Rosin Box carries a good selection of pointe shoes, a moderate selection of shoes for other dance styles, and a small stock of dancewear, mainly limited by square footage. Len and his sister have been friendly and informed when I went in to try on shoes, and they are also willing to special order items in for you. I really like the laidback atmosphere– in the bottom of a rowhouse so you’re essentially in a parlor(w/fireplace) and dining room, and the two big cute cats that sometimes check out what’s going on. For ballroom/latin shoes, they carry a few styles of Freeds, Capezios, Stephanie brands maybe International or Supadance? and the Grishkos mentioned by Neha(although they may have stopped ordering the Grishkos b/c of the price point). Honestly for your first pairs of shoes, being able to fit correctly by trying them on is priceless, and you can support your local small business owner.

Dogs may be a man’s best friend, but shoes are certainly a woman’s best friend. I just started taking salsa and tango classes, but I always showed up in my chucks… so after 6 lessons, I thought it was time to show my seriousness and buy a pair of dance shoes. I went Tango dancing last Saturday night at South Street Studio(1527 South St), and Meredith Klein had recommended this place to me. I was a little taken aback at first, because I’m a novice in the dancing department and I mentioned that and the [only] guy present seemed a little impatient and/or rude. However, he must have been annoyed at something else because he eventually snapped out of it and warmed up to me. I tried on a bunch of different shoes, and he told me the difference between each one and explained which one you would where at which time, at which event, and which brands are more reliable and worth the cost of the shoe, how the shoe should be taken care of, etc. I loved how detailed he was. Fortunately I had some time to spend there because I didn’t want to rush this purchase. I still wasn’t sure about which shoe to buy, and then a light goes off in his head and he says, «ah! I have the perfect shoe for you, and I believe I only have your size left!» Boy. He knew what he was talking about. I fell in love with them: the fit, the color, not so much the price… and he was so funny, he called me his cinderella cause apparently these shoes run small.(These are the shoes I bought: ) All in all, I had a good experience here. I especially recommend it for dancing shoes and clothes and accessories! Despite the small appearance, they can fit a lot of shoes. Oh Shoes Shoes Shoes.
