It’s gone:(. I use to live in Florissant when the housing market there was hot. I loved Jamestown mall ugh. How things have changed. This is just one of many malls being destroyed by online sells and bad economy.

There’s nothing left here but I still want to post. I read about people asking, «What happened to this mall? It was so vibrant 5 years ago.» OK, here’s the thing… no it wasn’t. It was vibrant in the late 1970s but even when I was in high school, by 1985 it was clear there was enormous decrease in traffic. It may have seemed vibrant to you a few years ago but you should have seen it with a full parking lot. ANDHEREISTHEMAGICANSWERTOWHATHAPPENED: people stopped spending money there. If you want businesses to stay in your community you have to spend enough money for them to make a profit. When they don’t, they will close. And they have. Now if I rated this mall in 1978 – 1984, I would have given it a 4. I was a mall rat and this was my mall. I used to walk 5 miles round trip to get here. Down Lindbergh and cutting across 367.

This place is deader then dead… Central States Liquidation is kinda interesting though if you are looking for some nice cheap furniture, they sells stuff that came out of hotels. Sears, Dillards, JC Penney, and Famous Barr/Macy’s are all dead and gone, and all that’s left inside is a Foot Locker and a few Mom and Pop shops. If you are an afficianado of dead malls, its a must see, but if you are looking for good mall shopping, you won’t find it anymore in North St. Louis County; jump on I-270 and head down to West County Mall if you are looking for the nearest live mall.

What in the world happened to this mall? I can remember when I was in my early teens(which was not too long ago — I’m 23), and this mall was a lot more vibrant and popular than it is today. I don’t go there often, but I was there a few weeks ago(during Christmas season, no less!) and the mall was dead. I think the only two anchor stores remaining are Sears and JCPenney Outlet, and the Sears is on it’s way out. This mall, once filled with unique and interesting stores and shops, now mainly consists of kiosks occupied by cell-phone peddlers. The movie theater is the only thing keeping this poor mall alive.
