I LOVE this place — the price is right and the hot pot and shaved ice are so good! It’s very spacious as well, and we have never had to wait — even with large groups up to 15 – 20. Tell me, Unilocalland — is it open again? Please say it is! I have been waiting for the renovations to be done. My friend and I’s half birthday is right around the corner, and we need to celebrate there again!

I came here for their Taiwanese shaved ice and there’s separate seating for just Taiwanese shaved ice at the front of the restaurant separate from their shabu shabu. This place is spacious. The condensed milk is a must get for the Taiwanese shaved ice. There are many toppings to choose from, such as pineapple, red bean, taro, tapioca, and more.

TIP: CLOSEDFORRENOVATION Whatever happened to the quick tips feature on Unilocal?I am using the iPad app and cannot find it. Anyway, we really wanted to try this place, because it looked interesting(with all the neon lights and name we thought it was a nightclub at first LOL.). We were told it was good, but it is closed for renovations!

Thank you, Ice Fire Land for helping me score some much needed brownie points with your Taiwanese ice. After a not so great Taiwanese dinner nearby, guy friend wasn’t too sold on ‘Taiwanese’ fare. We ordered our ice with condensed milk, red bean and yam balls. He loved it(phew). I loved it so much that I came back for dinner the following week. The individual hot pots here are awesome. You can select your choice of entrée/meat. Prices are reasonable(between $ 11 to $ 18) for the sets and you can add sides such as dumplings, fish paste or hot appetizers. I love that you can mix your own sauces at the condiment stand. Service is quick and attentive.

A Taiwanese ice and shabu-shabu restaurant(hence, Ice Fire Land). Upon entering, there are a few glossy, curvy black and red tables, primarily the area for ice. Further in is the spacious shabu-shabu tables and dining area. We stopped by midday for Taiwanese ice only, and it was well worth the stop. One of the best Taiwanese ices I’ve had in NYC. The ice is very finely shaved, the flavors of the toppings balanced and the toppings themselves were pretty fresh, didn’t taste of canned food. Our ice with condensed milk, yogurt boba, pineapple, and green beans vanished very quickly. I’d love to have it again.

A few friends and I came here to sit and get some Taiwanese Ice. I got some some shitty ice earlier and we wanted something more. This place is really spacious. They can hold a lot of people so big groups are welcome. We sat in the front since we were just having the Taiwanese Ice. Our ice consisted of Condensed Milk, Pineapple, Taro Balls, Lychee Jelly and Red Beans. This was simple and very tasty. For the price of $ 5. It’s well worth it!

In my opinion, this shabu shabu restaurant did not deserve the high ratings from its reviewers. Flushing offers a plethora of superior hot pot locations. On a recent trip with my best friend, we were the only two customers in the whole place(at dinner time). While very convenient, it was uncomfortably eerie. The standard veggie plate was meager compared to other hot pot establishments. My vermicelli(all five strands of it) was tucked away under a mountain of cabbage that was deliberately arranged in such a way as to make the platter look more hefty than it really was. Not even Victoria’s Secret pushes up THAT much. Also, the broth was extremely disappointing. My friend had the regular broth, which I assumed would be the Japanese dashi broth most shabu shabu places use. It wasn’t, and it didn’t taste very good. I paid the extra $ 2 for sour cabbage soup, and that was also lackluster. The redeeming parts of this dinner were: — The wait staff was nice. No complaints there. — The shaved ice was delicious. They didn’t skimp on the condensed milk, which is the biggest mistake other ice places make. I’m glad I was able to try it once, but I won’t be coming back.

I don’t venture into Flushing or even Queens that often, but my Queens friends are regulars at this place. I love that the restaurant is large, spacious, modern and looks clean. There’s ample seating for large groups, and I’m particularly a fan of the individual pots since I hate sharing. Obviously I learned nothing in kindergarten. Super extra bonus points to them for having a vegetarian option(so hard to find in chinatowns since my people do love their meat in everything) including a vegetarian soup base(which is also Buddhist-friendly as well). The veg platter included a nice variety of vegetables, noodles, tofu, mushrooms, and mock seafood. Only downside is that it didn’t come with some of my favorites like taro or egg – of course probably to accommodate a variety of vegetarians – so those items have to be ordered al a carte.(The non-vegetarian platters do come with an egg and a taro slice.) Service was also very polite and accommodating. I always leave with a really full and satisfied belly.

I’m sitting here with a burned tongue as I always do after eating hot pot. Being that I use my tongue often it’s no fun. Hey, get yer mind out of the gutter. Ice Fire Land(I. F. Land) is awesome. The front sells bubble tea and Taiwanese Ice. The back, a huge space has hot pot. Hence ice/fire. Bad name, good food. My wife Ting is Taiwanese so I’d say we eat some sort of Asian food 85% of the time. We didn’t try the«ice» part of the place, but we did get down on some tasty hot pot. As soon as you are seated the waitress brings each person a bowl of vegetables and other things to boil. Bok choy, taro, egg, sheet tofu, glass noodles and a few other things we couldn’t identify. Ting had the chicken broth and I had the herbal broth. Both were great, but I think I dig the chicken more. We also ordered beef, pork and some udon noodles to add. Ting commented that the meat was very fresh, and I agreed(I added a few photos). Years ago I reviewed a Japanese hot pot place and mentioned that I didn’t like cooking my own food, but I think I’m over that. I still find hot pot to be a little on the bland side of things, but there’s something about it that I really like. _____

It seems like everyone and their mothers is coming here for Taiwanese Ice. I’m personally not a fan of it. But when Winter comes around, I lurv me some good hot pot/shabu. Approaching this brightly lit restaurant after dark and stepping through the doors, I was in awe. All this for some hot pot/shabu & Taiwanese Ice. I didn’t know this place has been open since 2008, it’s huge! It was a rainy Monday night and there was only 3 tables of patrons. A bit worried about the freshness of food, we sat down and perused the extensive menu. Prices aren’t bad, expect to pay about $ 20 p/p. The prices are comparable with Mynnis Shabu Shabu So those of you who don’t know what Chinese hot pot/shabu is, it’s similar to Japanese hot pot/shabu. It’s generally served as a family style pot(shared) with boiling hot broth, and you dip thin slices of beef, chicken, or pork, your screaming kids, seafood, corn, noodles, fish balls, napa cabbage, spinach, and etc. into it and let it boil. You make your own dipping sauce and dip the cooked food into it and eat it. This place has individual pots which is great for me. Coz if I had to share with my BF, he’d be stealing all my food. It may not sound very filling or tasty boiling your food but it is. I also like the interactive part of cooking your own food. Upon ordering your choice of raw meats/seafood combo, you can also chose some a la carte items such as dumplings, more seafood, intestinal tracks, and other weird items to add to your order. You also get a large bowl of various veges which include mushrooms, tomato’s, taro, and etc. Don’t forget to chose from the 3 choices of soup broth. There’s Chicken, spicy something, and herbal(don’t get this unless you’re hankering for some ancient Chinese herbalicious soup). The key is to make a variety of sauces at the sauce station to dip into. I add a little of everything but my favorite is the Chinese BBQ(sa-cha) sauce. I only saw one sauce station which is kind of weird for such a large layout but I don’t care. It was had everything you need and a sneeze guard on it, AND the sauces and condiments were kept cold in the unit. In the far back corner I saw a guy slicing up the meats on a deli cutter. The only thing that perturbed me a bit was some of the items were frozen. My mussels, fish fillets, and seafood tofu was frozen. They tasted fine but I prefer them to be fresh. The bathroom is also very clean which is rare for a Chinese owned & operated food establishment. For dessert we had to get the Taiwanese ice cuz that’s what all the previous reviews raved about. It was really light and fluffy, and I hate snow cones and etc. I do not like red beans, sweet corn, nor grass jelly on my desserts. I prefer it plain with condensed milk and some TARO balls. After we managed to polish this off, our bellies were full and we rolled ourselves out. Shaved Ice is not as light of a dessert as you may think. All in all, it was a great dinner experience. I just wish the all of the food could be fresh.

The Unilocal Check-In feature served its true purpose. It instilled jealously in me over friends who constantly checked in to Ice Fire Land multiple times a week. When I got to try the shaved ice a couple weeks ago I was finally part of the cool club. The shaved ice was light and airy enabling the fluffy spoonful to melt in your mouth. Something that cannot be achieved when most other places serving shaved ice use crushed ice. There are so many toppings and they ain’t stingy with their condensed milk. I’m not a big hot pot fan but if eating here means shaved ice for dessert, I’m so there.

I came here because of Serious Eat’s article on Taiwanese Ice. Stopped here one afternoon to check it out. This dessert is huge and cheap! I thought it was really neat that the toppings were inside with the exception of the condensed milk. The ice was«fine» which was a major plus! There was just enough sweetness that it wasn’t overbearing which was good. I didn’t eat previously so I almost devoured the entire thing. It was that good. The hot pot looked pretty good on menu. I will definitely come back to give that a try and share a bowl of the Taiwanese Ice. My sister came here after I did and she said she ordered it to go and they were able to accommodate. I’m sure it would taste fabulous eating it out on a hot day!

This review is for the Taiwanese Ice only. Rating — 4.5 I’ve been wanting to come here for a while… and thanks to Serious Eats & Unilocal Elite — Wing L( ), I stopped by for some Taiwanese Ice. YUM. That’s all I can say. I like the Taiwanese Ice here because the ice is shaved so that the ice is almost«fluffy», if you get my drift. Top view of the Taiwanese Ice — Bottom view of the Taiwanese Ice — On my Taiwanese Ice, I always get condensed milk. I like it better than the simple syrup that is normally poured on. Their pudding and yellow jelly toppings go well with the Taiwanese Ice. If you’re going to get condensed milk, ask them to put less simple syrup on… otherwise, you’ll be on a sugar high! Worth a trip if you’re in Flushing area.

You’re probably wondering why the hell did Wing travel an hour and a half from Brooklyn to Flushing, Queens to get shaved ice from a hot pot place? Well, just a few days prior to this review, I was on Serious Eats NY and they named this place«The Best Taiwanese Shaved Ice in New York». Now, I haven’t had Taiwanese shaved ice for over a year already and with the nasty high temperatures and humidity of the last few days, Taiwanese shaved ice was running through my mind with every drop of sweat because of that article. Thus on another scorching day on the weekend, I found myself traveling on a long train ride to Flushing, Queens. First thing I learned about this place? That the freakin Unilocal App have the place mapped out wrong. It brought me two blocks down to an area that was under construction. What the $%^&? Anyway, with some effort, and a bit of common sense(Yeah yeah. I know. I meant what little I do have) I found my way to the correct location. I made my order, chose four toppings from a list of 16 and went across the street to a nearby park to enjoy what I was craving for most of a week. My toppings were small red beans, taro ball, pudding, and lychee Jelly. Upon the first spoonful, I noticed that the ice is shaved much finer than many other competing Taiwanese Shaved Ices. It feels very light and fluffy when spooned into the mouth. The ice is sweetened with what I believe to be tamarind juice and possibly honey. Mixed in with the firm sweetness of the red beans, soft chewiness of the taro ball and lychee jelly, and the silkiness of the pudding, and it was a winning flavor, texture combination with every bite for me. This was a great refreshing start to what would be an interesting food crawl for the rest of the day in Flushing. **************************************** In case anyone is interested in knowing the rest of the list for Taiwanese Shaved Ice from Serious Eats NY, here it is. 9. I’ll fondly remember Ice Fire Land as being my first huo guo(aka shabu shabu) experience. Upon arrival, three huge bowls of veggies, cellophane noodles, and assorted protein sources(like fish cakes) were placed in front of us – one for each party. The big bowl of goodies were intimidating enough, that we weren’t sure if we could first finish that and our main entrée, i.e. our protein of choice. Thankfully, we soon discovered that the portions for the actual meats were nowhere as big as the aforementioned bowl with my favorite being the lean beef, which was superb in quality, by the way. While my party and I managed to happily finish off the beef, pork, and fish, we left most of our noodles and veggies untouched. Portion sizes were definitely out of proportion, and one would have to step inside Ice Fire Land starving in order to be able to polish off the entire thing… and an order of the shaved ice. Hot pot and shaved ice pretty much go hand-in-hand much like summer and ice cream. Therefore foregoing an order of the shaved ice(and its four delicious toppings) is, simply put, a sin. Moreover, the sauce bar is the time to release your inner creativity. A pinch of black vinegar not only packs the taste but delivers a multitude of health benefits too. Win and win!

Came here only for the Taiwanese shaved ice, so I can’t speak for anything else. The shaved ice was $ 3.95 for four topping choices(I believe each additional topping was $.75 extra). It came in a reasonably sized bowl that could be shared between two people who just want a light snack. Cons: Condensed milk is a topping choice and does not just come with your bowl, which is annoying. It’s also a little more sweet than I would usually like, and they skimp a little on how much they give you of each topping. Other topping choices include taro, taro balls, tapioca, red bean, green bean, different kinds of jelly, etc. I guess I would come here again though, unless I find out about a better &cheaper place in the area(I’m sure one def exists somewhere in Flushing!).

Modern large individual hot pot for groups of 4 tables. Get ur own sauce, large bowl, good amt meat, combination order. Opens late So i guess Flushing is the side or more suburban asian area outside of China Town in NY, equivalent to Monterey Park or Alhambra in Southern California. Lots of café, food joints, shops and more here around this area. Ice Fire Land gives huge portions for the hot pot. They have their own sauce cart, its decent and the shaved ice is okay too. I think I would come back if I’m in the area again. Did I mention, its opened late? Easy place to spot out because its bright, red and lighted. But this place can’t compare to the places in 626 Southern California. Probably great place for East Coasters?

I brought my boyfriend here for his very first hot pot experience. When I explained that we’d be cooking our meat, seafood and veggies in two pots of boiling broth, he was initially less than thrilled. I said«Don’t knock it ’til you try it». He agreed to keep an open mind. And he LOVED it! I think Ice Fire Land is an especially good place to bring hot pot virgins. The restaurant itself is really modern and spacious. Meals are moderately priced. The menu is extensive enough that there’s something for everyone. And service has improved! Our waiter was super attentive and extremely helpful. Great place to come for a healthy, tasty meal!

After searching Unilocal for a near-by Shabu Shabu restaurant, we chose this one. Mapquest or the mappage through Unilocal sent us to the wrong area. Thank goodness for Tom Tom. Located on a side street in Flushing, this area is very congested, so make sure you read signs and stop for the pedestrians when parking. We found a spot near the municipal parking around the corner. Don’t look for the name of the restaurant on any sign, almost all signs are not written in English. We found the restaurant by checking the store address although the sign says I.F. Land and is located across from a small park. This is my first time eating Shabu Shabu, I found myself disagreeing with most of the reviews of Ice Fire Land on Unilocal. Walking in, this place is a lot bigger than I thought. The décor is pretty modern, and looks nothing like the rest of the area. The staff was very helpful, patient and considerate, teaching my boyfriend and I how to cook & season our food. For starters we shared the dumplings. We both ordered beef cooked in chicken broth. Mine was $ 12& My boyfriends prime beef was $ 16. Each main course comes with a large ***Unlimited*** bowl of greens, corn, taro, pumpkin, mushroom, fishball, pickled veggie, bean curd & egg. I can’t believe anyone would say they left this place feeling hungry. There is way too much food and the staff kept asking us if we wanted more! Check out my pics if you don’t believe me! I know most people made comments about the sauce station, but I am glad it was on the small side. I thought there were plenty of things to choose from. Scallions, garlic, hot peppers, sesame oil, peanut sauce, leeks, and a bunch more. It is in a random spot, almost like a tiny salad bar but it works! I had to try the ices everyone was talking about. I ordered mine with taro, condensed milk, tapioca, and red beans. It was amazing. I never had anything like that it was just refreshing and way better then ice cream! My boyfriend ordered the taro slushy which was amazing as well. Just like a taro milkshake! The bill came out to about $ 45 which was cheap for all that food. I would suggest sharing the dessert because it is quite large. They even give you two bowls and spoons. I can not wait to bring my friends and family here. It was a great experience. Open every day, Super late!!! If you are in the area, stop by even just for dessert, they have a little spot just for that. A Saturday night, 8pm… Ice Fire was packed with locals! I wish this place was on Long Island. We loved it!

How quickly this business starts to down grade as the months go by. The meat and/or seafood portions are still decent however I’ve noticed the side veggies & vermicelli noodles are getting smaller every time I go back. Of course they would cut down on the free sides first. Their sauce station is still dinky & awkward, but I can still manage to mix up my own dipping sauce. Still I’d leave 3 stars here… it’s still clean and no sight of creepy crawlies.
