This place is now closed and replaced by another restaurant with a different name. However their sign still appears off Tabor Road. Anyway, I had an Entertainment coupon Buy 1 Get 1 Free and asked them if they would honor it… They said no. There was 1 customer at the time(Sunday afternoon). Fair enough, will never return. We went to El Balconcito instead which was packed and very very delicious & good experience.

Wanted to love it, but just can’t find the love for Taste of Portugal. My Pork and Clams(Carne de Porco à Alentejana) was just fair. The pork was tough and chewy, as if it had not been braised enough, the four clams added little clammy goodness to the dish and the french-fried potato cubes where a strange substitute for braised potatoes cooked in the juices of pork and clams. I did like the salsa verde that bathed our shrimp and scallop dish(Camarão e Escalopes con Salsa Verde), but both beef dishes we had(Bife à Portuguesa and Bifinhos a Madeira) lacked depth of flavor and the Portuguese bread tasted days old. The service was good, but the nearly empty restaurant and the dated décor suggested that Taste of Portugal had seen some better days. It appears that it is coasting into its twilight years. A shame, since with a bit more determination and some more TLC in the kitchen, Taste of Portugal could be dynamite.

Love this place. Admittedly, I’m not very well versed in Portuguese cuisine as this is the only Portuguese restaurant I’ve ever been to, but authentic or not, the food is outstanding! Homemade Sangria is fabulous and a good value at 20.00 per pitcher. Olives and fresh rolls are offered prior to the meal. The food always seems to take a while to come out regardless of how crowded the place is. I think that speaks to the homemade nature of the food. I typically get the pork and clams(Pork cubes, clams and roasted potatoes) which is large enough for three meals. My MMM(Main Man Muncher) usually gets Paella which is equally as large. I will say that no matter the season, the restaurant is usually chilly, so bring a sweater.

i’m from los angeles, so i am familiar with the fact that most of the best food in the united states can be found in strip malls in the shitty suburbs. i stumbled across this joint while grabbing my usual vietnamese food lunch. nestled between a mcdonalds, a phở joint, and a liquor store with the worst wine selection i’ve seen in a long time, is this physically unremarkable restaurant. i stepped in and looked at the menu, but the thing that i noticed was that every table was construction boss looking portuguese folks, all drinking chilled red wine and glasses of remy. fucking gangster! i love that shit. and they really do it up. there is a whole routine to heating up the glass with flaming remy, leaving some smoke in the glass as its served. the lunch specials were between 9 and 14 bux, the portions are large. i had a grilled whole trout stuffed with crab meat and served with potatos, green beans, broccoli and carrots. this isn’t fussy fine dining, but good honest hearty rustic stuff. the roast chicken wrapped with bacon looked great. i will defintely be back. i chatted with the staff as i waited for my food. they were super cool and they told me they have a guy who makes natas. but they have to be eaten right out of the oven in my opinion. i was only in lisbon for a few days, but i like the familiar vibe here. like its a hub of the local portuguese community. will definitely be back to explore more of the menu like the bacalao or the paelha marinheira

Paelha Marinheira Seafood combination in Saffron rice (Consist of Lobster, shrimp, clams, mussels, calamari & scallops) That’s what I get everytime I am here, a great place to eat good food with a big group of people. The Paelha Marinheira is served in a pan, with enough food for two, so it seems. It is however so good that I never had to share, nor did I ask for a doggie bag. This is a great place to eat Portuguese food. Rumor is that if you share the Paelha Marinheira that you have to pay both, for the same pan. According to others, the other items on the menu are as good as they sound.
