IMO this is the best place in Asheville! Their fried fish and homemade tartar sauce is wonderful! The country style steak is heavenly! Everything is so delicious! This is the only place I can find German Chocolate pie, excellent! 2 people can eat for 20.00 bucks!

Ahhhh J&S… What a love hate relationship we have.
LOVE
The food is good. I was very surprised to find out that they make EVERYTHING in house daily. The portions are big, hot, and good! I like the pot pie myself and I usually ask tor the «biggest piece» and they always cut one out of the pan much larger that they should!
HATE
As you have read it is a cafeteria restaurant.

Reminds me of being a kid at the local Italian cantina restaurant, Augustine’s, on Rt. 1 in Saugus MA! I see the same excitement in my kids.

The place smells like the rugs have never been steam cleaned and the place looks like it has never been updated, EVER!
LOVE
We can walk out of their for under $ 30 full of food and dessert with 2 adults and 4 kids! Sunday and Wednesday kids eat for a dollar or something like that.

The wait staff is nonexistent. We ALWAYS have to go and get our own refills, go and get our own ketchup, go and get more napkins, go and get everything ourselves.

the food was really good, its Cafeteria style. someone serves u. you have many choices and the serving area was very clean. the food was fresh not sitting long.
after sitting in dining area, someone should take your tray… but we saw no one and got our own doggie bag to go. definitely return, i had the fish and it was delicious.
i got dessert too and took a picture, coconut cream pie is yummo!!!

We were staying at the Fairfeild Inn (Marriott) right next door and decided to go to J&S for food. First off it was lunchtime in school set up like a cafeteria and I thought that was awesome. They had a variety of foods, veggies, desserts and drinks and the people were very friendly. The lines were long but they moved really quickly. I enjoyed eating there and would very much recommend it.

It’s cafeteria so I was not expecting superb food. The quality was decent. The price was a bit pricey for a cafeteria. My food was good, but my wife’s food (chicken pan pie) was a bit luke warm. This was due to her getting something that a lot of others had not gotten. In my case I got white fish which a lot of others had gotten so it was staying restocked. Desert, coconut crème pie and chocolate pie was very good! Would I go back? Yes, but not every month.

Right across the street from the Asheville Airport, J&S offers good, hot, food that is reasonably priced. The décor is plain, but functional. The real treat is the staff. Friendly and professional to a fault and the reason I’ll return whenever nearby. (caution: do not go near the place if you see a tour bus in the parking lot or you will be standing in line forever)

Great old school cafeteria. After road tripping all day and eating junk, J & S sounded good to us. It is just like the Morrison’s and Picadilly Cafeteria’s I grew up on. My kids loved picking out their own stuff. It’s nothing fancy, but good for what it is.
