I’m not going to on at length about this place. I will just say save your time, money and heartache and go to your local shelter. There the staff and the kitty are excited for you to have a new family member. ANY organization that puts people through such a lengthy «not personal» process only to give away pets at a PET STORE should not be trusted or given the time of day.

We got our kitty at this place and still keep in touch with Jeannie –the adoption coordinator more than a year later with photos and updates. She is amazing! She is truly dedicated to helping and saving animals and spends an enormous amount of time and energy to make sure the kitties get a good home. The only issue we had during the adoption is one of the kitties was sick with a parasite and it infected our other kitties when we brought him home but the rescue provided us with medication for free to treat all the kitties. It was a relatively hard to spot condition that only exhibits itself as diarrhea so in a rescue setting might be hard to identify. In any case, we didn’t hold it against them. Jeannie has also in the past sent us coupons for pet products that we may like, which has been appreciated. We like to stop by just to say hello to her and see all the kitties that are up for adoption each week. All in all I do really feel that this rescue tries very hard to make good placements. I do wish though that their rules would change slightly when it has to do with meeting potential animals to adopt. I do remember feeling a bit annoyed about filling out a lengthy application before being able to meet any of the kitties at all but I’m sure there are reasons for this practice. It could prevent people from going through with wanting to adopt from here since the process is a bit complex. The kitty that we have adopted has been a joy to us and it’s been really great to regularly see stories of other successful adoptions from other people who send photos on the rescue’s Facebook page.

While I have not adopted a cat from them, my friend has. What a friendly place and they keep the cages so clean. Whenever I drop by the kitties are all cozy in their blankets sleeping or playing with the toys. The food and water dishes are always full, so I know they never go hungry. I like when the volunteers have them in the room so we can watch them play. Great job everyone!

This is for forever home cat rescue south. I found them while looking for a maine coon kitten. It was a bit confusing on their website, but this place keeps their kittens with foster caretakers who bring them out to pet stores. You have to put in an application, which they SUPPOSEDLY review. Ok. We filled out their insanely lengthy application with hammy questions designed to gauge if you’ll declaw or get rid of your cat at some point, and whether you’ve thought through vet services and things of the sort. They also essentially force you to consent to a house visit if you want to adopt one of their pets. They said the application process takes 3 – 4 days typically, but may be processed faster on the weekends.
We filled out an application on August 7^th, at which point we were asked if we had a particular cat in mind. We said we figured that we would meet the cats and see which we liked. We asked if any of the kittens we were interested in were at pet shops that weekend, and received a rudely phrased response that we’d need to be approved first (seriously if they’re already at petsmart or something, why do I need to be approved before visiting the cats?). Possibly a misunderstanding, they might have thought we wanted to take one home that day. I clarified that we didn’t expect that, but just wanted to meet them to know who to apply for, and received in response «Actually you still need to wait for an answer about your application before setting up a meet & greet.» What the hell?
Here we are, it’s August 31^st and I STILL haven’t heard back. Not a word. Do they WANT to adopt cats out or not? They really need someone with a lot more tact and follow through manning their email. My experience with them was a ⁰⁄₅. I’m glad they want to make sure potential owners know what they’re getting into, but shame on them for the rest.

My Boyfriend and I adopted a beautiful and cute Orange Tabby Cat from here on 2÷13÷15! I saw him the week before when I was in there shopping and I just fell in love. I have owned Cat’s for over 20 years. My boyfriend and I just moved into an apartment and wanted a cat since he loves my parents cats. I put in an application and got a call the next day from Jeannie to come in for an interview. My boyfriend and I went to the interview and got to be introduced to the cat. She loved my experience not just with cats but with other animals as well and that I have worked with adoptions with a different cat rescue through Petsmart a few years ago. I fostered some kittens and brought them there and they were adopted out. He was to be strictly an indoor only cat since all of my others have been indoor only! Our new kitty was playing with us and giving us little licks and sat in our laps. What was cute was when we opened up the carrier he went right in and lay down! He knew we were going to be his new forever cat parents! Jeannie helped us get what we needed and more! She sure is a wonderful person!

Update #2. It took 3 weeks to finally hear back from someone. I finally had to get Pet Smart Management involved, who with their help, finally someone called. We had, of course, been denied. Their reasoning was they didn’t believe we would keep the cat as an indoor cat even though we had insisted we would. (my husband was even going to build an outdoor screened in area protected from the elements, so our cat could get some sunshine, but be protected) It is also because we live in a high wildlife area and they were uncomfortable with that. Save yourself stress, upset and grief by not going through this rescue and go to the local animal shelters who need us to rescue them more. (they don’t get the exposure, like these cats at Pet Smart). I will follow through with complaints to Pet Smart corporate and the Office of the Calif Attorney General to investigate this non profit. I suspect that donations (with Pet Smart exposure) is more important than a safe, loving home for these cats. The cats suffer and remain in their cages, and that breaks my heart. Love to you my sweet kitty, I hope your future home is as good as we could have given to you!

If I could give them no stars I would. I have been a cat owner my entire life, I grew up with cats and have a current one right now that is beautiful and healthy. We have been visiting this place for 6 months and finally fell in love with a cat, so we put in an application and waited at the store for the lady to finish the people in front of us and when she did they took home a cute grey kitten.
Finally it was our turn and we sat down for the interview and interactive with the cat, as we were going through the interview we were honest that our previous cats have been strictly indoor and they were declawed in the front only just to prevent tearing up the furniture. I understand now it seems inhumane but we never did it to be malicious and we know what vet to trust and what age to do it and the healing process, at least we were honest, it’s a controversial subject we know, hearing that she said we had to go to the next step and it was management decision. well there application says you will hear in 24 hours, we didn’t hear until a week later and we got a vm from an unknown number saying we had been denied and it’s not their policy you should try a shelter. First of all throughout the week we called the number and no one ever answers and sent email, what frustrates me was we couldn’t even negotiate with them. We fell in love with that cat and we were ok with claws we were going to keep them.
I went today and the adoptions started at 5pm I got there at 5:24 and she already had him with another couple and they adopted. It infuriates me that they took so long to get back to us not even honoring their application but want you to abide by it. Honestly the worst customer service every. The lady who we interviewed with once told us a story she placed a cat with a family and they brought it back two weeks later because it didn’t get along with their other cat. Obviously you can’t judge someone on a measly interview or piece of paper because every cat owner who has had more then one knows it takes time for them to adjust. Anyways we’ll never support this company even donation wise I wouldn’t support them, I get you want them to have a good home but you don’t know where they are going unless you do house checks which we were all for. I guess it pays to be honest.

I adopted a sweet, cute cat from them. However, I had a question and needed to talk with them. I left 4 voice mail messages and never got a call back. The messages were left over a month long period. Once you buy a cat from them, don’t expect to be able to reach them if you have questions. The cat is fine, and I no longer need to talk to them. Would be a better business if they cared enough to pick up the phone after you adopt.
