I was pleasantly suprised by this awesome little museum. It is expertly maintained and by far my favorite place in Forbestown. I look forward to visiting with my children in the future. I may even volunteer there someday as it is that great of a place. If you are in the area you should definitely check it out. I believe its open on the weekends from 12 – 4 but check to make sure it’s open before you travel here. Also, make sure to bring lunch or stop before you get to Forbestown… The only store in town is only open sometimes and the owner is a real piece of work.

The Yuba Feather Museum is FANTASTIC. What a surprising little gem. You come into the little entry area, and it looks like it is just two rooms with a history of the area. So, we went through those rooms and learned about the many small communities that made up this area during the gold rush. There are great pictures and lots of information about industry and life in the area. Then, I noticed there were stairs. There is a «hotel» exhibit upstairs and a newspaper office exhibit downstairs — both of which are well done. But, you are not done. Go downstairs and out the back door — BOOM! This is where the museum sets itself apart. They have built a model town in the back of the museum to demonstrate life in the area — there is a stagecoach station, a sheriff’s station, a miner’s shanty, a mayor’s house, a stage, a mercantile, a general store, a post office, a saloon, a church, a school, and barber shop. It’s probably more than four times the size of the museum and is very impressive! I would highly recommend coming to this little museum to see what life was like in the area during the gold rush. The docents are enthusiastic, knowledgable and friendly. You will not be disappointed. FYI: Cell phone service in the area is abhorrent. So, print out a map in advance and don’t rely upon GPS.
