Just what the neighborhood needed! A lovely book shop right on South Street. My favorite thing about Neighborhood Books is the organization. Often with other used book stores in Philly, you can’t find a thing but that is very much not the case here. Great selection of Fantasy, Sci Fi, and Literature. I always find something here even if I wasn’t looking for it when I started.

While small, they have a very good selection. Incredibly well organized — never a given at a used bookstore — making a trip there easy. Additionally, a very friendly staff, and well-priced. Well, well worth a visit.

I happened by Neighborhood Books on my Sunday afternoon stroll. I straddle the line with a love for the convenient technology of my kindle & a love of the smell & feel of books. Especially old books. I took a quick browse(they were close to closing time) & didn’t see anything that I need to read immediately, but then I happened to find a 1962 copy of Happiness is a Warm Puppy(see pic). I do so love all things vintage & vintage children’s books make me especially nostalgic. Something about this one reminded me of my grandparents. I love used book stores, and this is a good one! I’ll definitely be back when I have more time to browse & shop.

Small, but filled to the brim, and the collection seems to be paid attention to. Prices are decent

I stumbled across this the other day and love the place. I first noticed it because of a sign that read«Immanuel Kant, but I can… read more books!» [I’m a philosophy grad student who is very fond of puns]. I’m always on the lookout for good used book stores, and this place has a great selection and books here are in good condition and well laid out in addition to being very reasonably priced. I will definitely be coming back here.

This is definitely one of my favorite used booked stores. The have a decent size collection, but its quality. My forays into used book stores usually last me hours, which I enjoy very much, but in most cases I’m sieving through junk. Here, not so much. It’s got a good collection of classics and sci-fi. Probably horror too, but I didn’t get around to it. Other than cheating and ordering online, this is the place to go for good books and rare finds to add to your collection.

Welcome to Graduate Hospital, Neighborhood Books! This is a super cute, well laid-out, used bookstore with a lot of great titles. I picked up an international bestseller for about half off the cover price. So it’s not garage sale prices but it’s still cheaper than buying from one of the big box brand bookstores. I’ll happily fork over a five-spot or so for a newish title from a local biz. The owner said he won’t be in the position to buy books for a couple months while he’s still getting his current stock situated. No worries, I’ll just hold on to Fifty Shades a little longer.

This wonderful used book store just opened on South Street. While small, it is an exceptionally well curated collection. Unlike some used bookstores, the books are very clean and well arranged. Looking at the collection with a librarian’s eye, I can see that in terms of content, these aren’t just arbitrary discards, but books that people would actually want to read, and that kind of collection takes talent to assemble. The condition of the books is quite good, too; nothing I saw was ratty or falling apart. Yet, the prices are still totally reasonable, in some cases cheaper than I would expect given that some of the books are almost like new. I also like that there is some comfy furniture in the back where you can sit and enjoy a book. It’s one of those place I could just browse for hours, and I look forward to spending plenty of time in the future doing exactly that.
