So I’m 6 months pregnant and had the worst craving for something sweet. I wanted to support a Black business so I dropped in, it was 30 minutes to closing. I asked the female owner what desserts they had and she reluctantly listed off what was available. I chose the peach cobbler. Then to my dismay and disgust she advised me that the minimum to use a debit card was $ 15! I walked out and will never return. Victoria’s Kitchen’s food is much better and thier service is exemplary. Skip Uptown… not worth it.

Nothing special especially for the price. Service is just ok. The lady at the front barely parted her lips to say hello. I was told she was the owner. The beef ribs were salty and tough. I wanted to pay with my card but they have a $ 15 minimum for card purchases. I thought that was illegal. Go down the street to Victoria’s. The people are nicer and the food is better.

Food is really good here. I usually order the same thing fish platter with mac & cheese. I used to get the cabbage, but it’s just not good. Place is nice, but the owner(wife) on two separate occasions never said thank you. Never smiles. Not the friendliest. Never to return. Today was the last time. I’ve sent lots of ppl here and I won’t send anymore.

The sides are really great. Loved the Mac and cheese and the yams(not too much sugar). I ordered ½ a slab of BBQ beef ribs and the meat was tough. The sauce was good but I would suggest using a higher quality meat. The service here was bad. The waitress acted like she didn’t want to be there and spilled my friend’s beans on the table and didn’t bother to replace them. They gave us grief about taking them off of the bill(she didn’t even eat them). It is not anything spectacular so I wouldn’t go out of my way to go back again.

Love this place. Very nice interior, although sometimes it gets a little smokey in the kitchen area and makes my eyes water when I’m sitting in the dining area. But the food more than makes up for a little discomfort. Food is seasoned to perfection and the staff is friendly and makes you feel welcome, even if you’re just getting take out. Haven’t any of the BBQ yet but that will definitely be next on my list. Very reasonable prices and you get a decent sized portion.

I typically go to Uptown Soul Food on a whim, not because the food isn’t good but not typically over in that section and Victoria’s is my soul food go to. Went there with a friend on Sunday and got the friend fish with mac & cheese and yams. I don’t know what that man did to that food, perhaps put his foot in it but it was so good. So much so that when I got home let it sit for awhile and ate the lone piece of fish that I had left over, ate it cold and it was still crispy, never ever had that occur before. Other visits the food has been good, I love their string beans but the time prior to this I went and they were a little bland so I didn’t go for them Sunday now I wish I did I think it had to do with the particular cook on duty that day everything was well seasoned. The sweet potatoes I thought were going to lack flavor the liquid looked a bit too loose(vs. a thicker syrup that I’m use to) but they were perfect as well. My friend had the Jerked Chicken, potato salad and mac and she said she enjoyed her food as well. Overall nice spot and the owner is always friendly and super helpful.

My husband and I get takeout from here about once every other month when we are craving BBQ. It definitely feels better to support a small family restaurant as opposed to going to a franchise place. However, I feel that service has been lacking recently. Last visit, the ribs were so salty and dry we couldn’t finish them, and yesterday, they didn’t have corn bread or honor our church bulletin for 10% off as advertised on the website. I’d love to continue frequenting this spot as their portions are generous and the BBQ sauce is delicious but we may be looking for a new place to satisfy our cravings if the subpar experiences continue.

Greens and Cabbage were great. The pork ribs were out of this world. Best Sauce I ever had! Pick it up on your way home. Great place with friendly service.

I got take-out. This place is impressive inside and I think the way to go is to eat-in. Staff was excellent and attentive. Chicken was delicious. The BBQ sauce should be patented, it’s that good. The baked beans and cole slaw are two of the best I’ve had anywhere in the country. I am eager to try the fish selections. Overall, very good, but room for improvement on the pork ribs(did not try beef). They didn’t fall off the bone. Will go back for sure.

They kick ass. This is not a Jamaican spot, but hands down the best jerk I’ve had this side of Brooklyn. Ribs, sweet potatoes, greens, cabbage, mac & cheese, BBQ chicken… everything works here… but the jerk is the best I’ve had in Philly… sorry Sunday’s Best.
