Dickey’s Barbecue Pit

I’ve eaten there 1 time a couple of months ago and it was delicious! I wanted to go again for a take out and standing in line I noticed they had a heavy weight boxing match playing on the Wall TV. I got so grossed out by these men bloodying up each other’s face, I had to leave before I could give my order. I’m not a wimp, but these guys were barbaric, I guess at the end of the match that should’ve been stopped waaay sooner.
The food is good, but it’s really a tough guy, good olé boy kinda place and I didn’t feel comfortable. The BBq is really good though, so if that’s what you want, you can get it!

This place has really good barbecue. I had a pulled pork sandwich. It was great! I tried the sweet and original sauces. They were both good. I preferred the original. They had a good variety of side choices, also. The okra was really good! Plus they had free ice cream cones. The staff was really nice! The manager brought me out a to go box, and asked if we needed anything else several times. The only thing is this place is a little pricey. We paid almost $ 30 for two plates, but the quality of the food was excellent! The restaurant itself is rather small. It was very cramped in the restaurant. There was like maybe 8 tables in a very small area. Besides that, everything else was excellent. I would recommend this place! We’ll most likely be coming back.

Let me preface this review by saying upfront that the BBQ ribs were VERY good. I would definitely look forward to having a ½ rack in front of me SOON. The downsides of the lunchtime experience at the Flowood location were: the VERY SMALL seating area which filled quickly, the ORDERING process which was convoluted and confusing (had to speak to 3 different people before the order was placed in my hands), the drink machine area being located right where you get your order thus leading to a customer pileup there. I DID like their BBQ beans but give a full thumbs down on the potato salad. Would definitely select the cole slaw instead on my next trip. The free ice cream machine is impressive: densely frozen dairy dessert which is perfect for cone or bowl. P. S. Friends tell me the Madison location is much roomier.

I go to Dickeys every Wednesday for the Westerner special. A hoagie roll piled with pulled pork, then layered with sausage (ask for the jalapeño cheese), accompanied by dress yourself cheese and onions. I get the potato casserole with bacon bits, chives, shredded cheddar, and sour cream, and the green beans. It is a ton of food with a big big drink for under $ 10. The food is good, not great, but very good.
Sometimes it’s about more than the food though is why this is a 5-​star joint. Like I said, I go weekly. They remember me and know how I like my food. No pickles and an extra slice of cheese. They always have a smile (and a free vanilla ice cream cone) that makes me feel like this is a place that really gives a crap about how folks perceive their business.
This week I missed my Wednesday trip to Dickeys and on Friday decided, «damn the cost I want my westerner!» They knew I had not been in that week and gave it to me as the daily special anyway. I will be a loyal Dickies customer for some time to come.

My wife, Monica, and I have been searching for a decent BBQ place. We come to Jackson at least once a month and usually eat lunch or dinner while we are here.
We decided to try Dickey’s. We almost missed it because it is fairly small. It is a franchise BBQ shop and seems cramped. A few small tables were inside. I would guess about 5 or 6. When we got there it was about 5:30 or 6:00 and we noticed that it wasn’t filling up. That’s when we began to think we had made a mistake. However the later it got the more people were filing in, especially the telephone orders. The steady stream of people and the constant ringing of the telephone let us know we had made a good choice. We got the combo plate, ribs and sliced brisket with beans. They were great! We now have a bbq place that can scratch that itch whenever it comes around.

I am a Memphis native, so I am a bit of a BBQ snob. So, when I say that Dickeys almooooost makes me feel like I am at home again, it is saying A LOT. My advice would be to order from, the daily special – it is definitely the best deal and more affordable than most of the regular menu items. The special usually comes with 2 sides and a big olé drink that will last for hours. My favorite is their BBQ sauce – they have 3 self-​serve sauces which include Original, Sweet, and Spicy. The Sweet sauce is my favorite and I smother it on EVERYTHING (especially on their creamy mac and cheese). Their meats, of course, are my next favorite. I especially like the brisket and the sausage. I would give it 5 stars but the staff isn’t as friendly as I would like them to be. On my first time there, the guy in charge of preparing the meats seemed annoyed that we were taking so long to order. I could understand the sense of urgency if there was a long line but we were the only ones in line. Other than that, they are very quick so it is a great place to go if you are wanting something fast. If you dine in, you get a free ice cream cone so make sure to take advantage of that.

Highly impressed with this place. Ate here for the first time a couple of weekends ago, and it was delicious. The daily special is the way to go. It’s much cheaper than if you order the items separately. I thought the brisket was awesome. Also, be sure to take advantage of the free ice cream!

have been here twice. exactly the same experience.
good service, good atmosphere, simply mediocre BBQ.
ordered a pulled pork plate both times. pork was moist but absolutely zero pit or smoke flavor including the bark. could have passed for cafeteria BBQ.
beans were good. mac and cheese came straight from a can.
expect much more for a $ 12.50 (tax included) pig plate.

This is our favorite BBQ joint. My favorite is the turkey, but the brisket is also wonderful. My favorite sides are the Mac and cheese and baked potato casserole. The potato salad is really yummy too!
The service here is phenomenal and the restaurant is always kept clean, which is always good. I think the free ice cream is a nice way to top off a good meal.
I highly suggest giving this restaurant a try; you’re sure to leave satisfied!

Food is pretty good for a fast food BBQ place. The reason for only 3 stars? I just can’t get over the fact that they squeeze your meat to death and make it soggy! Why would you feel a need to do that to good BBQ? I don’t like the fact that they do that, never seen it done before.

The BBQ was delicious. and the free ice cream tops off the whole experience. However, the space is a little bit of an issue. There isn’t enough of it.

Good quick stop for some decent BBQ. Pretty quality meats for a fast food place. They had very good prices for the amount of food and free ice cream cone machine as well!

Mediocre. It filled my craving for bbq, but lacked flavor. Typical chain watering down a good thing. I don’t see myself returning.

It’s not the sauce that makes great BBQ, it’s the quality of meat and how it’s cooked and Dickey’s is the best in the Brandon/​Flowood area.
Great friendly staff (including the owner who took a minute just to say thanks), and you get your money’s worth!
My favorite is the ribs, but the Cowboy is pretty awesome too. I recommend both!

I really have to stop being so stingy with giving away 5 stars! We were back here again tonight and everything was fab! I really don’t think I’ve ever had better barbecue!
Food is delicious, portions are generous, restaurant is spotless, employees are delightful… What more do I want? 5 stars it is!
