It isn’t closed, it just shortened its name to U bar. But clearly the U is for uncles! Still the same place, a comfortable spot to get a drink with no pressures.

Unilocal needs to update this place– it’s U bar now. Cleaned up and so much nicer! Still has the nice large windows that open up to the street and obviously REALLY strong drinks. We always get great service and have a blast here.

Uncle’s is getting a face lift… more like a whole new face… they say that it will reopen around Sept 5… New name will be U Bar… sounds like it will no longer be a dive.

Just the right spot to enjoy an afternoon alcoholic beverage! The mood is pleasantly social and light. George is really an attentive bartender to all of his customers. It’s a great time to be had, every time!

I forgot how much i missed this place. Watch out for the drinks they are really strong. Just 2 or 3 you will be on your ass. Its a good place to go before you go to Woody’s.

One of the few divey bars left in center city/gayborhood. It is cash only but super cheap Very chill slightly older crowd. One of my favorite places to go for a drink prior to going out.

Let me preface by saying I love dive bars. Uncles has all the right stuff, they don’t take plastic, the beer selection is limited, and it’s the juke box and people chatting is the most exciting thing happening. Good stuff. I knock them down a star because one of the greatest features of most dive bars is a special. It doesn’t have to be top quality booze or anything, just a special, like a $ 2 bottle of beer or hell, even a can! Uncles lacks in this area. I like my dive bars to lure me, flirt me, make me feel special. So it’s a friendly place, the bartender will be attentive, and you can watch the Simpson’s or listen to what is on the jukebox. Just bring cash.

A little claustrophobic, with the small bar area, but a friendly crowd. The bartenders could be a little more attentive, but a large part of it is the area available inside the bar area. Once was enough for me, but for the locals, I can understand why they may appreciate it.

I’ve had some good times at Uncles. I’m sure they were memorable, although I can’t promise that I really remember them. As a young, straight, female I am definitely in the minority at Uncles, but that doesn’t bother anyone. I am always warmly welcomed and served very strong drinks. Very strong cheap drinks. How could you go wrong?

I was in town for business for over a month both last spring and this late fall and found Uncles to my go-to spot for a late evening nightcap. Its a neighborhood spot that does tend to draw an older crowd but after spending a few evenings there, you get the sense it’s more of the regulars than anything else. The bartenders are the draw to the place: always friendly and attentive and were the number one reason I kept coming back. It’s a good place to pull up a stool and just chill out. No drama, no attitude, and no frills.

It’s been established that this is a bar for older gay men. I happened to be with some. The place was friendly though I was a bit disturbed by the panopticon layout. There is an oval bar that more or less takes up the whole place, and all the walls are mirrored. All the walls are mirrored. All the walls are mirrored. I couldn’t get away from myself. I love the bathroom doors: uncles and aunts.

A dive bar at it’s best! Staff are friendly and always checking up on you to make sure your drink never sees the bottom of the glass! Great prices too! It is tiny and the clientelle is a little older. But who cares as long as you are having fun and making new friends right? The windows/doors(veranda?) open up to the outside so you can sit by the doors and watch the people go by. Video jukebox to spill out the tunes of your choice. I definitely would come back!

Uncle’s is exactly what you would expect from a place called Uncle’s. It’s a pretty seedy little divey gay bar with an older clientele. My friend Bob and I hit up Uncle’s on my birthday just for the fun of it. And it was pretty fun. We played some eighties music on the juke and had cocktails. They have no beer on draft and there weren’t any bottle options that struck my fancy. The bartender bought me a Jameson on the rocks for my birthday and Bob had a martini. He noted that it «put the teeny in Martini,» which I thought was hilarious, and accurate. It was a traditional 3 oz martini glass, but just not what we’re used to anymore. The bar is a tiny little oval shaped deal with mirrors all around. I suggested that this was so that patrons could cruise each other without being noticed and this seems like a strong possibility.
