Good beer and the bartenders are awesome. Food isn’t that great tho.

Amazing pizza! This place is a hidden gem. Ignore the scaffolding. The staff and atmosphere are fantastic. Bring your friends for a fun filled evening.

Came in here while bar hopping on a Saturday afternoon. We actually didn’t even think it was open except for the board advertising specials out on the sidewalk. It’s up a few steps surrounded by scaffolding, very easy to mistake for not even being there or being open. When we walked in, we were shocked to find out we were the only people there — literally the only customers. The tap list was good, service was kind and prompt — as it should, being the only customers. However it wasn’t the vibe we were looking for so we left after 1 beer. I hope they survive, nobody likes walking through a construction site to get to a bar.

Had their original burger, which was average at best. Beer selection was decent. The overwhelming issue is that this place is in an old piano bar, and they clearly put very little effort into revamping and renovating the place. Overall given the messy ambiance and weak food, I won’t be going back. There are just too many other great bars in Philly near here to settle.

A large group and I live a few blocks from here and stumbled upon the free happy hour event on Friday. The layout was weird. The bartenders were extremely rude. I could tell their by their attitudes that it was a free happy hour, so the motivation to go above and beyond for the customer was not existent. Well guess what? That was your opportunity to get this large crowd back through those doors again as paying customers. We left as soon as the happy hour was over and will not be back. The general consensus from everyone we spoke too was several of the bartenders around the main bar were slow inexperienced and unpleasant.

Food seemed pretty good. Drinks seemed pretty good. Musician entertaining crowd good. ADA compliance epic FAIL. Have to walk up stairs to get in and have to walk downstairs to get to the bathroom. Sucks if you have a temporary injury or permanent disability.

In a nutshell: If you’re considering this place, move on. There are so many other great restaurants nearby don’t waste your time on this one. First of all, the food is average to horrible. My friends ordered the mac and cheese, cheese dip, and kamari. It was all just«meh.» I ordered the fried brie and it was awful. It was literally fried to the crisp with nasty chutney and stale pita chips. To top it all off, this place was just weird. The layout was odd, the entrance had a bouncer and there was a bathroom attendant(not to mention awkward mirrors by the urinals). If you walk by here, keep on moving.

TREMENDOUS!!! There is no doubt that this will be the new hot spot once the word gets out there… Place is a great looking place but even better than the way it looked was the experience. The food was the best gastropub food I have ever had… Our server was very nice and informative and the manager that came over to see how our meal was was great as well. Will definitely be back and back often!!!

Scaffolding can plague even the best of restaurants(RIP Treemont), and that’s likely what’s keeping the crowds away at this hidden gem. In fact, gems just don’t get much more hidden than this. A shame, because when you finally find it you are definitely going to be happy with what you’ve found. Walk down Locust and… WAIT, you just passed it. See the scaffolding back there, where that horrible place Duel used to be? That’s it! It’s called Tap and Kitchen now and the food is among the best a non-fine dining institution can offer. The interior is pleasant, with enough wood surfaces and open space to disguise it as a run-of-the-mill sit & drink spot. But when the highly attentive and courteous waitress starting dropping terms like«balsamic reduction» and«ginger chutney», we felt we had been deceived in a good way. This isn’t a place to get wasted at all! No, it’s a place to actually have a memorable pub meal. So ignore all distractions, such as the website’s promises of getting«black out» on Thanksgiving Eve. Instead, focus on the menu: the perfectly fried brie, encrusted with cornflakes and a side of equally crispy assorted flatbreads. The blackened steak tips, cooked so delicately you might think it was just delivered from Butcher & Singer. The fish tacos which weren’t lazily smothered but instead delicately glazed with a seasoned crema, and served with fries. Who does that? Who gives you the sheer delight of getting fries with your tacos? You’ve always wanted it, but no one wanted to give it to you… until now. Tap & Kitchen gives you what you want. Delicious food better than you think it’s going to be. The element of surprise really makes this comfortable tavern, which put out better plates than some of my recent white-tablecloth experiences. So please, T&K, for everyone’s sake, put out a sandwich board, or cover the entire restaurant in neon arrows pointing to the door. Whatever it takes… just don’t let your delicious food hide behind the scaffolding of a once terrible frat-boy piano bar. We all know this is a thousand times better.

Tap & Kitchen was surprisingly refreshing. Boasting 24 crafts on tap amazing service and a phenomenal menu with quality food and even better presentation. Jill was extremely helpful as I sampled 10 of the 24 beers on tap and was desperate for food before I made a decision on drinks. The fried brie paired with a cranberry chutney that tastes more like a really good cranberry topping from Emeril’s thanksgiving menu. We also had the steak tips and garlic Parmesan wings which were fried extremely hard and tasty as anything. Enough of my rant if your local or in the neighborhood looking for an amazing craft selection check it out.

This place is new on the block and they have some sad bartenders along with the good, but the managers are top notch. Sam and JB were both super responsive and really focused on making it a great experience. Tons of potential.

I don’t usually write reviews so soon after a new spot opens, but I can’t resist with this one. I see absolute potential with these guys. They opened October 28th, and they’re already off to a great start! We came in the day after Halloween(aka today), so the restaurant was experiencing a post-holiday lull/recovery. Our small group sat at the bar after browsing the menu, and the bartender on, Bill, was super helpful. They were out of beer lists thanks to their Halloween event, so Bill listed off each beer until we finally decided on one: Cape May’s Apple Bomb! They have some other great stuff on, like Great Divide’s Yeti. They also have the basic domestics, if you’re into that kind of thing. I ordered the fried brie and it was okay. The bread it came with wasn’t the best, but the brie was similar to a mozzarella stick and went well with the cranberry compote. My friend had the chicken caesar salad flatbread since the pizzas aren’t yet available, and said the flatbread was great. I’ll have to go back and try that. Or their burger. That also looked fantastic. It was a little hard to find this place at first. It was hidden behind a long row of tractor trailers from our side of the street and right next to a big construction project. But the whole atmosphere was really welcoming — a crapton of TVs and open garage-door-like clear doors behind the bar. I took a photo so you can see what I’m failing to describe. Looking forward to a return trip soon!

The owner came out and is working hard to show how great the new beer bar is. All the staff are very pleasant.
