South Philly Bar and Grill is amazing! I took the sandwich challenge and failed miserably, but the sandwich is really good!!! I had Mariel as a server and she was awesome!!! Definitely recommend Mariel and the South Philly Bar and Grill!

I stopped in here on a Sunday to catch the Giants game and it was a fairly pleasant experience. If you’re into sports, this is a place that you want to be. There are televisions everywhere and typically specials during Philadelphia sports games. If you’re watching an out of market game, the staff will put it on one of the televisions for you. I believe they have both Comcast and DirectTV so you can catch everything. The beer selection is not huge but it works for a sports themed bar. Prices seem to be in-line with what you’d expect. I can’t speak to the food. One positive point which I got to witness while I was there. They will not serve a visibly intoxicated person. I think this is a classy move and makes me feel good about going back to this bar. It seems like their staff is trained to keep out any potential trouble.

The food gave me indigestion from the poor quality of it. The waitress, despite us being the only ones there, came by gave us a pitcher for our drinks(we were all drinking diet coke) and then never came back to see how we were doing on drinks, and even though we asked for more drinks when she brought the food she didn’t bring us anything. And when we asked for our checks she brought us only one and then said that they couldn’t be split up because we didn’t say so from the beginning and she also instituted a mandatory 22 percent gratuity on the bill when there was only 4 of us none of us ordered alcohol, and the only the only things that were ordered were aforementioned drinks, two Philly cheese steaks and 2 appetizers. I now know why the place was empty during dinner rush. With Pat’s and Gino’s right there this place doesn’t deserve to be open. In short the food was terrible, the service is something out of fiction it’s so bad and they demand a 22 percent gratuity for it all. I will never come back here and I will warn everyone I know against this place.

Great beer and fries but service not very punctual and the food I was given has rotten tomatoes in it and the shrimp was mushy and over boiled. All the tables were dirty too. Philly cheese steak not too bad thu. When asked if we could have a refund for the shrimp and told about the rotten tomatoes the waitress just sneered and said she did it herself so it had to be fresh. Then walked away… She did give us a refund thu Genos and pats next door have much better reputations

Update(8÷22÷15): Happened again last night, same asshole, same result. Apparently assaulting customers and passers-by isn’t enough to get someone flagged from this dump.

I live right around the corner from this place and I have no idea how it stays in business. The atmosphere is generic and out of touch, and the bar staff are slow and unfriendly. With Garage right next door and Triangle Lounge re-opening right around the corner, I’m counting the days until this place goes belly-up. I think the place is staying in business on pride alone. With all the foot traffic this area generates, it would be nice to see something more original and unique occupy this place.

Food was good when it finally came out. Service was extremely slow because they only one person working as waitress/bartender /busboy. She, I think her name is Jade, was very nice & did her best but they need to hire more staff. We waited about 30 mins to get our beer because they ran out of glasses and she was too busy to wash them. Again, not her fault because they were short staffed. She was doing the best that she could. Our group of 14 ate at different intervals because the food wasn’t brought out at the same time. As a result some in the group were finished eating when others were just starting. Oh and everyone had the $ 10 special: philly cheese steak, fried and a Miller draft beer. They need a waitress, a bartender, cook & busboy who, when needed, can help in the other areas.

Service was horrible! My wife and her friend order the full meal and drinks from this place and I went to Geno’s. When I went back to join them I was refused entry to sit with them. I even asked if I buy a beer can I seat and eat with them they still said no. I usually don’t write posts but for real, you deny paying customers the right to have friends over!!!

This place is nicely located across from Pat’s King of Steaks. It has a nice, relaxed atmosphere. They have a good selection of tap beers. And they play a ton of 90’s dance/pop, which is kind of funny. I went there on a Saturday afternoon with a few friends and it was very chill with only a few other people there. All-in-all, a fine place to duck in for a drink or two.

I was really hungry on a Sunday night and after I had finished I was craving for Pats and Genos. Little did I know there was this place called South Philly Bar and Grille whom also served cheesesteaks. I saw there 9 dollar cheesesteak special so I decided to stop in at the bar for a quick drink and steak. I was only planning on having one but the bartender(Mariel I think her name was) was so friendly I wounded up staying for a few hours and tried several of there draft beers. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food and service. I’ll definitely be back again on a late night for more friendly service, food and drinks.

This place wasn’t bad. It was a lot better than Ish Kabibbles(spell check). It had flavor and was very filling. The waffle fries were good and seasoned well. However because they only had one worker working the entire bar and restaurant area, the service was ssssuuppoeeerrrr slow. Someone had to come from the back and help take orders. I’ve only tried 2 Cheesesteak places in philly so I can’t say its the best but I can say it’s the best when comparing to Ish Kabibbles.

One of the worst bars in the area. Lacking any sort of identity or charm.

Food was great, second time we have eaten here. Bartender left a lot to be desired. In attentive, poured our refills into our already used glasses, and took 15 minutes to get our tab. Oh just realized she didn’t honor the special of the day. I will probably come back, but turn around if she is behind bar.

If you want a good authentic philly cheese steak and don’t wish to be disappointed by other places across the street, hint they were both on food network, then go here grab a beer and dig in get your sandwich with american cheese and onions.

Went here on a Wednesday last month because pf their Mexican themed specials. The margaritas were good and $ 10 for a pitcher is nice price. I had the chicken quesadilla which was very good. The bartender was very friendly and provided good service. We were there for the 7th game of the world series and the place was dead. There was maybe 10 other people at the bar and this place fancies itself a sports bar. There is a large round bar with a dining area as well so the place can hold a lot of people. One minor annoyance was the fact that they didn’t have any corona ponies in stock even though a bucket of ponies was one of the specials. Like I said, the place was dead so it’s not like they ran out due to selling a lot. Overall this is a place I would return to as it was a pleasant experience.

Update: I just checked my credit card statement, and noticed I was charged twice. Our bill was close to $ 100, and my friend and I decided to split it. I found out, however, his card was not charged, and mine was charged twice. I can understand that there is a margin for human error, but c’mon, there were MAYBE4 groups of people in there. I really don’t understand how you can mess that up. SPB&G was honestly hanging at a 3 star due to rounding rules, but this really sets them back to a 2. I called already, but they don’t open until 11. So, this has yet to be sorted out. Either way, yeesh.

Can get touristy pretty quick considering its proximity to Pat’s and Geno’s but considering I live close too convenience is all. They have lots of tv’s, pleasant staff, decent enough beer selection, and they sell cigars at the front counter. I usually bring suburban dwellers here when they visit because the commercial sports bar layout is comforting to them versus my usual dive bar habitation. Overall this place is simple with nice outdoor seating and always a easy place to watch the game, any game.

This place is pretty freaking lame! We ordered the sampler platter for two which consisted of two over fried cheese sticks, two over fried chicken tenders and about six buffalo wings for $ 14. You know when your grease is too high and the outside cooks well before the inside? This is how our food came out. What we received wasn’t worth $ 14, by far! Ashlei ordered a Yuengling for her and a vodka and cranberry for me(what about my long island, you ask?), we had already been drinking AND we saw how she made a long island for someone else and came to the conclusion that it wouldn’t be worth whatever they would charge. My drink was ___________________This much cranberry and ____this much vodka. The bartender was okay. Not overly nice, but not rude either. She was just… there! We only came here because we were leaving a gathering at a friend’s house that was a few blocks down the road. Next time, we’ll catch a cab to center city and hit up one of those bars for an after party. We were just overwhelmed by the entire {lack of} experience.

Not sure why so many people have given thus place a high rating. From the outside, it looks like a grungy sports bar. From the inside, it is a grungy sports bar. There are a million TVs tuned to different stations, enough to send you into seizures if you look up too often. They have signs everywhere mandating a minimum purchase to use the bathroom. Granted, we did come here just to use the bathroom(see my Pat’s review) but we’re classy enough that we would order a drink anyway. I resent being forced to follow basic etiquette, and those signs tell me something about the caliber of their patrons. Ditto the scary-looking bouncer. Not exactly an inviting atmosphere. We sat at the bar, where there was a surprisingly decent microbrew selection. Service was so-so: the bartender was more interested in socializing with the group at the other end than in paying attention to us. I’m giving two stars only because no one was outright rude and the beer was cold and complex. We didn’t try their food, but we also didn’t see a reason to.

This is a really nice sports bar, and the owner and staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome. I first discovered this place a few years ago when I was wandering around Philadelphia on my motorcycle. Eventually I got hungry, so I figured I’m in Philly, I should hit up Pat’s or Geno’s right? I couldn’t have been more wrong. It was about 100 degrees out, the lines were ridiculously long, and even if I ended up getting a steak from them of course what little seating either of these places have was completely full and I was in no mood to sit on the curb in the hot sun with all of my motorcycle gear and try and eat without making a mess. So I spotted SPB&G across the street. Nice, large sports bar, lots of TVs, and a rather extensive menu. The food is great, and the cheesesteak is better than what you’d get at the two famous places across the street, sans tourists and lines. It’s going on 3 years now and I still make it a point to stop by when I’m in Philadelphia. Last time we were there, the owner was training a couple of new staff members who were also guinea pigs for various shot concoctions. And we in turn, were their guinea pigs. Let’s just say it was an interesting visit. The new staff members were great, and I hope they’re still there. We’ll probably be riding down in a few weeks, so we’ll see. When you go, get some wings or a cheesesteak, get a tall glass of one of the many beers on tap, try one of their awesome desserts, and top it all off with a chocolate covered pretzel shot(yes chocolate pretzel shot, trust me and ask for it). Oh yes, this place is awesome. Please stop in here should you find yourself in the Philly area!
