This is the best Jamaican restaurant in all of Philadelphia. I have visited and tried almost every single Jamaican restaurant in Philadelphia because I do not live close to Top Taste and pass by many on the way. I have been going to top taste for almost 20 years now and the food is always always always good. Big ups to the chefs that make the food correctly the first time every single time. If you want to know how OX tail is supposed to taste, visit Top Taste and find out. The only thing bad I would have to say is that the Oxtail sells out really fast so you need to get there before 4 oclock or you will have to get a different one of there many awesome dishes. And one other thing. I got a ginormous ticket one day even though there was only a short wait for my food. On another note, I have not learned the names of all the cashiers which are all so beautiful. Since I am not single, I would marry one of these women in a heart beat if they could cook like this for me.

I ordered the pepper steak my first time here, last night. I don’t even like pepper steak, but the customer before me was eating it and it looked delicious, so I decided to try it and it was totally worth the risk. The portions are great. I was full, but couldn’t stop eating and still had enough left to take home to my girlfriend AND bring for lunch today. I recommend this place for good food. My only complaint, and the only reason they didn’t get a 5th star, is because of the outside solicitation they allow. I dined in and a man was trying to sell me bootlegged DVDs and telling me they were original because they were downloaded from his computer. This is not what I expect or want to deal with while eating my dinner, but I suppose that comes with the neighborhood. Nonetheless, I would definitely come here again.

I’m not sure why my experience was so different from the others but mine sucked! The brown stew chicken was not good after the first taste. The rice and peas was mushy and not good. They were out of plaintains so I had to get cabbage. The cabbage was flavorless. The food sucked but the service was worse. Barely got a hello when walking in the door. The female that assisted us seemed annoyed that I asked for a taste first. The only reason I gave it two stars is because the large portion would have been enough for three meals had I enjoyed it, instead its going in the trash with about 1⁄3(if that eaten.) I am in a hotel so I had to eat something. I will never support this place again and suggest that you don’t either. The only reason I ended up ordering from here after the stank attitude is because my hotel shuttle was waiting outside and other people who got food from other places(and much better service also) were waiting to get back to their rooms to eat. Did I mention that I was dissaponted? Oh, I did. Let me say it once again for effect… SODISAPPOINTING!

The best Jamaican food in West Philadelphia by far. Their food is flavorful, without being too salty, and the oxtail is always braised to perfection. It is my favorite dish that they make and I’ve never had to suffer through a hard to eat piece. Their fish is made to order(fresh) so don’t get it if you don’t have time to wait. The jerk is nice and spivey, as it should be! I do advise that you go early if you want to get the oxtail cause it is usually gone by dinner time. Enjoy!

The red snapper is the best! The portions are huge. I had 3 meals out of it. I want to try other options but the snapper is so good I keep getting that. I really want to try the oxtail next time. I saw someone else’s meal and it looked great.

This is the Best Jamaican Food in the city of a Philly by far. The jerk chicken to the oxtail to the pepper steak. I eat here like 2 a week almost. They give you so much food in a platter I take half for lunch at work. On the weekends it’s a long line tho lol.

Best Caribbean food in west philly! An Amazing and warm family too, …what more could you want? If you didn’t grow up eating oxtail, just try theirs anyway!

Great Food, but you should always know to never go to a caribbean restaurant an hour before they are closing. They will run out of everything possible. Actually, my caution should read, «Don’t go to a caribbean restaurant wanting to be picky about what you are getting an hour before they close.» Also, a lot of places bland down their jerk. Not Top Taste. Their jerk is definitely on the spicy side.

I reallllly wanted to enjoy my food. The cashier and server were both very friendly and the meal was made just how I asked for it and they showed it to me for approval and I couldn’t wait to get my jerk chicken, rice & peas, cabbage and oxtail gravy home. Immediately when biting into a spoonful of rice and gravy, i tasted nothing but SALT. The same happened with the chicken too, it tasted like my food was doused in salt it was overpowering and not in a good way.

I do not understand what all the fuss is about. The principal seasoning in the sauces is MSG! The taste of it is overpowering. I also have an MSG sensitivity and this stuff is setting it off like crazy. Aside from the MSG, the sauces are bland and not good. I grew up in a Caribbean family and this food is pretty unacceptable to me and I would never think of putting it in front of my Momma!

Best Caribbean food I’ve had in Philadelphia. The rice and peas are ridiculous. The curry goat and brown stew chicken are awesome. A must see for true Caribbean food. Get there early for the curry goat. It runs out fast.

I’ve been eating here for years since before the remodel when it was just a hole in the wall with bullet holes in the windows… It is simply the best jamaican food on the entire east coast… I travel alot between new York and Philly… This place is really authentic. Not that stuff people try to say is jerk but tastes like BBQ… Huge platters for cheap… Rice and peas are perfect, cabbage is perfect… Ask for extra gravy… I’m tellin you. As good or better than alot of Jamaican I ate in Jamaica!

So this past Monday I was walking to work and decided to get some Jamaican food. With more than one place to choose from I decided to go with the one that just specialized in authentic Jamaican cuisine, Top Taste. The décor was so so but I didn’t care about that because I was going to grab and go. Now before I go any further, if you are looking for 4 or 5 star treatment this is not the place to go. The staff isn’t going to be warm and inviting but they will be fast and give you a lot of good food. The jerk chicken was very flavorful and tender, the peas and rice cooked to perfection and the cabbage was nice too. They have two platters sizes, small $ 9 and large $ 11. I had the small and it was huge! They have a decent selection of food and a few veggie items I believe. So if you are ever on 52nd Street going towards Arch street give it a try.
