As nice as Netflix may be, they can’t completely replace the experience of going into a video store and just browsing. What I like about TLA is that they have a huge selection from the mainstream to the obscure. The staff is generally nice, but I sometimes find myself having a hard time remembering the title to a movie and I hate getting the stink eye when I take the box to the counter.

OK all you Unilocalers this it the place to support the local small business. It has Netflix, on demand or whatever the net can cook up, until the net can make it personal and offer super fast on the spot human interaction, you can have your netflix. It has the most popular or offbeat movies handsdown and can get them faster then netflix. Plus it helps as others have said, they are very friendly. Always give great selections. As the saying goes LIVEON and profit TLA here to hoping you last along time. YOU have my support. Not a netflix yet, Yippie! Also great prices too.

I don’t care what anyone says… Netflix is not and never will be an acceptable substitute for stores like TLA. Half the fun in renting movies is going to the store, browsing the boxes, taking forever to make up your mind, consulting the expert staff for recommendations. Do your part to support local, interesting business… rent at TLA!!!

There may be a wide selection of videos, but don’t ever forget you took one out. We made that mistake and wound up buying the movie at more than its full original cost AND paying a week’s late fee. For this cost, we could have had almost three months of Netflix! The owner was also unpleasant as well as rigid. Very poor PR for his business. Also gave info which wasn’t consistent with what his employee had told us. This is really too bad, since we like supporting local businesses… but not if they act like that!

If you’re looking for it, and it exists on home video, TLA has it. The way its movies are organized can take a little getting used to, but the staff is pretty helpful. Forget Blockbuster, forget Hollywood Video. They rarely have what I’m looking for. If you fear that the movie you want is obscure, or may not be available on home video, I would encourage you to stop in to TLA first.

If you don’t use Netflix and you’re not super excited to browse the new releases at Blockbuster, try TLA. They seem to have the best selection of mainstream and unconventional films, as well as a discrete porno section. The staff seems to be primarily friendly film buffs and I’m pretty sure it’s locally owned. Strange trivia: My 80 year old grandmother in California has a movie review book published by TLA. I’m not sure where it came from, she’s never been out here(since WWII at least…).

Yes, it’s true… I am a Netflix convert. And I know that’s not what the TLA folks of the world want to hear. But before you crank up the Belle & Sebastian(which seems to be required listening for the amazingly adorable hipster guys who work there) hear me out. When I get a hankerin’ for a film that I just have to see immediately, I hop in the car, bypassing at least 4 other video stores along the way, and make a beeline for TLA. I don’t especially love the fact that you get the stinkeye if you mistakenly bring the DVD box up to the counter when you make your request but sorry, dudes. I have a serious short term memory problem.(I’ll try harder to remember the name of the obscure film I want to see; last time I wrote it on my hand so I wouldn’t embarrass myself at the register). But I love the fact that the staff there really knows their stuff. And they don’t make me feel like a dummy when I request seasons 1 – 4 of the L Word all at one time. And, because it bears repeating, they are cutie pies. Ladies(and film buffs), take note.
