I went today and got three tarts: Portuguese(1.50), milk(1.50), and cheese(2.00). I took the cheese one out right away, and I noticed the edge was burnt. I went back and asked for another one, and I was given the same one back… even though she claimed it was a different one. No matter how the food is, customer experience is integral.

I came here because I read that they have the best egg tart in all of Flushing. I personally can’t contribute to that conversation because this was my first time having an egg tart, but I can definitely say that they are good! My Chinese friend and I both preferred the Portuguese egg tart(less egg flavor, caramelized sugar on top, and a hint of cinnamon) over the classic egg tart, but both are solid choices.

These egg tarts are the best ones you can get outside of HK! Must try the Portuguese egg tarts(a regular egg tart with a brûlée egg custard). On the weekends, the location inside New World Mall has a variety of unique flavors: mango, green tea, lemon, apricot, coffee, red bean, lotus seed, and the list goes on! Their coconut tarts are also very yummy!

It’s been so long since I’ve had an egg tart… Likes years… I grew up eating them in Chinatown as a kid! I came in around 6:30pm so they were pretty much out of everything. Just a few items left really; they had some coconut egg tarts and just enough HK style egg tarts for me to get 4 for $ 5. Also got a cookie for $ 1.25, it was eh… come for the egg tarts. L doesn’t normally care for egg tarts, but he thought these were really good. The custard was smooth and silky and the perfect amount of sweetness. The crust was flaky, but not dry. 2 egg tarts make a nice dessert. I doubt I would like the Portuguese egg tarts since Im not a fan of caramelized sugar; regardless if I ever manage to get here early enough, I’ll try to get a couple.

Love this bakery. 1) This place is excellent for egg tart. 2) The prices are very low. 3) Service is pretty fast. 4) One of the few places in the mall where the workers spoke little English.

OMG! If there’s anything that would get me back on the local 7 from grand central to Flushing Main Street — it would be for the egg tarts here! 18 stops and 35 mins is not a deterrent even if I am only here as a visitor. This small stall is on the left side of escalator as you go up to JMart supermarket in the new world shopping mall off the Main Street entrance. These have to be hands down the best egg tarts and Portuguese custard tarts that I have ever had. At $ 1.50 each I wish I had purchased more. The Hong Kong style egg custard is not as sweet as most of the ones I’ve had before which is fine by me. The custard is smooth and silky and tastes light if you can believe that. The Portuguese egg custard is the hands down winner! This is one of those items that will pop up in my food memory every once and a while — that’s when I know something is that good. The custard is so ridiculously silky smooth it’s like the texture of panna cotta. There’s the sweetness that comes from the caramelized sugar on top. It’s like eating the best crème brûlée in a flakey tart shell. Soooo yum! The tarts all have the perfect light flakey texture which really makes these tarts that good. Perfect custard and perfect tart crust. Like most places in Chinatown it’s cash only!

I bought the Portuguese and Hong Kong style egg tarts for science.* The questions in question: are these really the best egg tarts in NYC? Which style is better? The hypothesis: it’s possible, but that doesn’t mean it’ll be mindblowingly good since this isn’t China. But if they’re yummy, the frequency of my Flushing treks will experience a significant rise. The results: both egg tarts had the same crust, which was nothing to write home about, but didn’t have any glaring defects. The crust was flaky and a tad buttery. Maybe it would’ve been better if I had gotten them fresh from the oven – the ones I bought looked like they’d been sitting in the display case for a while. The Portuguese custard was lovely. Sweet, but not too sweet, and baked to the perfect consistency where it tasted like the custard had just gelled together. On the other hand, all I can say about the Hong Kong egg tart is that it’s basically tasteless. The verdict: well, they’re better than Fay Da egg tarts, but definitely not worth a trek. If you’re getting on/off the 7, have $ 1.50 burning a hole in your pocket, and there’re no hungry homeless people around, go for it. Otherwise, you can find better sweets in Flushing. *disclaimer: I slept through most of my science classes and pretty much have no idea how experiments work

These were so delicious! I grew up eating the egg custards in Chinatown(NYC and Boston) and always considered those my standard. Even after making my own a few times(they were pretty good, if I don’t say so myself), these were on another level! We bought 4 for $ 5(2 Portuguese, 2 traditional), and the crust was perfectly flaky and buttery. My favorite part — the inside — was the perfect texture and just the right amount of sweet. The best egg custard I’ve ever had! FOOD: 5⁄5 ENVIRONMENT: 3⁄5 SERVICE: 3⁄5 VALUE: 4.5÷5 OVERALL: 4.5÷5

Yummy! The egg tarts are sooo good! The crust on these are layers of light, yummy, goodness. I’ve tried the following egg tarts: –Portuguese egg tart($ 1.50): OMG, the Portuguese egg tarts are to die for. Just the perfect amount of sweet, custard-cream egg filling, all on light layers of crust. –Hong Kong egg tart($ 1.50): pretty good. I wished it was a little sweeter like they sell at Golden Gate Bakery in San Francisco. But overall, a good tart with its creamy center. –Mango with tapioca($ 1.50): really good. I’m not normally a fan of new, western, influenced flavors, but this was surprisingly really good. Not too sweet, good mango flavor, and the tapioca is a nice touch. –Milk custard($ 1.50): meh. Not good, not bad. Forgettable. –Papaya($ 1.50): good. –Green tea with tapioca($ 1.50): okay. –Portuguese egg tart with mixed fruit($ 1.50): no thanks. –Cocktail bun($ 1.25): good. –Pineapple bun with coconut($ 1.25): really good. This place is intended as take out only and is on the second floor. This place is wheelchair/stroller friendly assuming there is an elevator. We always use the escalator, and it leads us right there. Cash only.

Don Tots of all sorts!!! My favorite is the portugese style as well as the ginger milk, the custard is soft but filled with aromas, the crust is buttery, flakey, and very loose. They have a $ 5 for 4 special which I always get suckered into getting even if I only wanted one. Being a Hong Konger, this egg tart spot is on point! A must try in Flushing.(Keep in mind there are no tables, not even a standing area to eat. Take it to go but eat it while it is warm!)

The best egg tart shop in Flushing belongs to this little shop located in J MART. Tons of unique different flavors to choose from like green tea, sweet potato, mango, pineapple, egg, milk, Portuguese, etc. You can mix and match 4 tarts for $ 5. My favorite was the mango! Get them in the mornings when they’re are still hot! They also serve coffee, iced drinks, and hot lemon honey.

The egg tarts here are delicious. We had a traditional egg tart and a milk one. The milk egg tart added a nice level of creaminess, but both were delicious. The service is super fast as you simply pick and choose your options and then find a place to eat. I’d recommend going into the mall and the lower level food court. It was $ 3 for two tarts.

This place probably makes the best egg tarts I’ve ever had! I don’t usually crave egg tarts, but I almost always crave these lol They’re not in the basement like all the other vendors and it’s tucked away near the Main Street entrance as you enter the supermarket. You might miss it at first, but it’s literally to the left when you get off the escalator. They have such a large variety and very inexpensive too. They have the classic egg tart and some unique ones like red bean, green tea, mango, etc,. I’ve yet to try them all, but so far, I don’t think any of them can beat the classic egg tart, since it’s something I grew up with. They’re $ 1.25 each, and if you buy 3, you get 1 one free.

As soon as you walk into the supermarket(through the entrance next to a parking lot) you will smell the heavenly scent of their yummy egg custards and probably see a crowd of people. This super small bakery(it’s a stand) has the best egg custards I’ve ever tried. They used to have some buy 3 get 1 deal but it’s more expensive now T_T. Currently, it’s buy 4 for $ 5 which is still an affordable price. Ok now on to the egg custards… Green Tea: A little disappointed because I didn’t taste green tea, but still a very good custard. Coffee: I love any dessert with coffee flavoring so this one was a win. Buttermilk: OHHELLYES Portuguese: OHHEEEELLLLLLLYESSSSSSSSS Regular: You can never go wrong with the OG. TL;DR: Get a friend or two, a sweet tooth, and $ 5THENEAT

Because I did not ACTUALLY eat their stuff because apparently it is self serving service or that they were closed, I’m going to leave it at 3 stars until I do. ***Refer to my photo*** Now, they could have been closed for the night although on their Unilocal page listing their hours were far from that at the time which I came by. They still have egg tarts on display and plenty of it so that is another indication that they were still open. The guy or girl could have just stepped out to the loo which is on the other side of the mall but then wouldn’t it make sense to post something like«BRB in 15 minutes» or «Restroom Break»? Also, to get to this bakery you MUST either enter through the Main street entrance which is by Foot Locker and right after the pizza shop and drive in entrances leading to basement parking for cars. If you walked by and you’re by the subway entrance, YOUHAVEWALKEDTOOFAR. It is before that. The second way to get there which isn’t necessarily easier is to WALKTHROUGHTHESUPERMARKET(there is only one supermarket in that mall) ANDGODOWNTHEESCALATORSBYTHEBACKCASHIERS. There is a front cashiers which handles to payment closest to the entrance on Roosevelt Avenue. GOTOWARDSTHEBACKESCALATORS. I was really looking forward to trying a variety of egg tarts as raved by Unilocalers but I guess I will have to try them another day. Sad.

Situated in New World Mall by the supermarket on the ground level. The baked item to get here by far is the egg tart, portuguese egg tart, and the pineapple buns. Small booth but quick service to provide these delectable baked items. The egg tart is custardy and baked well with great flavor. It’s a flakey crust which is what egg tarts should be. The portuguese tarts have a browned up top which gives it a caramel flavor. Go for the pineapple buns as well. Soft buns with a crisp pineapple top. Great for snacks.

OH Portuguese Egg Tarts, I heart thee! So they raised the price. It used to be $ 1.25 per egg tart but it is now $ 1.50 each. Good thing they still have the buy 3 get 1FREE deal. Anyway, I would continue to buy their scrumptious egg tarts even if they raise the price up to $ 2.00 each! This shows you how crazy in love I am for their egg tarts. WHY I LOVEIT? They are… ~More creamy filling and custard-like ~Perfect texture ~Not heavy or oversweet ~Flaky crust that crisp up ~Edges are toasty and browned ~Melts in your mouth ~High quality pastry ~Fresh from the oven ~Best eaten when it is warm I know this bakery makes different flavor egg tarts but my heart still belongs to the Portuguese Egg Tart! The one and only delectable Portuguese Egg Tart! Note: These egg tarts are good to bring over to a family or friend’s home. Why not share the deliciousness? *winks

The egg tarts at New Flushing Bakery ranks as my favorite egg tart in flushing. They have the flakiest, softest, creamiest egg tarts I ever ate and brings pure joy in every bite. However in order to enjoy it, you have to ignore the fact on how unhealthy it could be because the flakier the crust means the more butter it has. At buy 3 get 1 free, it sorta softens the fact it is one of the pricier egg tarts in the city but it’s worth it once in a while for this indulgence. My biggest gripe comes in their mediocre buns and stingy practices. For example, their cha siu bun might look plump and round but it’s 80% air. Stick with the egg tarts here

I don’t see what the big deal is here. I am a big fan of egg tarts aka don tot, but I only like the mini version you get from reputable dim sum places. The ones at dim sum places have a great shell and a nice, non eggy filling. I have yet to find a decent big sized egg tart. The one here was still warm when I got it, but I thought it was too sweet. Also, this place is a tiny spot inside the supermarket, not the food court. The food: Portuguese Egg Tart– The egg tarts are the thing to get here and I wasn’t all that impressed with the tarts. The first bite I got was a weird caramel taste to the egg tart and then got hit with the overly sweet filling. The tart itself was flaky, but the structural integrity of the tart needed better construction as the filling was too heavy for the tart to hold. Also, my biggest pet peeve regarding the filling was the eggy feeling when I was eating it, it was very off putting. Hong Kong Egg Tart– Since I bought the Portuguese one, might as get the Hong Kong one as well. I was equally unimpressed with this one. The filling was off for me, it felt more like sweet potato pie filling than a custard for an egg tart. I thought the filling was too sweet as well. There was also the damn eggy taste again. I wasn’t impressed.

Hello, egg tart of my dreams. Where did you come from? Sometimes life casually tosses not lemons, but pleasant surprises into your lap — that is, if you are so lucky or tenacious to be at the right place at the right time, armed with an open mind and ready taste buds. The exterior of the Portuguese egg tart is promising: delicately caramelized surface of the richest, creamiest custard, which rests in a crust that can only be described as perfectly flakey. The custard is very much like the crème brulee after you’ve cracked the shell with the culinary weapon of your choice. This is not your gelatinous egg custards of TaiPan with a distinctly«eggy» taste. This is much more of a dessert — it’s sweet. You should like sweet things if you expect to enjoy this treat. The density of the custard is thicker than the typical dan tat, and oddly light at the same time. It has a bit of the magical fluffiness of successful soufflé centers, and the grounded down-to-earth consistency of panna cotta. The flavors are of slightly burnt caramel, vanilla, maple. Having experienced such unexpected and unparalleled joy(at least when it comes to the very finite universe of egg tarts), the I found myself exhibiting similar symptoms to having fallen in love. Daydreaming while in the clutches of the mundane, day-to-day. Getting tongue-tied around my friends(«you guys have to try these amazing egg tahts!» — accidentally fusing«egg tart» and«dan tat», and sounding suddenly Bostonian). Realizing upon first bite that a part of me had always known, even in the midst of disappointing encounters, that such a thing of perfection was out there. Suppressing the irresistible desire to gush to anyone within earshot. If you want to get metaphysical about it, conceivably, every mediocre-to-bad egg tart experience of my past could have merely been preparing me to meet this one. Hello, again. I’m glad I found you.
