If this is a great philly cheese steak, the rest must be pretty awful. Dry bread, dry meat and more bread than meat. Ack.

Wow. What can I say? Rick’s is a complete disappointment. From the bland meat to the canned mushrooms, the high price does not justify this mediocre quality. There are so many better places than this, and not too far away, either. Avoid. Note: I would give them one star, but the bread is actually really good, so they get a star for that.

I ordered a standard cheesesteak with provolone cheese. Maybe I should have gone with the cheese wiz, cause overall I just wasn’t that impressed. The meat was cooked fine, but it was a bit wimpy and didn’t have much flavor. It wasn’t as greasy as I was expecting, but when it comes to cheesesteaks, I’m not sure if that’s a good thing. It was my first time trying a cheesesteak here in Philly so I was a bit disappointed. Guess I’ll just have to keep looking!

My first PHILLYCHEESESTEAK«wid whiz.» Huge portions. Everything was freshly made, and washed it down with a birch beer. Rick’s is owned by the grandson of Pat Olivieri, the co-founder of Pat’s King of Steaks. It’s really too bad Rick’s moved outta Reading Terminal because I think that was a better location since you snag all the tourists who roll thru there. Rick’s now resides in a mall food court where it’s mostly locals, and has to compete with the likes of Chick-Fil-A.

After a long night out of drinking and waking up to a hangover… Rick’s Steak is the place to cure that hangover or even an appetite for a cheese steak. The steaks are thinly sliced and cooked to perfections with a little cheese wiz on the bread made this cheese steaks one of the best I’ve eaten in a long time.

Best cheesesteak I found in Philly during a week stay. Try the seaside fries!

In all my trips to Philadelphia, I’ve never had an authentic Philly Cheesesteak. I chose Rick’s because it was close to the hotel and I found out Rick cut his teeth at both Pat’s and his own stall in the Reading Terminal Market. Overall, I was impressed. There is a lot of food in the $ 10.75 combo, and it was very tasty. I think if I had done Cheez Wiz instead of provolone, it would have been juicier, which would have helped, but I can’t fret too much since Rick(THE Rick!) personally made my cheesesteak. I will be back.

I have worked at One Liberty Place since Sept 2008 and this is the 3rd cheese steak restaurant. First it was Jake’s, then, it was Mike’s and today, I was delightfully surprised when i went to go check out«Mike’s» to find Rick ‘s Original Cheese Steak sign over Mike’s!!! I had heard that Rick Olivieri won an award for having Vegan Cheese steaks at Citizen’s Bank Ballpark and although I love the real thing(Chicken Cheese Steak with Sharp Provolone and Broccoli Rabe and Fried Onions is my fave) I wanted to try the Vegan steaks which is made with Seitan. i got mushrooms, fried onions and sharp provolone. Sandwich was tasty. You couldn’t tell it was really a veg sandwich. I was delighted to see Rick and Crew in my work. The rolls are fresh and food not greasy. Glad Rick found a new home in Liberty Place, since he was forced to close at Reading Terminal Market. The Prince has returned…

I tried to the chicken steak with the works and thought it was quite good. Heck it was still good, eating cold the next day. The chicken was moist and plentiful. I particularly love the hot sauce. They weren’t kidding that it was hot so take care how much you put on there. I’m glad I bought two groupon for this. I can’t wait to use my other one.

I’m glad this place did a groupon, because I had no idea there was even a good cheesesteak place in center city! The location is new for them, and it’s somewhat hidden in the food court, but the food was great. It was sad to see they weren’t getting a lot of business during lunch on a thursday, most likely because outside there are no signs(except for a small sign that says gourmet food court) to direct anyone into the basement of the hotel! The steak was great, and the service was excellent too! Benefit about this place, is that there are places to sit, you can use a credit card, and you don’t have to travel all the way out to Pat’s and Geno’s to grab a steak in center city! I’m so glad I found it, it’s my new steak joint from now on!

A decent steak. The meat is sliced thin and not broken up on the griddle. Choices of cheeses are available, but I went with the Cheese Whiz with onions. The roll was a Phily slice of heaven. Crunchy on the outside, not too much though, and soft and airy on the inside. I found the portion size and amount of meat/onions/whiz adequate. The location is in a food court, but nonetheless, it was pretty good. Heading down to South Phily to do a Pat’s/Geno’s compare… Ugh! Sometimes research is tough work.(YUM!)

I guess the consensus with Rick’s is that you either love it or hate it… well, I hate it, there’s just not getting around it. Hubby and I waited in line for almost an hour just to give it a try. We tolerated rows upon rows of ignorant tourists in the greasy heat and were hoping to get some enjoyment out of it. I wasn’t even in the mood for a steak but hubby got one and I had a few bites… bleh. I can’t describe the taste other than that… bleh. Now Rick’s is moving into the Bellevue on South Broad Street and in doing so took out my favorite little lunchtime secret, the pasta place opposite the 12th st cantina. Dammit, now I can’t get my spicy sausage and pesto and the lines in the place are going to look just like the cows themselves heading to the slaughter. Fuckers.

I read about Rick’s Steaks on and the first time I went to the location I couldn’t find it because I am retard from Oklahoma and didn’t realize it was in side the Reading Terminal Market. But the second time I went with friend I found it. After waiting in line I got a Cheese Steak w/provolone. I sat down and inhaled it. Literally, I’m not sure why I eat so fast some times. Like if I sit down at a table with some friends I am always the first one finished and then I have to sit there and watch everyone else enjoy there meal and then I have to try and remember wether or not my food was any good. Its a serious issue I have to deal with daily. Anyway the Cheese Steak was terrific. The steak was full of flavor and the provolone was great to have on a Cheese Steak. I would eat here again. If you are ever in the Reading Terminal make sure you stop by.

Well, I’ve heard news that Rick’s will be closing at Reading Terminal Market. One of my memories is eating here after one of my days of serving jury duty. The cheesesteak wasn’t anything memorable to me, but there was plenty of it and I remember feeling remorse for being unable to finish something that I paid so much for(I had the steak, fries, and a soda… hey, I was cheap at the time). The seating area seemed a bit cramped to me, especially when it was crowded and busy. I do like to sit on the stools by the window so you can stare out on the street. I haven’t gone back since, especially after discovering the more healthier options at RTM. I would hope that whatever replaces Rick’s will have cheesesteaks, and better ones at that!

Rick’s popped my Philly Cheesesteak Cherry and it was a-ok. I can’t put my finger on what was missing in my mind. maybe it needed a bit more cheese? I ordered the cheesesteak sandwich with onions and wiz(a melted cheese spread). I ate the whole damn thing so it wasn’t bad, it just seemed to be a bit chewy and was missing a bit of something. I could recommend you try it, but for me the search for the perfect cheesesteak is still an unfinished quest.

Blarg! One of the worst steaks I’ve had in Philly. It was actually one of my first, thank god I didn’t give up on the cheesesteak right then and there. Can’t wait until this place is gone. Here’s a haiku summary: Tough strips of chewy, grey meat Long lines for wiz wit An overpriced tourist trap

I reek of cheesesteak right now but it was so worth it. I had to go big and get it with Whiz — as I recommend you do as well. The combo probably isn’t worth it unless you’re a huge eater. The sandwiches are so big that even though I was starving, I hardly touched my fries. Soft roll + thinly sliced steak + sauteed onions + Cheez Whiz + spicy sweet peppers = heaven. Adding fries was just unnecessary padding on my already increasing hip circumference.

Disclaimer — this was my first visit to Phillie. Rick’s Steaks converted me to cheese whiz and convinced me that cheese whiz is yummy goodness! And I normally hate cheese whiz. But I can understand why cheese whiz makes a good cheesesteak — it just works. It’s like melted cheddar cheese, but better — it’s smooth and soft, and adds to the juiciness of the sandwich. So for those skeptics who hate artificial cheese — hey, I was one of those people until I took a bite of Rick’s cheesesteak with cheese whiz. For comparison, we also had cheesesteaks with provolone(at Tony Luke’s). I think the cheese whiz makes it better and can see why it’sa classic. Oh – and it’s great to see them fry up the steaks while you wait for your order.

Because I couldn’t make it out to Pat’s/Geno’s/Jim’s, I settled for Rick’s just so I could make sure I satisfied my cheesesteak craving while I was in Philly. I got one with provolone, onions and mushrooms. The meat was ok; most of it was tender though I did have a couple bites that were a bit stringy. But the bread was terrific and the onions and mushrooms complimented the meat well. The portions are definitely large, which I suppose is their way of justifying charging customers $ 8 for a sandwich. It’s pricey but I think that’s just how it goes with these cheesesteak places. One thing to note: you can order your sandwich like an out-of-towner and not feel like a total dumbass. If you have no idea what a «wiz wit» means, no worries. Just order your sandwich like you would at any other sandwich place(e.g. «cheesesteak with provolone and onions») and you’ll be fine. Now, I’m not going to guarantee that they won’t laugh at your behind your back after you place your order. But at least you don’t have to stress out about how to order a damn sandwich.
