This place was a magical discovery. The perfect addition to a flea market adventure. Conveniently located next to Katie’s Treasures, Taqueria Los Gallos serves up some of the most authentic Mexican food I’ve ever tasted. The tamales were perfectly moist and delicious. The menudo was spicy and the tripe was delicious. The thing that blew me away was the pozole. An amazingly flavorful soup with shredded pork and hominy that’s served with baked corn tortillas, shredded cabbage, onions, lime, and half an avocado! This is definitely what I’ll go back for.

On a recent trip to Smiley’s flea market my friend and I found this gem. Unlike some of the other taco places at Smiley’s, Taqueria Los Gallos doesn’t have an exterior presence. It is located on the corner of the indoor market. The market’s walkway literally transects the dining room. What Los Gallos lacks in ambiance it more than makes up for in authentic kick ass tacos and tamales. My friend and I visited Los Gallos after we succesfuly located a copy of the 2005 remake of War of the Worlds starring Tom Cruise. This was victory food. We ordered two al pastor tacos and a tamale. The tacos were on point, double wrapped corn tortillas, and a solid helping of delicious pork. No frills, just solidly well prepared pork, onions, and cilantro. The tortillas were warm and tender. The tacos were good, but the tamale was GREAT. We missed out on the verde chicken tamale, as they had sold out by noon. We were happy to settle for the pork rojo one, which was still available. Los Gallos’ tamale was bigger than most, and it was moist and airy. Dense dry tamales can take a hike, this thing was a golden brick of maize. The pork within was nice chunks of slow cooked meat, not some sort of macerated filling… oh man, I can’t get over how awesome this tamale was. The best part? Tamales are $ 1.50. I think everyone loves finding a new spot, a hidden gem that offers an out of this world food item, and Los Gallos is just that spot! Furthermore I have to mention their avocado salsa which is neon green, and the most delicious salsa I think I’ve ever had. I know I get excited about things regularly… but Los Gallos… Los Gallos is worth driving to Fletcher for. Word of caution, Los Gallos is only open on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 am til 3 pm. This gives you a very small window of time to check this land of wonder out.
