told women shopping how the Jews are cheap most recently today by a woman carrying Xmas cards but asking about a Chanukah item. He told her no he didnt have anything and his reason was… «this is what the Jewish people always want.» He then continued to say that they only want to buy the .99 cent items. I said we’ll I am Jewish and he then looked down at the cards I was holding and said«see, you only want to buy the .99cent items.» Apparently he said similar things to another woman last year, who after hearing this incident shared her experience when shopping with her mother. Don’t shop at this bigots store.

Little stationary store that sells hallmark cards, candy, balloons, and a bunch of other little junk. I came in here for passport pictures. It’s cheap and quick compared to getting passport pictures taken at Rite Aide, CVS, Duane Reade, or Walgreens. Pros — Convenient location and quick passport pictures Cons — Too much made in china crap. They sell a lot of little gifts, toys, and just stuff that nobody buys. They also do photocopying but their machine was busted when I went. Mad difficult to find parking. Verdict — If you’re in a rush for passport pics, I would just come here.

A Hallmark chain franchise owned by Markwordt that bears his name situated in the most commercial street of Forest Hills. This Hallmark doubles as a stationery greeting card retailer plus a deli that carries cold drinks of soda and water, photocopying services, toys and balloons for parties. With time to spare prior to my pressing appointment nearby backed by a very dried mouth that is induced by in-taking a stale flaky Éclair from a nearby bakery, I sought refugee for a bottle of water. The male owner/manager exercise a whole lot of blowing smoke to hype one particular brand, Nestle: «that’s our BEST selling bottled water, it is the GREATESTANDBEST!!» which portrays his ignorance of humility. However, I was hoping for the standard Poland who as a patron free will to choose do not exist at Markwordt’s Hallmark. Eek… go to Staples for photocopying services, go to Duane Reade or Rite Aid(both within mere distance) for soda or water. Upon payment for this single 16.9 oz. Nestle water bottle at $ 1.00, I requested for a business card which the woman cashier abruptly interjected a brash«NO» without further-ado. The cashier’s rude abrupt response manner projected her final ultimatum to my crime for requesting a measly business card. AIJA, is inquiring a simple request imply what horrific fate awaits for my consequences?!! This week has been full of abject PAIN. Further, the same dude strongly stated his dismay in a rude and extreme brash tone of my photographing the façade of the signage. I lash a response to attain a photographic memory of this location should I desire a return visit as I do NOT have a business card. Ergo, the owner/manager immediately rectify the abject error to distribute a 2012 datebook calendar with their contact information. He also noted to disclose the female cashier’s nonexistent English oral skills.
