This review will be more of an explanation of the current situation than anything. For as long as I can remember, Morey’s was on the corner of Main and Sandusky. Over the years, it had its name changed to the Main Street News and moved across the street near Reick’s. I believe it has changed a few hands since the turn of the century and really lost its identity in the process. After a filling breakfast from Marie’s, I shuffled my way down Main Street only to realize it was open. I hadn’t been in there for quite some time and dropped by to poke around. It was cozy with new and used books shelved everywhere. There is even a corner in the back where they keep greeting cards. After more digging, I found the old pop machine that was located in the back of Morey’s, tucked away in a recess of the wall. All of these were fragments of the past, though. The unfortunate part of this review is that Main Street News will be closing as of June 1st, 2011. I add the year, because this might stick around on Unilocal for a while. I’ve seen Fazoli’s is listed as a restaurant here in Findlay and it hasn’t been open since 2006 or so. Regardless, it appears the rent is just too much for slumping book and magazine sales and people are using a lot more digital media. It’s nothing I haven’t heard come out of the mouths of the Stately Raven people. So, for at least the next couple of weeks the books will be half off. I picked up a copy of the Bell Jar for 50 cents. That’s pretty cheap for dinner conversation.
