Oops, I did it again… I bought another dress. One I probably didn’t need but just had to have. So clearly I am spoiled. But screw it — this dress was calling my name. It was in the window of Sevilla Smith, and I was driving down 3rd Street, running errands that had to get done by a certain time. And, as usual, I was running late. But as I sat in the backed-up traffic(thanks, dudes who double park on an already narrow street) my eyes were drawn towards the window display of this new store. Because, there, right in front of me, was the dress of my dreams. You know, ladies… THE dress. The one that looks like it was made for you. Knowing I shouldn’t be shopping at that moment, I told myself I’d only stop if there was parking right out in front. And lo and behold, the car right across from the boutique pulled out, leaving me with a place to stash my car and 32 minutes left on the meter. Clearly this was meant to be. When I went inside, I was immediately greeted by a very friendly woman and the exact song I had been playing on my radio just a few seconds before. Again, meant to be. I asked breathlessly about the dress, since I didn’t see any more on the racks as I browsed their gorgeous selection of dresses, blouses and accessories. But alas, the one in the window was the last one. But she offered to take it out of the window so I could see if it was my size. My gut told me «oh crap,» since the mannequins are usually like a size 0, and I am not. But I shouldn’t have panicked. She removed it, handed it to me like the holy grail, and I practically shouted«Hallelujah!» The number on the tag was mine. And then I tried it on in their spacious dressing room(complete with a pair of black heels they keep stashed for just this reason — brilliant) and was overjoyed. It fit perfectly. Sold. I tried on a few other things too, but trying to be practical, I left with just the dress. That, a smile on my face, and a feeling of happiness that sometimes, even little, seemingly frivolous things, can make your whole day turn around. We all need that sometimes. This store is so my new closet.

With the closing of Zolita, I am hard pressed to suggest any little boutiques for shopping… and then came sevilla smith. The owner, Faye, has a tremendous eye for what works-she was a former costume supervisor for a number of Hollywood productions. She sized me up and picked out some amazing pieces that I can’t wait to wear. Nice selection of brands I was familiar with, like French Connection, with some that I hadn’t. The infant clothing was so cute that my nephew will soon be styling as well. I couldn’t believe how busy they were on opening day-I guess the masses were just as impressed as I was. The changing room, in the form of tents, was truly unique. An all around A+ shopping experience.
