Love coming here. The food is very good. Service staff are very friendly. The wine selection, inexpensive, is good. If your gluten free, they have very good gluten free pasta. Overall, Matt nailed it again. We enjoy Matts Red Rooster… we were there two days ago, Gallo Rosso is a hit.

Good pizza, great calamari, good martinis and an interesting craft beer selection. Thumbs Up.

This place looked amazing on the inside, very nice interior, everything was new. the food on the other hand was a big disappointment. The meal was not worth what it cost. The appetizer I ordered — shrimp with avocado on bread — was awful. The salad was mediocre at best, and the steak came doused in steak sauce. it still didn’t have any flavor. won’t be coming back.

My husband and I do not get out often so when we get out, we want a good restaurant. Gallo Rosso did not disappoint! We had stuffed mushrooms, antipasti, apple walnut salad, pizza, and eggplant rollantini. The portions were huge! You will not leave hungry. The food was delicious. And our server Carlyn was excellent! We will be back.

Ate here for lunch… had the stuffed mushroom, red pepper soup, and and chicken francese with artichokes… they were all delicious. The bread was amazing and tasted like it just came out of the oven. The only negative was the slow service… the waittress tried to do her best to get us what we needed but they were clearly short staffed for a Saturday… or it could have been the kitchen that was slow.

Was reluctant to eat here given the reviews, but decided to see for myself. Yes it looks like Bensi did. The food was good, not exceptional, but that fine. I have no idea how there can be a line at Olive Garden down the road and not here. Russo Gallo blows away Olive Garden. I had the Penne Romo($ 15) and my wife had the Eggplant Rollatine($ 15). Both were tasty. My only complaint would be some gristle on the all white meat chicken pieces. The warm loaf of bread with seasoned evoo was very good. The tiramisu dessert was killer! Reminded me of my trip to Florence. Service was good. Overall a solid meal at reasonable prices.

Though it has a new name and a new owner this is very much the same place as it was before. Décor is changed minimally but it is fine in its simplicity. Service was excellent. It seems much of the staff has remained. We enjoyed our meals. My ziti with giant shrimp was very good, though the pasta fagiole was average. The other meals at our table were well liked. Nothing great, but in all an acceptable dining experience.

Visited for lunch today for the first time. I liked the décor and the waitress was very friendly, but the bus person must have been off as no one offered to pour water… the menu was less than inspiring. I tried the calzone which comes with pesto, marinara or ricotta filling… I’ve never had a calzone where the ricotta was optional. The bread and dipping oil was nice. The calzone looked nice and the first 2 bites were good, but the vegetable were cold and the mozzarella was not melted. I add them to heat up, but the microwaved it. The return meal was hot, but the nice crust was now soggy. The coffee was also weak and almost flavorless… not likely to revisit.

I disagree with Most of the reviews, I really like the décor and a full service bar is very uncommon in Flemington. The issue is the food, I think it may be a notch below Olive Garden! How can a chef make such a wonderful product at his main location and strikeout this badly!

Last Saturday I gave this place a try since I live so close to it. I was happy to see the Bensi changed into a better quality Italian restaurant. I thought it was funny all the décor was the same inside. The outside seating was nice, not a lot of cars driving back and forth. Good friendly service. The house bread they gave was amazing! We ordered the stuff mushrooms, salmon, and chicken trio. Everything was really tasty. I would go again. The prices were reasonable for the portion size.

So — tried this place for the first time despite the 2 star rating. Service was excellent and attentive and the highlight. Food quality and taste were solid — potato crusted salmon very good, penne romo good, grilled sea scallops tasty, tilapia Francese good. Salads(included in the meal) were usual pizzeria caliber, bread was good and amply provided. Kids enjoyed the lava cake and cheesecake for dessert. and while we did not order it, the tartufo looked pretty yummy. Still some kinks to work out overall –but clearly they are trying! Not sure if they will last given the stiff competition in the area for the same kind of food. Good luck!

I was very excited to try this restaurant as I felt that Flemington really needed a GOOD Italian restaurant. I was especially hopeful since I had heard that it was purchased by the owner of Matt’s Red Rooster where I have always had a wonderful experience. Unfortunately, the food was simply terrible. Salads were dinky with disappointing tasteless dressing. We never received bread, although we asked for it, and my friend and I thought we were playing it safe and ordered chicken… we both agreed that we have gotten better chicken dishes from the local pizza shop and paid a whole lot less. The food basically reminded me of the mass made, catered food you get in those big disposable tinfoil trays at parties. Hardly the«falling in love» experience they claim on their website. Food aside, the atmosphere is not good, no different from when it was the cold, uncomfortable Bensi. Definitely has that unappealing chain restaurant feel as was stated by another reviewer. Lastly, I would have to say that my biggest complaint was the service!!! My gf and I had not seen each other in some time and were really looking forward to catching up. It was the middle of the week, we met at 6:00 and the restaurant was hardly full. Our unfriendly waiter was downright obnoxious, pushy and it was clear that his only intention was to get us out of there as soon as he could(maybe the reason we were not served the bread we asked for?). He attempted to clear our salads while we were still eating them and we had to hold onto the dish to prevent him from taking them away… our plates still had salad on them and we were clearly no where near finished with them. After being questioned three times if we were done, we just gave up and let him take them away before finishing them, which wasn’t the worst thing that could happen as they were pretty disappointing salads. Then again, without exaggeration, he asked me if he could wrap up my chicken THREETIMES within 15 minutes of getting my food and while I was still chewing, fork and knife in hand, full plate, cutting my chicken… and chewing! There was absolutely no sign that I was even nearly ready to be done with my meal, he did the same to my friend and then the same thing happened with our tea and coffee. I have never in my life felt so rushed through a meal. Our dinner was a blur and we are already planning another night out to make up for the fact that we were truly unable to get a conversation going with the pushy service and constant interruptions. Neither of us will ever go back. I can easily say that I have had better food and service at the Frank’s in the Walmart Plaza in Clinton. no rush, cheaper and overall better tasting.

Another uninspired Italian restaurant is not what Flemington needs… actually NO town needs uninspired Italian food. The excellent reputation of Matt McPherson got me back to former BENSI but once inside it felt like the same-old-same. Bad lasagna, really? Bread that’s got no flavor served with the saddest salad I’ve ever seen and a dressing on-the-side I had to send back because of it’s saltiness, really? A chicken parm cutlet that«tasted» of the oil it was fried in, really? Make this restaurant either another fast food joint in a crowded marketplace or don’t but please don’t sell it is as something that it’s not, which is currently serving«classic Italian specialties from the heart of Tuscany», really?

First time at gr tonight. The bread is nice and the red pepper olive oil dip is good. Calamari fresh but the marinara sauce is not good. Had gnocchi bolognese. Gnocchi were most likely frozen. The sauce again was not authentic Italian. The sauce should be the foundation of the Italian restaurant. Glasses of wine are served from metered carafes and are not rounded up and down to the dollar. Weird feel. Very much like an Olive Garden minus great salad. Very much a chain restaurant feel. Waiter asked if I wanted fresh cheese and red pepper and handed me 2 pizzeria-like shakers. Prices are decent but I feel do not reflect quality. I will stick to what Matt knows best at the Rooster.

My husband and I had a nice meal at Gallo Rosso. Days before, it had been Bensi of Flemington, but it now has new owner(s). We started with the Pesto Shrimp and Avocado Bruschetta appetizer, which was delicious. Then we each had the iceberg lettuce house salad that came with our dinners. The entrees that we had were good. The Chef’s Sampler consisted of small versions of 3 chicken entrees: Stuffed Chicken Pomodoro, Chicken Parmagiana, and Chicken Marsala –served with al dente-cooked penne pasta. We thought that all were good. We also tried the Potato-Crusted Salmon with Dijon Mustard and Diced Plum Tomatoes Sauce. That dish was especially delicious and I will definitely order it next time. It came with nicely cooked mixed vegetables and rice. However, instead of rice, I think that I would have preferred a potato side dish to go with that preparation of salmon. The restaurant serves liquor and we each had a nice glass of reasonably priced red wine with our meal — a Pinot Noir and a Malbec. It was a pleasant evening and we look forward to dining there again.
