The current exhibition of beautiful ceramic sculpture by Leora Brecher is worth a visit. This is a lovely small gallery.

Small, bare-bones gallery that’s run by a cooperative, so you never know what you might see on the walls here. I stopped in recently to see Steve Messenger’s show, and was quite impressed by the detail and personality in his portraits, especially since his subjects express themselves through the smallest shift of the eye or flick of the ear. The coop members who«gallery sit» are welcoming and helpful, and beyond that, there’s not a whole lot to say — this is a simple space that lets the art speak for itself.

I’ve only been here once but I definitely plan to return. Like Russ mentioned, the success of the gallery is based on what work is shown. Jennifer Vessells was displaying her Freedom in Orbit exhibit and I really enjoyed some of her pieces. It was a collaborative effort with Dante Bucci who played his really cool Hang Drum. The space is welcoming and cozy and I hope they feature more interesting artists with musical accompaniment.

The Rooster display sure was different. This gallery can usually be hit or miss(as is the case with all of them). But I’m generally intrigued by it’s selection. It always has artists who manage to add an interesting theme into their work. Aside from the roosters, some of the other displays I have seen here have included one that incorporated wrenches and other tools into it’s artwork, and another that placed nature scenes into locations that were very un-nature like.

Obviously, the success of a gallery is based on the quality of work which is shown. The last time I was here the collection that was presented was a selection of work by Eric N. Fausnacht. The group of paintings which were chosen were all portraits of roosters. Personally, I was disappointed in the selection, but managed to entertain myself by drowning in obvious and childish C*** jokes. The art here isn’t my favorite, but if you are in the area it doesn’t hurt to stop in. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly and could answer all of my rooster questions.
