If you’re looking for something above fast food this is it. Brisket was flavorless(even with bbq sauce) & fatty(it was tender though) Quantity 60% of what it should have been. Extra meat would double the price. I’ve had much better. Should never leave a restaurant still hungry.

So disappointing. Mid week stop around 5pm. The place was deserted. Ordered food to go. Got home to discover average brisket, rancid potato salad, and questionably fresh beans. The meal went in the garbage. I had high hopes but it was bad enough to warrant 1 star and no second chances.

ABSOLUTELYTHEBESTBBQEVER. We have been looking and looking for a good southern bbq place and found this gem. The sauce is the best I’ve tasted, the beans were the bomb but the collard greens were off the hook awesome. Ribs were so tender and so flavorful and fall of the bone. I will NEVER get bbq anywhere else. *side note* just wish your cornbread was served warm and you had better napkins. Oh and incredibly low prices.

Had the 3 rib lunch special, great food for a reasonable price. Clean establishment with great vibes. I will come back again

Just ok. My brisket was very dry and hard. They most likely sliced before hand and microwave. Beans and Mac and cheese sides were good but I did not enjoy my main meal. Where can I get really good smoked brisket?

Been craving good BBQ for months now, today I was finally satisfied. Hands down the best BBQ Sauce I’ve ever had with such great service. Love the food, we’ll definitely be back!

I don’t write reviews often but this place absolutely deserved it. This is the best BBQ place I’ve ever been to. Even better than anything I’ve had in the south. The staff was the friendliest. I was greeted as soon as I walked in and treated like family the whole time. Even better, the food was absolutely delicious!!! The ribs were perfect, the fried corn was amazing and the mac & cheese was the best I’ve ever eaten. It’s nice this place is tucked away like a little secret because when I came for lunch it wasn’t even busy. All I have to say is wow!

I had the 3 rib lunch special. Comes with 3 ribs a bag of chips and a drink. My husband probably would have laughed at me for only ordering 3 ribs because he knows how I can eat. :) These ribs were delicious… Fell off the bone and the sauce was good! Yes I was still hungry after the 3 ribs so I ordered the single serving sweet potato pie that is also made in house. Yummy! If you want to take the sauce home they do bottle it and sell it here..

I got the two meat plate: ribs and a chicken breast, fried corn and Mac n cheese. Got it to go, came home, walked the dogs and everything was still piping hot when I opened up the box. Sauce was sweet with a spicy kick, ribs and chicken were tender and juicy. Sides were well seasoned and very tasty. Customer service was friendly and helpful. I’ll definitely be back to try everything else.

To be perfectly honest, I don’t typically eat meat. So what’s a non-meat eater doing in a joint like this? Honoring my daughter’s pig worship! My kids and husband shared the ribs(a specialty) and they found the sauce was very tasty, along with tender meat with just a hint of smoke. The sauce was a bit too tangy for my taste, but I believe that’s intended to cut through the fat of the meat. For me, though, I’ll be back for the sides. I had some yummy macaroni and cheese and fried corn. They were scrumptious! The truth in that statement was when my meat loving husband went for seconds on the sides to try to figure out how to make that corn at home.

My friend and I shared a full rack of BBQ pork ribs with collard greens and baked beans as sides. The ribs were ridiculous. So tender they fell of the bone like warm butter on a hot knife. The sauce was perfect in it’s southern sweetness. The collard greens were delicious and authentic, and the baked beans were fantastic. The only thing missing was corn bread and some spicy heat. With two soft drinks our bill was $ 35. It wasn’t very busy as we were there early in the afternoon on Saturday. The service was absolutely fantastic. My friend came in wearing all white and the girls thought she was really brave. They offered, and she accepted, an apron to wear while eating. I should have worn the apron instead. One of a kind food with good laughs and friendly down home service. doesn’t get any better than that.

We desperately wanted to like this BBQ joint, but the food quality was disappointing. Let me say upfront that service was wonderful. The young lady who took our orders was also the one who had to run back and forth to the kitchen and bring food to the tables. She was upbeat, friendly, responsive, and very pleasant. This review would have been a one star if it weren’t for her good work — so credit where credit’s due. Here is why we won’t be returning for the food: — The brisket was fatty to the point of being spongy. I have always preferred fattier cuts, but this was too much even for me, especially considering it’s brisket. — The ribs were standard, and would have been on par except that there was just too much sauce which drowned everything else out. The sides were weak too: — The corn bread was clearly pre-fab — it was too dry and too dense. There was also no butter for the cornbread, just Country Crock(as the young lady told us). — The potato salad won’t be to everyone’s taste. I get that they tried to make it somewhat unique by adding cumin or tumeric — something that adds a curry flavor to the salad. I was OK with it, but my companion(a big fan of potato salads in general) hated it. And finally, a small but not insignificant detail — no wet wipes for your hands after the meal. Yes, we could wash our hands in the bathroom, but wet wipes would have been a very helpful addition at a low cost. I always want to support small local restaurants, and I would not want this restaurant to go away. Unfortunately, it’s just not the kind of BBQ we could enjoy.

I really, really, really wanted to like this place. But everything tasted boiled and drowned in sauce. Well, at least the ribs and brisket tasted boiled. I didn’t try any of their other meats. I was hugely disappointed. But their sides are really good. Added star for the sides. Especially their corn! I would come back just for for their corn, I’d just avoid any of the«barbecue» meat. Their mac & cheese is really good and creamy too. Service is also very friendly.

The barbecue gods are slowly descending on the Sacramento region. Boucaine’s in central Folsom was on my list for a while, so a recent Unilocal event nearby was a perfect excuse to sample some smoked animals. Their location is hidden in plain sight in the DMV shopping center under a simple BBQ sign. Inside however, the restaurant is well decorated with nice colors and soft music more reminiscent of a French bistro than a BBQ joint. The menu is basic — meats and sides with sandwich options. I opted for the French Quarter combo(2+2 combo) with ribs, brisket, fried corn, and potato salad. If I was not preparing for sampling lots of food later, I would have sampled the mac and cheese. The meats were prepared very well. Boucaine’s is heavy on the smoke with a simple dry rub and no mop. Their addicting sauce was smoky sweet in the KC style and applied for each order; you must tell them to not add sauce or if you want spicy. I was unable to try it without the sauce, but it looked like a standard California rub with heavy smoke. Some of the brisket was sliced lengthwise which had a different texture than cutting against the grain. Both the brisket and pork ribs were very good with excellent texture and flavor, with the exception of the different cut brisket. The sides were also pretty good. Their fried corn was very good with a lot of flavor and crunch. I liked their potato salad, but the opportunity cost may be too great compared to choosing cornbread or mac and cheese. They use a counter-order, table-delivery system which is a nice option, however the menu is a little challenging to understand quickly. Fortunately, you will be rewarded with justifiably one of the best barbecue options in the region — hidden in central Folsom!

This hole in the wall place has some of the best BBQ in Folsom. It is a small restaurant in a strip plaza next to DMV and if it wasn’t for my co-worker taking me here I would have never found it. I am glad he did because I am now a regular. lol The food is great as the BBQ is slow cooked and you can’t go wrong with anything. From the smokey flavored pulled pork, fall off the bone ribs, tender brisket, and delicious BBQ chicken it’s all great. They have a wide variety of tasty sides as well and some of my favorites are their southern potato salad & housemade Baked Beans with brisket. No BBQ joint is complete without a sweet tea on the menu and theirs is on point with the food. A unique item they have(which is now my usual) is their Pulled Pork Taco’s. They blend the traditional taco with southern BBQ feel into one which makes for an amazing taco!

OMG… we had the Family dinner w/four sides. unbelievable!!! We’ve eaten, supposedly at the BESTBBQ in Austin, TX&THIS place is 10x better y’all. Ribs are absolutely fallin’ off the bone, moist, tasty, a little kick. The sides(we had beans, potato salad & cornbread) were phenomenal. EATHERE is all we can say. Molly the waitress was also terrific.

In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king… So there’s dickeys bbq… And Boucane’s. So relative to the local non-competition, it’s great! That’s my only theory on why it’s so highly rated. I had the tri tip, it was some meet(good bbq sauce) in a huge roll. Tasted like a mouthful of bread. For the price, I expected more meat. Furthermore, the cornbread required a spoon to eat(see pic). And this was my second visit, so it’s been consistent.

It’s not often we get a chance to have lunch together during the week. Today, a last minute date, turned to Unilocal, and found Boucane’s Smokehouse. Located on a corner in a not-so-congested part of Folsom at the end of E Bidwell, this joint is located in a strip mall a few doors down from DMV. The smell of smoked goodness immediately as you step in through door. The main menu board in front of you and the specials to the right. Order at the counter and pick a table and have a seat. Meats include brisket, pulled pork, tri-tip, chicken(bone in), turkey, and hot link. Choose a presentation(plate, combo, or sandwich). Add a side. Don’t forget dessert. 1) Boucane Plate(choice of meat and 2 small sides) — brisket, cole slaw, and mac ‘n cheese 2) Pulled Pork sandwich with a side of cole slaw If you remember, I strongly suggest you order your sauce on the side and choose from their regular or spicy sauce. We didn’t do this I prefer the meat to shine over the sauce. In this case, the sweetness amount of sauce over the brisket was more than I prefer. my fault. However, the brisket was delicious. I reached across and snagged some pork from her sandwich. Very good. The meats get an «A» The mac ‘n cheese was a bit pasty and the pasta overcooked. It may be a result of continuing to cook while kept hot before serving. Not great but I will try it again to check if this experience is normal. The cole slaw was bright but slightly too vinegar-y; good if you like your slaw less sweet less creamy and more softly dressed and zingy, like we do. I will definitely be back and this place is so easy to get to and from. In fact, stop in while you’re waiting for your number to be called at DMV. Overall, a bbg smokehouse lunch for 2 came in at $ 25. If you can remember only one thing, sauce on the side(which is my usual at any bbq).

Came here for a business trip and found the closest thing to me at the moment. Pulled Pork Sandwich — So juicy and big. Very delicious. I know I was starving but damn that was good. They definitely need a place like this in the bay area!

I had no idea from looking at the outside of the nondescript strip — mall exterior that the inside was nicely decorated and welcoming. The charm certainly didn’t end with the décor. All the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. I was here on a Saturday afternoon around 2 pm. There was only one other party dining. My husband and I shared a three meet plate with ribs, brisket, and pulled pork with fried corn and cole slaw for sides. The portions were a little small but there was an adequate amount for us to share. All the meat was very good. Not dry and not too much barbecue sauce with a nice smoke flavor. I like the pulled pork the best. The sides were good, but small. They also have baked good, I didn’t try any but they looked good and if they are anything like their other food, probably quite tasty.
