Jenny needs bubbles in her water, so we have a sodastream that needs constant refilling. Their proprietary tanks are CRAZY expensive, so I took to the internet to find a better solution. After buying all the gear, I needed some bulk CO2, and this shop was close-ish to home. I drove over on Saturday morning, after a cup of coffee, expecting to be in and out. I got some very good information on CO2 tanks and had an extended conversation about cars with the very friendly, funny staff. I’ll definitely be going back once I need another refill, which, hopefully, won’t be for another year or so. But you never know, Jenny really likes those bubbles.

I go to South Philadelphia Propane & Weilding to get my 5lb CO2 tank filled. Both times I’ve been the guys(and gal) have been great. Why do I say they were great? After my tank ran out last week I planned on getting a pressure gauge. I asked the guy at SPP&W what I should get. He showed me some gauges and asked me a few questions about what I was using it for. Ultimately he explained that the gauges they had were overkill for my simple setup. He could have tried to sell me a $ 60 gauge or treated me like an idiot instead he helped me find a simple solution. The honest and helpful service will definitely keep me coming back for CO2, propane and other future needs.

When you need the propane tank filled so you can get your grill on, but you don’t have a car, it becomes quite a challenge. Although we belong to Enterprise Car Share, I didn’t want to drive around the city with a propane tank in the car. Luckily, a quick Unilocal search led me to South Philadelphia Propane, which is a few blocks from our house. The process couldn’t be easier. I rolled up in the car, a gentleman filled my propane tank and I paid him $ 20. I appreciated that he loaded the tank in the car for me because those tanks are quite heavy when filled. We’ll definitely be coming back soon for our propane needs, but next time, I’ll bring cash(there is a small surcharge for using cards).

homebrewers take note– this is a great family owned business where you can get a O2 tank, or CO2 tank filled inexpensively and with no hassle. Open 7 days a week(7 – 3 on saturday, 11 – 4 on sunday) Doug was very helpful finding fittings to set up my O2 regulator. When I mentioned I was using it in my home brewery he told me that he also has a Nitrogen/CO2 ‘beer gas’ mix available for stouts– how cool is that! Unlike the big chain gas suppliers seem unfriendly and uncooperative to customers like me who don’t have an account with them, I walked in off the street and he was happy to take care of me, and the price was so reasonable that I thought he made a mistake with the bill. I am so done with big corporate suppliers like AirGas and Keen

Its 5:30 on a Wednesday in South Philly, six guys are sitting around smoking cigs and bullshitting about how bad kids are these days and what is wrong with people who can’t raise their children, no I didn’t stop in at – insert dive bar here –, I went to South Philly Propane. I came here to get my CO2 filled for my keg: — Conveniently located(right off Washington Ave.) — Plenty of off street parking — Quick service — Cheap $ 8 for a 5lb CO2 tank — Free entertainment listening to the workers talk amongst themselves while pretending to play something on my phone.
