Stopped in for the 1st time on a monday night, caught some great tunes, late night happy hour beers and fantastic«bar» food and i say bar food very loosely. Check it out, even if there is a cover it will most likely be worth the 10 bucks to get in. p. s. they have a dart board in the back :)

Ortleibs is quite possibly my favorite bar in Philadelphia. I love everything about it — the atmosphere, the food, and of course the music. I’m a huge jazz fan, and the live music never disappoints. I haven’t been there in almost a year and I’m going through serious withdrawal. If you go for dinner, be sure to make reservations since it gets crowded. If you’re going for drinks, you may not get a seat at the bar, but there is standing room next to the bar.

The vibe here is so nice. Warm and rich. Filled with all sorts of folks from different walks of life. Live music, excellent draft beer selection and really, really good food! My friend and I had the caesar salad and the seitan quesidilla. The happy hour prices made up for the cover price for the bands we saw. The bands we saw weren’t very good, but I am a tough customer in regard to music.

I am the first to review Ortleibs? Sweet! While I still have yet to officially set foot in it for a show, I know and have interviewed a good number of bands who grew up on going to Jazz shows here. many jazz legends have set foot and played shows here on any given night. I have especially heard amazing things about the improvisational skills of Bootsie Barnes and the shows that he does here. this is by far the première place to go in Philadelphia when it comes to jazz music. it has had so much history, it’s still going on strong. And due to the many musicians that it has inspired over the years, it should be for quite awhile.
