Charges for water and the food is terrible. Not even worth a one star rating. This place is also extremely overpriced. Your best bet is to swing on over to Las Fuentes just south of this shit hole.

We went with a group for dinner & were billed incorrectly 5 times! Doubled billed for entrees, drinks and desserts. We were billed $ 227 for a bill that should have been $ 137. A 20% gratuity was added to our tab & was not reduced when the bill was corrected. The food was good, but the service was terrible. Waitress was invisible & as I said it took 5 tries to get our bill right with the help of the manager. Never again!

My family and I have been regulars for years. Best Mexican in stl. However, Ruiz has slowly been disappointing us with each visit. The service is terrible. I don’t know if they just need to hire more help or what the deal is. We honestly questioned whether they were closing and just didn’t care anymore? We are often ignored to the point where the wait staff blatantly walk by our table multiple times while we have our money out ready to pay. Not to mention the tables are always sticky to the point where we have to lay napkins down so that our arms don’t stick to the table.(Napkins that we had to help ourselves to by the way.) Just overall disappointing experience with this place the last few visits. Would expect more attentive wait staff. Hoping this gets addressed and there is improvement soon.

I had massive stomach cramps the next day and this was all I ate yesterday. I was so full I couldn’t eat anything else and I didn’t even finish half my plate. Vibe was eerie. Service was slow even though the place was pretty much empty. Chips were greasy. Salsa tasted like spaghetti sauce. Beans were dry. Rice was pretty good.

The fajita combination is wonderful! But the guacamole is absolutely fabulous! 5 stars!

I lived in the St. Louis area for 19 years(moved away in ’06), and no matter how many other Mexican restaurants I’ve dined at, I always find myself at Ruiz again. The Steak Tampiqueña by far is my favorite, with the beef enchiladas being my second choice. Both dishes are perfectly seasoned and the rice and bean accompaniments are tasty as well. The restaurant staff are always friendly and my drink is always kept full. Ruiz is always on the list when I return to Florissant for a visit. :-)

I’m giving them a 4star review because the family loves this place. Mexican food to me, looks like something someone already ate. We had a group of 14 and the server did a gang-buster of a job. Awesome work. It was easy to tell the food was fresh, hot and tasty. I had the beef fajitas because this is my Mexican limit. The Dos exquiets was cold and tasty. I like Mexican beer. A lot!

Staff was the best part of my visit. they were very nice… not real quick. but nice… I’m used to Cherokee street or Woodson. It wasn’t bad but there are plenty of better restaurants. I guess its good enough if you live close.

The worst service I’ve ever had. I had to ask them multiple times to give us food drinks and checks. The first guy server never came back. The food is below mediocre.

The meal and drinks were great. Nice after work kick back on a Friday! The salsa they served with the chips was a bit on the spicy side, good but hot! I have the three chicken burritos, my husband had the fajita combo. We were both pleased with the meals, drinks, and service.

One of my nieces chose this restaurant for her 21st birthday. We had a darling waitress and since our party was roughly 16, I thought she did very well. Disclaimer: Mexican food is one of my least favorites. I do like fajitas, and the steak fajitas were good, but I don’t understand all the extra grease that sits in the steak, peppers and onions. Overall, it just didn’t seem fresh. Heads up: All our checks had the 20% tip already built in, but their credit card slips still had prominent lines for the tip and adding the total. This is a pet peeve of mine because I don’t think everyone will notice they’ve already paid a 20% tip and will potentially tip twice. Someone in our party did just that. There is nothing wrong with a restaurant knowingly adding a tip for large parties, but these particular receipts border on being deceptive. The server should block out that space imo.

Anyone that doesn’t like Ruiz doesn’t like AUTHENTIC Mexican food. If your idea of good Mexican is something like Chevy’s, move on… Ruiz has been around forever and it’s delicious!!! The tamales are excellent! The enchiladas to die for! No one beats their rice with beef on top! I love the margaritas! It’s all so good and if you have leftovers it tastes even better the next day! I’ve never had bad service here EVER! It’s family owned and it shows.

I have only been here once before so it was nice to come back. The waitress was great and handled our party of 12 adequately. I tried someone’s honey hot wings and they were darn near perfect. Perfect crispness. Just a hint of sweetness with a classic good buffalo wing taste. I will definitely be getting those next time I go. For myself I got the chicken chimichanga. It was good nothing stand out for me. The beans definitely had a good flavor and the rice was standard. I didn’t like how they automatically added gratuity specifically 20% but our service was good and food was good so it was fine. Just felt a bit forced. Overall I will be back for the wings!

Horrible… fajitas were the worst ive ever had. They were just served on a plate when they came out and it seemed as if they were cooked earlier and not fresh. yuck!

The hostess was a b*tch. Instead of educating US about the places reservation policy, she needs to educate the staff. We made a reservation for 2. The guy on the phone didn’t ask for a name. It was for 6:30. We were late and I apologized fully ready for a wait. That’s when the attitude started. Apparently they don’t take reservations for 6:30, and just so we knew… «for future reference we don’t take reservations for less than 7.» Tell that to your staff who took the reservation, not us idiot. The waitress wasn’t much better. She asked if we wanted more salsa, but never brought it. The beef tastes the way canned dog food smells. I’m not sure why people love it so much. Also watch out for glass in your food. The table right next to us had to get a manager because there was a shard of triangular glass bigger than a quarter in a woman’s chimichanga. Oh and some other table had an issue as well. I saw the waitress come out with food and apologize about something… this after the table had to go boxes and their check. We travel 40 mins. To eat here on special occasions. A mistake we won’t make again.

Tough to make a left turn going North on Lindberg, so be careful. I don’t know about«authentic», but well seasoned, served promptly and hot with lots of flavor make me a fan of this fabulous old timer in Florissant, MO. Since returning from San Antonio some 9 years ago, twice we tried to dine at Ruiz, and the waits were interminable. We went there for lunch on a Saturday and basically had the restaurant to ourselves. The chips are fresh, not greasy and properly salted. The«free» salsa were super. I have been so disappointed in Mexican restaurants who only add heat, and no flavors, the tomato based was chunky and had other fresh veggies. The Verde, may have had a touch to much vinegar, but was good. I had a «build your own plate» and the spinach empanada was as good as it gets. The problem is there are too many tasty looking items to make an easy decision. The service was way above average, and the server very pleasant. Definitely going back for more and more and more!

Never ceases to amaze me how good this place is. Frijole dip is a must and the pollo Adobado if you love some chipotle spice. Of course the fajitas are unique and out of this world too.

We have been going to this restaurant for years when we visit my son in Florissant. Over time there have been many changes, but not always for the better. However, we still find this to be a good restaurant to go to. We had a party of five and all ordered the combination fajita platter. Two of our party had food allergies and got a salad in place of the rice and fried beans. The salsa was thick with a mild bite. The chips were just ok. My son requested green sauce which came in a cereal size bowl and was very good. We also ordered queso gringo which was very mild so I mixed in a little green sauce and it was great. The combination fajita platter was loaded with tender beef, chicken and vegetables. Delicious! We had more than enough to eat and take home. The service was just average. We’ll be back.

I have been eating at Ruiz for over 20 years. I can honestly say I have never had a bad meal here. My family loves the queso dip, the enchiladas, the chimichangas, and we really love their rice and beans… hands down the best I’ve had in St. Louis. The last time we ate here(about a month and a half ago) the sercice was a little sketch but other than that the food and the margaritas were as good as they always were. Ruiz will continue to be in my Mexican restaurant rotation.

My husband thinks this place is the best EVER. Me, not so much. I mean it’s just ok for me. However, Cinco de Mayo is coming up, and they throw a damn good party! *Please excuse my French* I’ve been here years ago, but I swear the Steak Tampiqueña used to be awesome! It’s under seasoned now, and just not the same.
