One of Long Island’s best kept secrets is now officially out in the open. Grill Massa Deluxe Michael G is the head of Department of BBQ Services, formally an underground meat purveyor that was finally brought to the Unilocal limelight courtesy of the summer smash event, the Star Garten. Life has never been the same since. As a man who appreciates a finely grilled piece of meat, I couldn’t have been more impressed than what I had sampled that warm day in July. After trying one of their pork sliders, I believe the expression I said outloud was: «That was straight money.» But little did I realize that they beef sliders that were clearly the more popular item, but fellow Dept of BBQ Services honcho Astrid G hooked me up with a mini burger and the Garten’s stars were suddenly aligned for me. Bangin. These mini patties, so juicy that they were soaked into the bread they were sandwiched in between, were straight bangin’. I don’t go out of my way to get my fill at most events because I’d be talking with a mouth full, but all logic went out the window and I practically camped near their tent in hopes of scoring another bomb beef slider. It was that good. If there was a runaway hit for that evening, it was most certainly that. Things got more epic shortly after. The crowd thinned out as the evening skies made their way into LI night yet Dept of BBQ Services kept the after party alive and well with additional sliders, slabs of pork bits for all to eat, and good laughs to keep the energy up. Michael had us sample a nice chunk off of a pork shoulder that was smoked for a good minute and it was nothing short of fantastic. It was soft, almost pillowy, tender as can be, and had so much flavor that it would be in enjoyable in all forms(sandwich, taco, on its own). There was love in this meat and only something the BBQ jefe can inject into it, a true sign of mastery and an amazing impression for all who were there. I now long for their BBQ and am partially ashamed for my backward thinking that their casual BBQ fests were simply neighborhood protocol for the summer months. Just as Michael and Astrid are no ordinary couple, this is no ordinary BBQ. Quality and deliciousness has a new name: Department of BBQ Services.

I tried their BBQ pulled pork sliders at Unilocal’s Star Garten Event. I can honestly say, I am Latina, I know good pork– this is good pork! Cooked for 24 hours, it’s simply delicious. I can’t count how many I had… shhhhhhh! LOL! One of my top faves of the evening!

Michael and Astrid are great people. They are also fellow Unilocalers so they know what Unilocalers and other consumers want! I’ve only tried their sliders but judging from the sliders I’m confident that whatever products they put out will be awesome. I also love the name of their company. Highly recommended.

Absolutely awesome sliders at the Unilocal Star Garten event! Very moist, tender, and juicy brisket sliders. The pulled pork good as well… but… dat brisket. Mmmmmmmmmm… Can’t wait to try some more of Michael G.‘s carnivorous goodness!

I tried their sliders at the Unilocal Star Garten event last month. Meat was juicy and had a good balance of flavor. Hope to see them at more events in the future.
